To be a stickler, the reason you don't drive on the road within 15 minutes of rain is ALSO due to the "natural" oils in the road coming up. And on new roads, it's vastly due to the oils that live inside the asphalt.

  4. Sounds good to me on Mozilla Blocks Vulnerable Java Versions In Firefox · · Score: 1

I assume you have to be on the most recent release to get this Firefox update. That should be clarified in the article somewhere obvious.

It's not always easy to get time to deal with all the rogue computers we have floating around, and the damned Java vulnerabilities are killing us. We go to all the trouble to make users actual users and not admins despite a huge backlash, then next thing you know they are getting viruses as regular users mostly due to Java problems. WTF? Middle sized businesses can't keep up at least from what I've seen.

I think this is a nice idea from Firefox to help protect users. I hope it works. I guess IT depts still have to deal with getting everyone up to date on Firefox to do it though... it never ends. Maybe it is time to go virtual desktop for 90% of users.

  5. BB for 1touch dialing/typing, iPhone for browsing on RIM Firing (Nearly) Everybody · · Score: 1

I have both for work, and I use either one of the other depending on what I want to do.

I find I don't put my life in danger when I want to call someone on my BB because I have so many favorites/hotkeys/one touch/whatever you call it - it's super easy. I hold down K and it calls Kate. I hold down M and it calls Mom. When trying to use the iPhone to call people while driving, my attention would have to be on the phone for several moments and that's dumb. I also like typing on my BB much better. But the touch screen and trackpad on BB suck... I like their older models better to be honest.

IPhones are way better for browsing, reading (including emails), and playing around. And iPhone zoom functions work great for emails and attachments. And attachment compatibility is way better on iPhone. I hate typing on them still... never as fast or accurate as a keyboard.

Also my life went to crap for days for having to patch a ton of email servers due to some odd iPhone bug while our blackberries never had a problem. BB wins on that front.

So if somebody can combine the two for real, give it to me. Until then I have to have both anyway, so I use one when calling and the other when playing around. Either is good enough for email for me. It just sucks having to lug around 2 heavy phones.

Yes, it is mostly about the heating problems with the non-ionizing... but to pretend we know all the effects and all the harmful effects is ridiculous. it comes down to some people would rather err on the side of extreme caution, some would rather err on the side of zero caution.

I do have a personal anecdote. I know a guy who used to work for the military installing satellite microwave communication transmitter dishes in the field. He said you get a *major* headache when you screw up and allow your head to be exposed to the transmission for a short period of time (moments?). I guess heating up his brain was bad. CHURCHES IN

Even though you had a good idea of what was going to happen with the church thing (you've only known for sure for a split second), they throw you off a little again with relationship type stuff:

    HOW TO
    How to tie a tie
    How to kiss
    How to get pregnant
    How to lose weight

    HOW TO A
How to ask a girl out
How to ask for a raise
How to ask a guy out

    Bigger hint:
    How TO ASSEM
    How to assemble wedding invitations

Then the realization and the culmination of what has happened to lead up to this (if you don't have a wife/husband and kid(s) you might not really get it yet):
    How to assemble wedding invitation

    How to assemble a crib.

Simple solution, I find. Make sure you have a few projects that directly affects the head of accounting. They quickly realize just how great IT is, because it should always allow them to operate their department with less people. The only problem may be when IT works under accounting, but if that's the case, you better either be buddies with the head of accounting or move on to a better developed internal structure. I'm not saying you can't work for a small business, I'm just saying being a sub-dept to accounting is asking for trouble. But being somebody else's "burden" and making yourself invaluable to accounting somehow works. At least that's what I've seen.

God knows malware drives sales of new computers like nothing else, and it's basically just money lost for the poor average soul. Not that I have tons of sympathy for users that don't want to learn anything, but a lot of people out there have real lives with families and simply don't have a good resource to even get started off on the right foot.
