Not sure how many people here have used Lenovo phones, because I dont think any US carriers have them... But I had one on a BYOP deal for a while and it was a great phone. There seem to be very limitted choices for more rugged phones and the Lenovo I had was pretty much water proof, shock proof, and I got it for $200.
Back when I had a blackberry it was similarly rugged, though not waterproof. I could see this being a good thing. I could see a market for a Blackberry shaped android phone, that was tough and maybe came with some phone management enterprise software. Most of the enterprise software I've used from Android has been terrible.
Actually, I think you've hit the nail on the head. If calorie requirements were such a problem, they'd be actively seeking people who are intersex: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I...
But, I suspect they are NOT a problem. One could easily fit enough food to last for years in a small enough space that the tradeoffs for picking a person based on the many other attributes that would be far more valuable than the limited space that food would take up.
Now if you want to feed that person fresh vegetables the whole way... ok... this might be a problem. But I think a balanced diet would be the least of their health concerns on this trip.
This is going to be great. I can't think of a single reply to this I could make that wouldn't start an immediate flame war other than the one I'm making, and that's only because it's totally off topic. And I think there's still a 50/50 chance it'll happen.
The problem is, what is prior art? It's highly subjective and as such, the law is complicated.
There is no reforming the current system. We need an entirely new system. As is, an inventor has basically no change to win. If he invents something, lawyers find a way to subtly change it to produce it without permission. Likewise, if they have something patented they again get lawyers to find a way to change it and extend that patent into perpetuity.
Patents should be rare. Almost everything should be covered by short term copyright and trade secrets. Patents should only cover truly new and innovative tech. Smartphones are battery powered computers... there shouldn't be anything in them that's patentable. A new form of Fusion reactor? Ok... that's patent. I'd even propose that someone applying for a patent should have to get a court to approve the patent before it being granted.
Can somebody explain why the links I have included have been modified? Not fair from/. to remove links and direct the traffic to already big outlets. Slashdot is also about diversity and supporting smaller publications, from what I remember.
Are you new to submitting? I've had a bunch make it to the front page... the mods Heavily modify your submission. To the point that, you might as well not even bother spending time typing it up nicely. I got concerned when they not only corrected things but wrote their own diatribes into the submission, made their own mistakes and such, and then attributed the post to me. So I don't submit nearly as much anymore.
If you're going to quote me with "Charliemopps writes" then it should be cut&paste. If you're altering it, Slashdot needs a different statement like "Submitted by..." etc...
Yes to the right to be forgotten. But do it right.
Currently the search engines must remove the link to the article, but the article stays. This is bullshit. If the article contains something to be forgotten it should be removed or redacted. This is the only correct way to do it. Also, there should be an open procedure, with appeals, to decide if the article must be redacted / deleted.

