    Up to a point, presently Europe is being driven into a situation where a future civil war with ethnic cleansing on a scale unknown in history is on our doorstep (regardless of who wins). Giving migrants more aid and convincing more people to try their luck in Europe is a dangerous game, easy to play for American liberals though who at worst have a bunch of Catholics with a few drug problems on their doorstep.

    Google should spend that money in Africa and the Middle East.

    Any diagnostic port will always have write level access to the network, since it has to be able to do things like ECU updates as well. Whether it's ODBC-II or some GOANIE (Good Old American, Not Ickey European) debug port with a different network protocol matters bugger all.

  12. Libertarians don't recognize the concept of the commons (except geo-libertarians, but those are about as much libertarian as anarcho-capitalists are anarchists).

    Only people who own land (and the airspace above it) affected by pollution have right to compensation for that pollution from a libertarian perspective. Anyone who doesn't own affected land and without a contractual right to clean air can choke to death on the pollution without it being an issue.

    Old European city cores are god awful for car traffic, limiting traffic to the core to ambulances and supply trucks (usually during very early morning) is common for a lot of busier shopping streets or in some cases entire city cores. It's simply a huge economic gain for the area, better shopping, better tourism and yes ... more pleasant living for the rich folk who can afford it. Regardless of car access working class people can't live in London city center.

    We're still using C, we're still using ACLs, we now have so many rings below 0 on PCs we don't even use using negative numbers when talking about them any more and they've mostly only allowed rootkits to bury deeper, almost all companies allow people to access the web with the same OS instance they use to work on the internal LAN with.

    There are no easy fixes for the situation we're in.

    None of those studies had any statistically significant real accident rate numbers for hands free calling ... the simulation measured metrics during conversation (which is not the critical point of cellphone use in a car) and the questionnaire stuff is all from pre-2005, so they'll have what ... 2 hands free callers in there?

    Smoking takes very little cognition ... why does it cause accidents? Because when something burning at high temperature falls into your crotch you start paying attention, it's the edge cases which get you. For cellphone use simulation you need to include call establishment in the equation or you might as well not bother.

    No accident has ever happened because someone dropped his (non headset) handsfree kit ...

    Most of these kind of studies are pretty much bullshit ... they tend to try to measure something easy with a correlation with accidents for a given situation and then pretend the correlation will hold come hell or high water.

    If they had to actually put people in sims for 1000s of hours for each paper they couldn't publish a lot of papers of course.
