I'm having a really hard time working up any sympathy for those afflicted by this. I'm trying but in the great scheme of things, it seems like something I really don't need to give a crap about. Maybe someone should call a Whaaaahmbulance.
Wow, I'd love to see the statistics that back that up. My personal experience says that GenX, Boomers, Millennials and everyone else only get clueful about backups after they've lost data. And sometimes not even then.
Dr. Seuss: “Oh, the jobs people work at! Out west near Hawtch-Hawtch there's a Hawtch-Hawtcher bee watcher, his job is to watch. Is to keep both his eyes on the lazy town bee, a bee that is watched will work harder you see. So he watched and he watched, but in spite of his watch that bee didn't work any harder not mawtch. So then somebody said "Our old bee-watching man just isn't bee watching as hard as he can, he ought to be watched by another Hawtch-Hawtcher! The thing that we need is a bee-watcher-watcher!". Well, the bee-watcher-watcher watched the bee-watcher. He didn't watch well so another Hawtch-Hawtcher had to come in as a watch-watcher-watcher! And now all the Hawtchers who live in Hawtch-Hawtch are watching on watch watcher watchering watch, watch watching the watcher who's watching that bee. You're not a Hawtch-Watcher you're lucky you see!”
There are OS projects that are not clones of existing systems, but they never gain any traction because the applications are just not there. The whole point of ReactOS is to come up with something that will allow the use of a big chunk of existing applications.
The only chance of getting a new OS off the ground is to start it on a new type of platform, and even that is dicey at best. WebOS hasn't exactly taken off.
I think the article was written by someone who has never used an Android phone and couldn't be bothered to take the time to verify the nonsense that they were passing on.
Sad. Not only that, but it's likely that more Americans can name the Steelers offensive line than will ever even hear the name Wernher Von Braun. You see, our stupidity knows no borders.
People keep saying this kind of thing. I remember predictions of the failure of the ipod too. And Ken Olsen from DEC said in 1977 "there is no reason for any individual to have a computer at his home."
Smart companies are going to dig into this kind of r&d to help meet the needs that we can't predict from where we are. If all a company does is make things that are obviously necessary or immediate successes, then we don't really make much progress.
I tried setting up a brand new ipod touch last night. The apple store REQUIRES a credit card for new itunes store accounts. You can delete the card information after the setup is complete, but in order to access the store you HAVE to enter Visa/MC/Amex or Paypal creds.
I suppose that's true if they were observable or more importantly if they were being searched for. But if nobody was looking for them they could have been missed.
Could it be that there are local variations in time during the original solar flare observations rather than fluctuations in the actual decay rate, and that it is not related to neutrinos from the flare but from some other gravitational changes coupled with flares?
I know, my ignorance is showing. Sorry. IANASH (I am not a stephen hawking)
... we simply cannot have a never ending list of planets to include in our definition of the solar system.
Sure we can. We just need to use the appropriate data structure to store the list.

This may be the best half-hour you spend today
Only if the other 23.5 hours were spent getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick. What a load of crap.

This is my new favorite non-funny comment.
They were not entirely successful.

"Take a relaxing trip to Terra 3! ..."
That's Sol 3.

but not flooding.
Is that intercal in a sig?
That's awesome. Shouldn't it end with PLEASE GIVE UP?
'cept for that pesky 32mb partition size limit.

Yes, but you see: ours goes to eleven.
Or digging further:
# Push access to packages in the Fedora SCM.
# Ability to perform builds and make updates to Fedora packages.
Which I would qualify as high-value.
And besides all that, it sure seems like a fun thing to do!
That's amazing! I've got the same combination on my luggage!

Caveat emptor. For everything, from anywhere.
If you're depending on reviews from a single source to save you from risk, you deserve everything you get.
Make sure the return policy fits your needs before you buy or just don't buy.

Yet.
And furthermore, this would be an excellent conversation to have with beer.

What else would one look for?
