I've been using ebooks at work and pleasure for about a year and a half. The only thing that held me back was having a good portable reader. My Handspring visor just wasn't quite good enough, but my Palm T3 is excellent. The LCD is easy to read, and it can read or convert any format I've come across. The ebooks for sale are still way overpriced, but the Gutenberg Project and Usenet have pretty much anything you could want.

You evidently didn't do much research on emissions. Current US diesel contains high ammounts of sulfur. With all the sulfur, emissions devices like catalytic converters can't be used. The EPA has regulated 2006 as being the date by which 97% of sulfur is to be removed and all manufacturers to have emissions devices on their new vehicles.
After 2006 a new diesel might be a good choice, but not now.

The only reason people think Harleys are any good is because that's what they've been told. With a Harley, you're paying for an underperforming, overpriced name that only means something to nonbikers. Go to any AMA motorcycle group and you'll see that real bikers overwhelmingly prefer Japanese and European bikes to Harleys.

All I had to do to get my burner working was install the burner. For my GeForce4 4200 I had to install the card and run the nVidia executable which built and installed it's module. Then I made a one line change in XF86Config to use the nv driver.

I can't say much about scanners, but webcams are tricky.

I've had problems in windows getting CD burning to work. If I install the manufacturer's drivers, windows loses the drive completely. Poor and partial support is why I stopped using windows to burn. That and I couldn't do anything else with my machine while it was burning.

There are still a lot of devices that need better and more simple support in Linux.
