"The Galactic Confederacy's civilization was comparable to our own, with aliens "walking around in clothes which looked very remarkably like the clothes they wear this very minute" and using cars, trains and boats looking exactly the same as those "circa 1950, 1960" on Earth. Xenu was about to be deposed from power, so he devised a plot to eliminate the excess population from his dominions. With the assistance of "renegades", he defeated the populace and the "Loyal Officers", a force for good that was opposed to Xenu. Then, with the assistance of psychiatrists, he summoned billions[1] of his citizens together to paralyze them with injections of alcohol and glycol, under the pretense that they were being called for "income tax inspections". The kidnapped populace was loaded into spacecraft for transport to the site of extermination, the planet of Teegeeack (Earth). The spacecraft were identical to the Douglas DC-8 with the exception of having different engines."

The "origins" story of Scientology is total bunk that sounds like bad sci-fi written by a sleep-deprived crackhead. You can't even spin this as a parable like with Biblical accounts, etc. It's just plain trash that doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

"Corn prices are sky-high on speculation so the livestock end of agriculture has to feed their cattle, pigs, etc. other expensive grains."

But imagine if we could start making ethanol out of the corn stalks. Or grass clippings. Or wood shavings. Or most other forms of organic leftovers. Cellulose is the key: normally it just gets thrown out, but if we can reliably use it as an ethanol source then we don't have to use more edible biomasses.

"And, of course, the icing on the cake: we're already making deals to import ethanol from other countries so that we're still relying on foreign countries for our energy needs!"

Because everyone else has already figured out how to do ethanol better: sugar cane is the ingredient of choice, producing about a third more ethanol per unit mass. The future of ethanol in the US depends on getting away from corn.

The faster we switch ethanol production over to cellulose, the better. It would mean that we're not cannibalizing our food supply to make it, and the cost wouldn't be tied to the rising price of corn.

Making our ethanol out of the leftover waste materials is probably the only way ethanol will ever take off in this country.

If you're thinking about a single car, then yes; it is "piss weak". But you're losing sight of the big picture here. According to 2004 estimates by the US Bureau of Transit, there are almost 250 million motor vehicles in the US, over 200 million of which are cars, pickup trucks, and SUV's (passenger vehicles). Imagine the possibilities if even the merest fraction of that was tapped into.

It's because of the MGS series of games that I will never, ever, buy a Sony game console. The game should be released on the PC at the same time as the console. The only reason it isn't is because Sony wants to sell more consoles. This is complete bullshit and they might as well be giving the PC gamers the finger. Fuck that. The sad thing is there are some games on the PS2/3 that I really would like to play. They chose this route, and I'm stubborn enough to sacrifice some of my own fun because of it. I wonder how many other people feel the same way?

This argument can be made for a LOT of games, not just the Halo series. Bawwwwwww a little more and maybe they'll listen.

    Look at it this way:
-The 360 is getting the killer app everyone's been waiting for (Halo 3) in a week.
-The Wii is getting the killer app everyone's been waiting for (Brawl) in Early December.
-The PS3 is getting the killer app everyone's been waiting for (MGS 4) AFTER Christmas.

    Also, as was just announced:
-The Rumbling SIXAXIS everyone has been talking about won't be making it's US debut until the spring.
-PlayStation Home has likewise been pushed off until the spring.

In other words, the PS3 really doesn't anything that it didn't have this time last year (except for some extra hard drive space). So, the conventional thinking goes that Sony is going to have to do something to spur interest and open up to a new slice of the market, because everyone who wanted the console as it sits has probably already bought the thing.

I personally didn't think that they would make a price drop, since they're practically losing their shirt on each of the consoles already, but there was definitely room to think that they could have.

And it leaves anyone who really does want it out in the cold for being an early adopter. Suppose Ford made a brand new car and didn't include extra airbags, even though a large chunk of the user base wanted them and they were pretty much standard in most models of cars for years beforehand, because Ford said the car was safe enough to ride in already. What would you say if for next year's model, they suddenly added the airbags and went around touting those airbags as a key feature of the car?
