Be sure to avoid any of the HP i7 processor models. They have a major motherboard problem, as I have luckily learned myself by buying one. Check some googling with HP i7 crash freeze, etc. Or go here to see gobs of users with problems:
However, I hear that home made PCs on i7 platforms are fine as well as recent Dells. I'm going the Asus motherboard route to rectify my problem. It's just grand though b/c they are way expensive, then I need a new case (b/c HP uses the lefty cases), and I need a new heat sync/fan (b/c HP is proprietary). So to fix my $1200 HP, I have to spend 5 or 6 hundred. WEEEE!
From a user perspective, this sounds like a good move. Stability problems in Firefox always seems to stem from add-ons or extensions. Lock that crap down, and make the devs code the right way.
To nitpick, we are animals. There's no doubt about it. So, controlling our behavior "better than other animals" might be a more reasonable statement. Along those lines, I've definitely taught my cat (to a degree) to stop scratching me when he wants something... being a nice kitty works better... yet he has not become more human in doing so. Or has he, at least in my perception? =]
I had a different TV to school ratio, but with good results in school. I watched TV like mad growing up, did homework last minute (though I almost always did it at least before college), procrastinated a lot, and never studied more than the night before/day of for tests. Was a straight A student in high school, did very well in college, etc. Not to say my parents didn't care about school, but it felt like it was 95% me and 5% parents. They never restricted TV or had a "time to do homework" or whatnot. But I was motivated to do so.
It'd be interesting to see what other factors the increased memory changed. I wouldn't be surprised to see a heightened sense of nervousness, more OCD, and bad hygiene.
I couldnt have said this better. It always make me think of the story I heard about planes and inconsistencies in the stick. In on model push forward on the stick made the plane go "down" like all(?) do today, but there were some that reversed that and it went "up". Causing some major trouble for some pilots.
You know, everybody has been driving cars with a minimum of a brake and accelerator pedal for years. I'm sure it's not the theoretical best. Why don't we just go change it around. How about we just give you one petal, and we'll allow some program to guess what you want to do with that one pedal. Yeah? Sound good? You are going 50 miles an hour, the light turned yellow... quick press the UNIpedal! Darn, this time it noticed my volume on the radio was too low and it turned it up for me instead of stopping the car.
the Japanese have relatively recently become obsessed with learning how to smile to live up to the Western culture standard. In the show I watched, Japanese businessmen had learned to never smile or show much emotion... supposedly doing so was considered weak or feminine or something. They said it probably had roots in some of the kendo training/battles, where showing emotion could give away too much info to your opponent.
Also I think it's fairly standard consensus that Japanese tend to hide their emotions/opinions to themselves away from close family/friends for politeness sake. So before that meant even hiding smiles(?), but now means they need to smile more!?!?
Yeah, those thoughts were the first that came to mind. Sleep is a big deal for so many proven reasons and so many slightly understood reasons. But I guess one reason we'd sleep for so long would be to conserve energy in a more natural environment with limited food.
My wife's immune system seems to be ridiculously strong, but maybe it's partly due to the fact that she always gets plenty of sleep and if she starts feeling slightly sick she sleeps an extra couple of hours that night/day.
Regarding the vulnerable state of sleep aspect, I've often wondered if snoring kept some of the nasty animals away at night. Then again, even my cat snores sometimes and cats probably could hear a hair fall. And back to humans, I always wondered if the early risers helped protect the late sleepers, and late the bed types helped protect the ones that slept early.
Sorry man, I just can't give any credit so someone claiming World of Warcraft can be the most complex thing around. It's a good game, but it's so easy in every way. I don't think you can call something that 6 year olds can master as terribly mentally challenging for the computer geek.
How hard was it to set up the NAS? I had a bootcamp VMware instructor (also consultant) that said getting Win 2008's NAS working was a nightmare compared to Win 2003. And he's a self-proclaimed "Windows guy". Take it for what you will.
Lots of good advice floating around... obviously adjust to your own reality is the thing to keep in mind. Some things work great for some ppl but not others.
