i and others thought the same thing, but someone pointed out on macslash that that job has been available for a few weeks now. still, a funny coincidence...
yeah, as i said in a post in the jaguar story, it has a 2001: space odissey, cold and industrial feel to it... however, i'd love to see one up close. my opinion might change...
sun can blame the dot com bust on their problems, but it goes deeper than that. they have severe management issues that have to be dealt with that are more worrisome than the bust...
yeah i'm bummed they aren't doing it again this year. i enjoyed watching jobs announce the lcd imac last year.

...they are using this to get a major corporate backer for windows media 9. i'm imagining they are going to try slowing pressuring the studios into using the wmp9 format in consumer electronics with the guarantee to them that their format is harder to break than the dvd encryption...
definitely. my girlfriend digs that game. first we played gauntlet on our cube together, and she excelled way past me. then baldurs gate. i was really surprised she digs those games as much as she does... it is too bad there's no 2p zelda like game. though they'd have to change things a lot i suppose, it would still kick ass...
it should be called 'Galapogos'. it makes sense because it was derived from darwin (evolved from darwin?) and has plenty of neato animals that could be used for a mascot. plus it has an interesting sounding name... (hopefully nobody else is using the name for a project or competing company/trademark)
the psp will look like a brick on its side, be about half as heavy, have 2 hours of gameplay and will fail within 3 years of its release. it will of course have some interesting titles that will have come out for it that will be sorely missed, a few of which will have been rereleased on another system later on with cleaned up graphics and sound. there will be a few attachments for it that will be a first for a handheld, but will be too expensive and released in too few numbers a few months before its demise.
the n-gage will have lasted half as long, and had some intriguing titles, but will ultimately fail as well, due mostly to nokia's inability to attract developers and lack of marketing ability.
nintendo will release a series of 3d games in the meantime with a newer version of their fx chip that was seen on the snes that will keep the 3d gamers happy. later, they will release a newer handheld with an even more powerful version of that chip that focuses on performance and battery life, maintaing their hold on portable gaming for years to come.
heheh, there's my prediction. of course, it could go many different directions.:P
the only reason why the gp32 makers encourage homebrewing is because there aren't any significant developers making games for the platform. game systems are successful when developers embrace it. gp32 isn't that system. it is a neat device for sure, but i'm sad to say, it is destined to end up in the annals of interesting failed products...
no, you're wrong. if you want to 'blame' someone, it should be apogee, the publisher for such titles as id's. your 'true sense' is essentially what open source software is today (sometimes sans the source). contrary to your idea that the shareware industry died off, it was boosted greatly by the likes of apogee and epicmegagames and don't forget pkzip, winzip and paintshop pro.
if anything killed shareware, it was the internet. before the internet was available for everyone to use, you had a limited supply of programs available to you from bbs's and services like compuserve as well as the mailorder shareware catalogs. nowadays there is such a huge flood of programs that all do about the same thing that there is little incentive for a programmer to write something unless they are going to make it better than everyone elses, and then charge a few bucks for it (or makes it essentially barebones and makes it freeware)... otherwise it gets lost in the fray of similar titles.
yeah but doesn't oreilly offer an upgrade thing where you can send them the old book and upgrade to a newer one for about the difference (or something like that)? i remember the deal, but i remember them offering something like that...
though i'm more interested in seeing who is going to be first to utilize the progate technology talked about in this article (which is geared more for licensed developers), i'm also interested in seeing how the homebrew community plans on getting any meaningful code on the cube. from what i can tell, you can't upload that much to it (it's gotta fit in 48M of RAM and has no HD for now) and using this hack, i'm not so sure you are going to get much on there. add to that the fact that you can't burn your own cube disc, i think there are are a lot more hurdles ahead. oh and for those interested or worried about cube warezing, i don't think you are going to find copies of cube games around, and if it were to happen, there is still no such thing as a powerpc emulator yet. the only way you could possibly play any pirated game would be on a mac, if it is even possible... like i said, there are a lot of hurdles left to go. which is afterall, the whole point. make it too expensive and time consuming for folks to pirate...
aside from this thing looking like a bronzed kidney with buttons, i think nokia needs to wiseup to the market... i'm not sure that even sony has got what it takes to enter the market in a meaningful way. we'll see. way to alienate consumers nokia.
I am surprised people above think of Tom Waits as jazz - i think of him as more blues/rock."
I agree wholeheartedly... Waits does have some jazzy stuff, but I would hardly consider it jazz. Not to take anything away from his work though, as he is my 2nd favorite singer/songwriter.

for those folks who bought g stuff from companies like linksys who haven't made any promises on upgrading their g stuff (dunno about d-link tho), you shoulda bought a buffalo card like this one, or the earlier model.;) buffalo has a tech guarantee stating they will upgrade or replace their g equipment to meet the ratified standard when it becomes available, at no cost to you. a few days ago they released their wpa update. i would expect them to have their ratified firmware updated soon as well.
correct me if i'm wrong here... i think the '4gig barrier' they are talking about is that 32bit chips can't address more than 4gigs of memory.
value? what is the value in a system that you have to replace in two years?

now we are going to hear another wave of uninformed folks complaining about the supposed speed limitation of 24Mbps... heheh
:)
from the same site: also, here's his announcement on 802.11g's ratification today. anyway, great news.
