There is not an infinite supply of homes or services, there has to be a limit on the # of people.
I want tons and tons of people from all countries to come here, this is the greatest country in the world. I _don't_ want people to come here illegally, and they should be prosecuted for doing so.
What the hell does the census have to do with the Fifth Amendment? The Fifth Amendment regards self incrimination *for a crime*. The census is part of the Constitution.
Oh, so this *doesn't* mean that I could theoretically buy an Xbox One and buy cheap used Xbox 360 games on disc and play them?
If so, bummer. This is what I thought it was.. (and is what made me somewhat interested in getting an Xbox One - yes, for old games, e.g. Xbox exclusives, though I know the list has only one Fable game so far).
So it'd be "skill" to tell the difference between me and Michael Jordan.
Yes, especially if you are in reality comparing players that are much closer to each other in ability.
So you think the guys in "Moneyball" did NOTHING clever or skillful at all?
Even though just plopping money in a S&P500 tracking fund will likely be better in the long run, people can and do do research to determine which stocks are better at a particular time, for example.. and that takes skill.
Because stocks are not gambling, in general. (Some "investing" _CAN_ be gambling, e.g. buying a stock without doing ANY research).
Apparently you are not a skilled investor. Skilled == invest for the LONG haul, and you will very very very likely make more money than you can otherwise.
Get a DVR (e.g. Tivo). Voila, no ads. Even if you insist on watching 'close to live', you can still delay enough to skip the commercials (heck, even "just" pause it a few minutes at a time if you're THAT obsessed with watching it live).
Even though I didn't RTFA, even though I'm making fun of the part I quoted, I actually think it *could* be a decent idea.. if the bedrooms are relatively sound-proof (and don't read anything into that other than wanting to be able to sleep at any time).
But "their own bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens" really IS most of a house, to me. (e.g. my sole TV is in my bedroom.)
Having some other shared areas would be reasonable, IMHO.
I don't know where they got that 3 hour time from. (Maybe much later T180 tapes?) T160 were the only ones longer than T120 that seemed to get down into the "cheap" range. (I have TONS of old VHS tapes, probably all degraded by now.)
I wish re-recordable Blurays had gotten much cheaper. Even though I just instead download (non-copy-protected) media from my Tivo to a hard drive, sometimes it's easier to use removable media.
Umm, CableCard has been out for a very long time now.. and as other posts mentioned, Tivos can already do much of this (including VOD and PPV, though I've never used the latter).
It's not ALWAYS random. There are some levels that are based on chain reactions, and those seem to have colors that fall in that cause the chain reactions (i.e. more than other levels).
Plus for example, level 181 (the first Hard level, which I'm stuck on), has only a few open spots at all in the beginning... Though upon writing this, I honestly saw the VERY first time in many many tries where I didn't have a move and the level ended. EVERY other time (and upon restarting it), there are three of the same color in a 'v', so the only move is to move the bottom of the 'v' up one.. If it were truly random, I'd have the other situation happen far more often.
Darn, read the summary too fast.. I thought it was referring to some PS4 backwards compatibility I had not heard about yet.
Nope, "just" the Xbox One backwards compatibility.
As much as many people seem to think it's not important at all, the backwards compatibility (even if limited, like it is) has made me slightly interested in getting an Xbox One someday.. to play the various Xbox exclusives that are interesting. (Yes, I know, "slightly interested" isn't a big deal, but I bet some others are much more interested.)
I know about the architecture switch, but I'd pay $100 more for a PS4 if it were backwards compatible (or automagically get PS4 versions of all of my PS3 games, even if I had to send in the discs to get them ground up).
It's amazing how quickly you lose your tolerance for long commercial breaks when you cut cable.
What tolerance? I was using VCRs long before DVRs, to avoid ads.
I *do* sometimes use On Demand, with forced commercials.. Relatively rarely. But some shows are there WITHOUT commercials OR are FF-able.. (Manhattan has had completely commercial free episodes for virtually all.. The first season premiere had a couple of FF-able ads.) So having the option is good, but forced commercials always, that I pay for? Nope.
A AAA game will never be in a humble bundle, and any reasonable sale price will take place after the game has been superseded long ago by something else as the new hotness.
The Mass Effect trilogy for $4.80 was quite a deal (on PSN). I don't care about "the new hotness". I'll just wait until it's the _old_ hotness, and get it inexpensively. I already have far far more games than I'll likely ever play.. But at these kinds of prices, I don't mind if I start it on easy and only play for a couple of hours. It's still way cheaper than a single movie, in terms of entertainment / time.
A car manufacturer can certainly get a competitive advantage over retailers since they own a monopoly on supply
You can still buy computers at other places, even though various computer companies have had direct sales channels (online and offline) for over a decade now.
Heck, I think the manufacturer's price is likely to always be the highest or tied with other dealers, for that same fear. (Another example.. Sony stuff is almost always MSRP on their site/in their stores, even though you can get it cheaper at Amazon.)
Then tell me, what makes $70,000 specifically a better idea than $71,000, or $69,000? What makes it better than $200,000, or the current minimum which is near $15,000?
Can't answer your first question, but the value was probably chosen because it's near the "$75K happiness number".
So you want to steal my money to give it to people who didn't earn it?
So that they can trickle down (heh) federal funding to state/local utilities to improve/maintain plumbing?
To see how "modern" each area of the country is? (Even ignoring Amish and the like, aren't there likely SOME areas without indoor plumbing?)
You still didn't answer the question. The census and the Fifth Amendment have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
How in the !@$ could the census even be INVOLVED in confessing to a crime?
That's absolutely ridiculous.
There is not an infinite supply of homes or services, there has to be a limit on the # of people.

It's unrelated to the outcome, but can help _predict_ the outcome.
Am I going to bet on you, or Michael Jordan, in a basketball game?
I'm going to bet on Jordan.

I see no way to comment on that article..

You do have a negotiation, exactly as you state. Yes or no.
Yes means you continue using it, no means you stop using it.
I'm not being sarcastic, either.

I'm not very far into it, but I think what people rave about is the interaction between you & the NPCs, the backstory.

Can you describe what the book ending was like? (Is there really no spoiler tag here?)
I thought Iron Man was funny, btw.
But couldn't there be legal derivative works using the Mickey Mouse image/style from that time?
Does the trademark really cover all of the various permutations of the Mickey Mouse image?
Other cartoon characters, e.g. Bugs Bunny, changed significantly over time too.
Then come up with a better model that fits all of the observed data. (You'll probably win a Nobel Prize.)
That's how science works.
