What is clear is that Microsoft introduced SCO to Baystar, and also introduced Baystar to SCO. There is no evidence that Microsoft actually put their own money into SCO.
If you really want to know, go to Groklaw.net and do searches yourself.
Look at the dollar axis on that graph. If you arrange the dollar axis so that dollars are evenly spaced, SCO is almost back to where they were. Not "still have quite a bit to dip". Yes, some to dip, but not all that much really.
If the three application limit is really a positive feature that helps keep users organized and reduce confusion, then why isn't microsoft adding this great feature to XP Home and XP Professional? Home and Professional users could use features to help them stay organized and reduce confusion.
Maybe the issue is that people who are likely (i.e. dumb enough) to buy XP Lite really are more likely to become confused.
At least this should bring in the FBI. Death threats crossing state lines has to qualify as an FBI/Justice Department investigation. Perhaps even the State Department if the email was really sent from a Nigerian server.
I think you have some serious and fundamental misunderstandings of the various departments and their functions.
The CIA: these are the spys. They gather information on terrorist threats outside of the country. Examples would include things outside our borders that threaten the profits of American corporations.
The FBI: they investigate crimes within the US that threaten the profits of American corporations. Examples would include arresting Russian software developers who give speeches that embarass American corporations.
The Secret Service: they raid and destroy game developers, go after counterfiters (again, profits) and protect the president (so he can protect the profits).
The Nigerian death threats do not fall within the above described charters. At present, these spams are not affecting the profits of American corporations, and thus not on anybody's radar.
I had my crisis of faith in the 30's. But did not have a coincidental midlife crisis. Now my faith is genuine in a way it was not back in, say, the 20's. I did not state enough about it in a brief paragraph for you to assume it is childlike.
As for toys, I'm talking about toys that are perceived associated with hormone driven twentysomethings. Not necessarily actual toys you wanted.
Toys: the point is that one undergoing the midlife crisis must have toys that a 20 year old wants, more out of hormones than common sense. Not just any car will do, it must be this certian kind. Not just any video card, or even 3D card will do, etc.
Change the world: the killer software library I mention is a specific example of "change the world". I probably should have expressed the general. Again, in the toys, I expressed specifics rather then being general. Hardware, Software or even things unrelated to computers can be the focus of ones dream to change the world.
Perhaps this is another item to list. The realization that you are not going to change the world is part of the crisis.
Sex: I agree with your remarks. The quality is much better, but you still tend to want the frequency. Depending upon situation, at age 40 you probably have one partner with which you are familiar (and is familiar with you) rather than constantly partner shopping. You therefore learn what works best with this other person.
Can that be right? 23:56 for an Earth day? Where are the extra 4 minutes? That's two hours a month of slippage--that can't be right.
That is right.
Four minutes per day. Times 365 days. That's 1460 minutes, or 24.33333 hours. Wow, that's a whole day of slippage every four years!
That that can be corrected by introducing the patented Leap Year (tm)!
Actually, 23:56 for an earth day is not correct. The exact figure goes down to the milliseconds. But it accumulates to an error of 1 day every 4 years. Then every century, on the 00 year, we DON'T have a leap year. (So years like 1700, 1800, 1900, etc. are NOT leap years, even though 1904 is a leap year.)
But then, every fourth century the error accumulates in the other direction so that we are off by another day again! So every fourth century we DO have a leap year. That is why years such as 1200, 1600, 2000, 2400 ARE leap years.
There is still an error, but it is now something like 3 seconds every 400 years. So that is a pretty darn accurate calendar.
If you add this up, then after about half a million years, the calendar will be off by six months. Then it will be a cold day in July. (i.e. snowing, winter, etc.)
Mid life crisis is exactly the right term. Please look at the following template, and see if it fits Microsoft.
When a man reaches 40 or thereabouts, they suddenly realize their mortality. They suddenly realize that all those dreams they had and plans they made in their twenties are not going to happen. They aren't going to be able to build all of the software libraries they were imagining even in their early thirties. Furthermore, they find that the number of times per week that they have sex is less than the timer per DAY when they were ninteen.
Usually, this results in: the sudden need for a boyfriend/girlfriend that is half their age. The kind of toys that they wanted at age 20 (usually a certian kind of mp3 player, 3D graphics card, or sportscar). I remember a dear friend describing the waitress he was dating, and one of the plus points was "well, she's at least almost half my age!".
Different people have different views on what follows. I'll express my own view. This is highly personal. And not all people agree. I perceive that part of the issue is whether you have your eyes focused on this life or the next one. Since my real hope lies in what is to come, and not is what is present, I have not had, and don't expect to have a midlife crisis. Someone said something like: "where your stock options are, there your heart will be also.". Although I don't want to hasten the event, I'm ready to go, and frequently think about it.
Back to the subject. So does this sudden middle age realization of ones own mortality seem to fit Microsoft? In other words, they might have as many years still ahead, as they have behind them, but suddenly, there is the realization.
The internet will replace your telephone, television, electricity, water, gas, and sewer. Rather, everything will come and go to and from your house through a single "big pipe"

Wouldn't it be a much more efficient use of tax dollars to create a Federal PLEASE SPAM ME registration list?
Similarly, why not an opt-in telemarketing list? This would seem to be much more efficient, as few people would want to register to receive either spam or telemarketing.
MUTE File Sharing is an anonymous, decentralized search-and-download file sharing system. Several people have described MUTE as the "third generation file sharing network" (From Napster to Gnutella to MUTE, with each generation getting less centralized and more anonymous). MUTE uses algorithms inspired by ant behavior to route all messages, include file transfers, through a mesh network of neighbor connections.
One key concept seems to be that all nodes are assigned a virtual address. Files are then sent from node A to node B. Packets from A to B are routed through the virtual network. But A and B's actual IP addresses are not known to any other nodes in the network, and thus not to any RIAA nodes.

Only use a Genuine(tm) Microsoft(R) operating system.
A Genuine Microsoft product gives you the assurance of getting the kind of quality, compatibility, interoperability, reliability, security and stability that you have come to expect from Microsoft products.
If you free software/open source evangelists want to really stick it to MS like you say you do then you had best start providing packages that are richer and ESPECIALLY easier than the MS ones.
How about just "rich enough", "easy enough", and cheaper. Examples: Mozilla. OpenOffice.org. See TheOpenCD.org.
I'm also perplexed at how many people on slashdot worship open source/free software but hate outsourcing... when you do work and generate value then give it away for free how can you turn around and argue that your time is worth more $$$ than some indian developer?
1. You create something of value.
2. Then give it away as a gift.
How does this somehow make your time of less value? You just assert this without backing it up. But in item (1) the something that was created was of value? So how does (2) take the value away? You make a connection that does not exist. Outsourcing is one thing. Creating gifts of software is another thing. The two are not related.
So if someone spends their valuable time creating a work of art, a musical composition, or a software application, and then gives it away, it suddenly means their time has no value.
People don't like outsourcing because they have jobs and a life. Working on open source software is just something people like to do on their own. What is your problem with that?

Why do you need Windows compatibility?
Just imagine. You are a Linux user. How else do you expect to run the Windows version of OpenOffice.org without Wine?
Think of all the great open source software on Windows. Software you want to run. Mozilla. The GIMP. Inkscape.
What the hell is pre-emptive in this case.. it does something before you tell it to?
How about a pre-emptive DRM that works in real time? It pre-empts you from doing something before you do it.
