"We're deprecating the ODBC connection as of January 1... no worries we've got a great new API and it accepts SQL!"
"To reduce system load and improve overall performance of your system we're limiting SQL requests to 100k rows"
"To enhance SLQ efficiency we've written our own proprietary query language called FU-SQL it's fantastic"
"We're aware that some of our customers are not happy with speed of FU-SQL so we've limited the number of joins you can make in a select statement to 1"
"To reduce costs for our customers we now bill our FU-SQL module separately, if you don't use it you don't have to pay for it! If you would like the unneeded additional FU-SQL feature it will bill for $150k/year"
"due to lack of interest FU-SQL has been discontinued, if you need mass access to your data please contact our professional service"

At this point they start doubling the price of their service every time you sign a new contract. Then your boss will ask you why your quote for migrating the network somewhere else was "A Metric Shitton of money"

Have fun with your outsourced network!

Cars are so fly by wire now it becomes difficult to do things like a burnout. You can argue the need for such a thing but some people do value it. Basically the only reason there's a button to turn off your traction control is because some people wouldn't buy the car because they couldn't do a burnout. Then, once they've disabled it and have done the burnout they are now driving around without traction control on. Solution? A button that controls the burnout, does it better than the human ever could, and then automatically re-activates safety systems. Maybe they can even keep control of the car, detect if somethings gone wrong and fail out of the burnout.

Then think about this from the point of view of evangelical Christians. Do you think this action will do anything to change anyones mind? This plays right into what you would consider the Evangelical Christians paranoid delusion. They truly think there is a Satan, and that Satan has tricked the majority of people into denying God. And now, the Church of Satan is attacking them on an issue we'd really like them to change their mind about. This might force some bullshit legal decision that will force the monuments down, but the one thing it will not do is change anyones mind or make the kind of social progress we really need. The church of Satan IS atheist.

The Church of Satan does not "worship" or believe in Satan, nor do they believe in gods. LaVeyan Satanism follows the belief that one's self is their own "God". They do not believe in suppression of desire and human nature. In an interview with David Shankbone, High Priest Peter Gilmore stated "My real feeling is that anybody who believes in supernatural entities on some level is insane. Whether they believe in the Devil or God, they are abdicating reason". Gilmore defines the word "Satan": "Satan is a model or a mode of behavior. Satan in Hebrew means 'adversary' or 'opposer'; one who questions."
Gilmore went on to add "Satanism begins with atheism. We begin with the universe and say, 'It’s indifferent. There’s no God, there’s no Devil. No one cares!'"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Satan#Beliefs

Though any Christian with any understanding of the bible would say that all those who do not accept Jesus are either being deceived by or worshiping Satan.

You can certainly do it on modern systems. LOTS of systems are written this way. You write your OS to media that can't be changed after the fact (DVD) and boot from that. No changes to the os can happen without re-burning it. That's how my hardware firewall is setup. It stores logs and such to the hard drive but the entire OS and all config files are stored on a DVD. There's no hacking that and making a permanent change.

The wright ability of modern OS's is definitely a "Feature" and very important, but it does come at a cost to security. But then again, if I had my firewall on a regular hard drive, it could update itself automatically and protect against 0-days before I even had heard about them. It's all a series of tradeoffs.