I'd like to make a point in that light about the don't lose your temper thing. Some people have a breaking point for temper, as I do. Somebody mentioned they go from seeming totally fine (controlling your anger) to white hot rage when you reach that point. I'm one of those people. But even though I'd much rather not get angry most of the time, on a couple of occasions I think I was justified in getting really really angry at my wife. I love her to death and always will, I respect her a huge amount, but sometimes she makes mistakes that are too big to be glossed over. Sometimes what she wants is more important, but sometimes what I want (or what the kid needs) is more important... and once in a blue moon losing your temper over something that you know is critical is OK.
Now if your wife and you are perfect this won't happen.
Sounds to me like somebody just doesn't like him personally b/c he considers safety more than most scientists. I mean really, most scientists I know wouldn't really mind blowing up the world as long as it was their invention that did it.
I think it is pretty clever. But I still hate touchscreens. If I mistype one out of 10 letters, that's way too much. I'll stick to my blackberry and continue to not cut my thumbnails too short... and that allows VERY accurate typing. Hekl, I'n evem typing on mu blsckberru now with ni problens.
I was thinking the same thing about wasted energy for the horizontal position, but then I thought about their tails. Do their tails go vertical also to save engergy? I can just see those huge dinosaurs now, tail held straight up like a house cat. Heh.
But really, I can't see them staying horizontal for long with their heads... even if the head weighed only a few pounds that would make it so much more energy wasted.
The only way to get more efficient cars is to have government rules, apparently. The general population and the car manufacturers can't agree on what people want. They say while technology has advanced since the 70's, avg gas mileage is worse b/c people started going for SUVs, etc.
I don't think you understand politics. For Obama or anybody to be effective, they have to deal with the huge huge amount of dishonest bastards in politics. Sometimes that means hiring a few of them to "convert" them to the other side. Seriously, if it were a perfect world 99% of all current politicians would be burned, drowned, and decapitated in that order for the dishonest and evil shit they do. I'd be all for it, but apparently we aren't there yet.
Yeah sort of. Half want to just cheat. Half want to just speed things up and quit wasting time so they can get to whatever point they want to be able to do something. "Cheating" in an MMO is not cheating, it's just buying back a little of your time for real life.
I think grinding away on an MMO is a huge waste of time... I want all my skills available in short order. Which is why I like FPS games, fighting games, and the like.
Let me start off by saying I'm not a track athlete, nor do I run much at all. But common sense abounds for this topic. When I don't wear shoes, my feet stop aching. Don't let any of the salesmen fool you. Natural is always better. It always looks better, feels better, is better. Except when it causes an unwanted pregnancy.
There was something on PBS last night that talked about how agricultural waste, especially cow and chicken crap, is a huge huge water pollution problem in many places in the US. I hope this fuel conversion process is something that can really happen large scale. The other cool info they talked about is that a lot of water pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay area are causing male fish to grow female eggs and other scary things that could cause problems in people, too since people drink this water and the filters at water processing plants can't handle these "new pollutants". Great, we won't just go sterile, we'll grow 6 legs and our balls will drop off.
Actually LSU is probably has one of the most advanced agricultural research centers around. There's the old tour with the living cow with the hole in its side for tourists to put their hand in a living stomach (fun for the family!) and other scary things. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the fuckers was working on a pig with a human head or something.
Don't be a tool and think that everybody in the southern states is an uneducated freak.

My understanding of going to joystick would be partly to help avoid injuries. Based on old info that most injuries are caused by steering wheels.

But it seems that not everybody agrees with that point anymore:

Actually it would have been 100% contamination except for those lazy college students that keep leaving their wallets in their pants on laundry days.

I think the doubt thrown on the validity of the tests is all over the place anyway. Why not just let the tests out and end the debate there?

When I'm a 60 something gamer, I'm going to have plenty of built-in response times (not reflexes... that's when a doctor hits your knee).

It's a big deal. I've been trying to get my users off IE without completely killing it, and this will be one good way to do so.