and who the hell is going to pay for all that?
The entire premise of this idea is ludicrous. You cannot erase the past. All that dumb shit you did when you were 22 was done and you have to live with it.
So 3 companies, all of whom make electronics that consist of about 99% hype and about 1% tech, sue each other?
What's funny is Bose has been at this a very long time. Don't buy Bose people! It's a scam, it's always been a scam. There are plenty of good stereos and speakers out there, Bose doesn't make any of them. And beats? That's literally the cheapest Chinese headphones they could find this month and they slap a Dr Dre sticker on it.
It looks interesting, but why in the world are they piloted mechs? Remote control them with a simulated cockpit so you don't have to make a bunch of convoluted rules so no one is injured. If things take off and the tech improves you can also ramp things up from a simple paintball game type setup to bots that can actually inflict damage.
Because the mechs will likely be more valuable than the pilots. What better way to get them to be gentle than to stick them in the damned mech itself.
Watch The Discovery Channel/History channel, CNN, MSNBC or Fox News for about 8hrs strait... While doing so, pretend you hadn't graduated high-school and need something other than your own failures in life to blame for your continuous and unabated fear of your unstable future.
Then it will all make sense. You'll also either start calling the president Obola or chanting "Bush lied, people died"
let me guess... the car doesn't run if you unplug the radio?
I cant stand the way they integrate radios so far into a car now that you have no option to replace it should you want to. I don't care how good this system is, many people who buy the car wont want it. I should be able to swap it out for anything I want. When I replaced my fords "Microsoft Sync" radio a while back it killed my entire dash. I had to spend $200 on a translation computer to replace the bit of the radio that controlled the dash.
Seriously, there's already an industry standard for car radios, screens, audio data, remote control, everything. Do us all a favor and follow industry standard.
In short, the officials say, while the N.S.A. cannot spy on Airbus and give the results to Boeing, it is free to spy on European or Asian trade negotiators and use the results to help American trade officials — and, by extension, the American industries and workers they are trying to bolster.
lol, you modded me down and then replied anon? You truly are a coward aren't you?
http://www.reuters.com/article... Even cowards can use Google. We are steeling trade secrets and giving them to corporations friendly to the US government. We're doing exactly the same thing China is doing, just on a much much larger scale.
Not sure how that's going to promote demand for goods and services. It looks to me like a recipe for rewarding not-spending. And not-spending is exactly what's sucking the liquidity out of the economy now, locking it up in the vaults of the wealthy, who refuse to spend at all unless it means that they wind up with ever more in their vaults, and construction of the (was this term ever more apt?) vicious cycle is complete.
Wait... so you oppose a tax system that rewards saving, planning for the future and long term financial security? The problem with the economy is not that people aren't spending enough... The problem is that people spent the money they are making today, about 15yrs ago... and today they are spending the money they'll make 20yrs from now. They pay a very high fee for the privilege to spend money they do not have. Those fees go to useless money managers that add nothing to society.
Tax spending Reward saving
Wealth locked up in vaults? That's fine, it doesn't hurt anyone. Money that's not in circulation is a good thing. Demand is what drives the price of things up. Money that's been saved will not create demand until it's taken out of savings.
Next up, after negative user response, ChromeOS to publish full source code and become free user-respecting software.
ChromeOS tends to ship on Tivoized hardware, which isn't exactly Gnu-Freedom; but, in terms of the software on top of the bootloader, what are the deficiencies? I know it ships a proprietary Flash, and whatever bullshit makes Netflix work; but is there anything else?
I'd like to hear this to. Googles been generally friendly to my FOSS concerns. Perfect? No... but we really are a tiny minority. I appreciate that they understand what we're about and are making an effort. If all you ever do when these companies offer things like this is get pissed and scream "NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!" they will eventually stop trying in the first place.
Well, apparently under this President it's gotten to the point where they've have to have a formal work-around. Perhaps partisans will jump in and say that under Bush a report was delayed for an hour because of an emergency, or some other lame precedent that will allow them to claim that "everybody does it," when no, everybody doesn't do it.
No, everyone did do it. Print Journalists just finally fixed it. Then partisans on the republican side made a big fuss about it.
To argue that Democrats are "more" evil than Republicans is laughable. They're the same party as far as any rational person is concerned.
This disease can spread from surface contact with contaminated fluids (which Ebola victims tend to leak profusely). Indoors, even dried fluids can remain infectious for hours. All it takes is to touch the fluids and then touch your eyes or mouth (which you do all the time) Something like the NYC subway provides very good conditions for spread, once the first sick people take a few trips
Stop spreading FUD. You cannot get it that way. Saliva does not count. You need to ingest Blood/Vomit to catch it. By the time they are sick enough to be leaking that stuff, they would be in the hospital in this country.
In Africa they are much more used to going about their day while deathly ill. That's the problem. The only people truly at risk in this country are Healthcare workers.

You and those that modded you up didn't even read the summary did you?
Data is the sword of the 21st century, those who wield it well, the Samurai.
So, data is a weapon used against us?
And those that wield it are our new feudal lords?
At least we know how Googles Senior management really feels about things.

This is what they flat out admit:

China admits nothing and we have no proof that the hackers have anything to do with the Chinese government.
