I can't wait to get my Nintendo Numb Thumbs(tm) on this game and be in perfect control of beautiful cartoon Hyrule. I forgot my PS2 existed for the month after I bought Paper Mario; the storyline was a bit (ok a lot) kiddish, but the gameplay rocked!
Seems like Nintendo is the only company that actually cares about making fun games any more. Yes, they target kids. Who do you think has the most time to play games? Sony and MS are only out to get the dollars of teenage impulse buyers, who have jobs, but still live at home. If a game sucks, they will just buy another one with the next paycheck burning a hole in their pockets.
I got a PS2 box from Lik-Sang. You plug your monitor and speakers into it, then plug it into your PS2, sound card and video card and you can flip your monitor between computer and PS2! It was $40 bucks and was not packaged very well (two of the units were crammed into nothing more than a bubble-envelope) but they survived the trip from Hong Kong ^_^. Both units kinda went on the fritz the first time I played with them, but now they work perfect (?!??).
Only thing with it is the colors are a little washed out (and the picture is a little blurry if you use the included VGA cable) but I like playing in 640x480. I have wished for a way to play PS2 on my Sony G400 since I got it! Since I have the G-series Sony monitor, I have an extra input and can just toggle between Debian and my PS2 from the front of the monitor itself, damn it's neat. Works great with mp3s too; PC pumps out the tunes via the rear channels and PS2 can be heard (if you want) through the front speakers! Of course it isn't all that technically impressive, it is conveneient as hell; gotta fsck that 40gig or waiting for mozilla to finish compiling? Flip to input-2 and play some PS2 or watch a DVD!
My favorite thing is the quote that is (literally) on all 6 faces of the box: "This product will situate you in the enjoyment as in dreamland." I guess dreamland _is_ slightly blurry, so it's accurate! I wonder what nutty little phrase they came up for the GameAxe?

I honestly don't find "Adobe Illustrator" & "KIllustrator" confusingly similar, but if I was familiar with Adobe Illustrator (I'm not), I know I would expect KIllustrator to be very similar. I don't take issue with the article; I don't think that the article is really implying that there will be more cross-platform games. I do, however, take issue with timothy's comment, "Which should mean more cross-platform games, so perhaps
consoles can be bought and sold more on their merits than their stable of games."
More cross-platform games means creating lowest common denominator games, which will actually harm a console's ability to be bought and sold more on their merits, unless you mean those merits having nothing to do with playing games (ie: watching DVDs). If a game is designed to be cross-platform from day one, why spend the time/effort/money to specialize the game for a particular console's features? Look at the pre-Nintendo video game market crash; this was a big contributor.
Now on the other hand, when a game makes its debut on one console and subsequently appears on others, take Tony Hawk Pro Skateboarding for example, it is usually a good thing. The reason being that the game is developed by one group (Neversoft-THPS on PSX) taking full advantage of their chosen console, then handed off to another team (Edge of Reality-THPS on N64) who optimizes the game to take advantage of their console of choice. Many times the ported version doesn't quite live up to the original, but owners of another system get a similar experience. That will simply happen less if the focus is on developing for as many consoles as possible.
Yes, and GNU/Linux is a wonderfully stable system, but keep in mind that it...is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but without any warranty; without even the implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular

In the response to the "Big ballpark hypothetical" question, Dan says, Also, as a side note, it would be difficult for a case to rely entirely on individuals "with a conscience and access to the suspect source." For one reason, they are probably in violation of their employee confidentiality agreement by telling anyone about what they know to be in the suspect source code, so they may not want to come forward to testify.
Consider this: You take a job at a company that specializes in "entertainment web sites" and you sign the typical "confidentiality agreement." During the course of your assigned work, you discover that one of the company's most popular revenue producers is a kiddie-porn site (that masquerades as a legal adult-porn site on the accounting books). Can the company successfully sue you for "violating the confidentiality agreement" if you report their illegal activities?
It seems to me that if the company in question is violating the law (copyright infringement of GPL'd work) then that company's "confidentiality agreement" would effictively be nullified. Is there any truth to this, or am I just letting my IANAL colors shine too bright?

Be careful about recommending the current worm light! I own a GBA and I got a "Pass-thru" worm light (the one with nice white LED) and it is a pain in the ass (well it was before I lost it:)
The problem is: on the GBA, the connector is on the top of the unit rather than the side. When you put the GBC worm light on the GBA, you must fold the wire back onto itself and twist it to make it face the screen. It isn't very steady either unless you coil the wire up (kinda helps absorbs some shock). With the worm lights designed for GBA I am sure this will improve; either the wire will face the right way or you'll have more wire to coil for stability. There is also a tiny little piece of plastic that would slide behind the GameBoy when the light is plugged in, but that snaps off easily. Oh yeah, also, you can only play GBA games with it because the plug is bigger (due to pass-thru feature) and will cover the cart slot (old GB games stick out quite a bit).
Besides that, I hear that the GBC models are very dim for GBA games (I didn't notice with the white LED one) since the output voltage or something is lower with the newer GBA protocol. Supposedly, when you put in an old GB game (which I couldn't do with my worm light) the connector uses the older protocol and old worm lights shine full bright. I tend to believe that because my friend was connected to another friends GBC with his GBA (trading Pokemon or Dragon Warrior Monsters or some crap) and he ate through a fresh pair of batteries in less than 10hrs.
Actually the tracks in F-Zero: Max Velocity are all new, but the gameplay is all there. The wider screen helps too, but I tend to tilt the unit too much as I play and I lose my viewing angle. Tip: tap the accelerator button for more traction around corners and never use your brake (it's a racing game for god sake!). In fact, configure the controls so brake is L+R and turbo/boost is B (a little tricky to do in japanese; I beat the Pawn (1st) circuit before I remembered F-Zero even had turbo!)
Backlight would be nice, but my GBA has gone close to 25hrs on one pair of AAs (the generic ones that came with it no less)! It's also very close to the same size as a GBC. I, and a few friends, think that it feels (slightly) lighter as well, but I think that has alot to do with the fact that GBA cartridges are about half the size of old GameBoy games! The specs I have seen for it say that GBA is like 2 grams heavier, so I bet sans cartridge, GBA is heavier. Once you see the games in action (screenshots==shit) it's simply amazing that Nintendo has delivered so much more in a package the same size and weight...but longer battery life!
This thing is a gem, and at $100, a steal (I paid $119). You can start looking for one now, a local game store here had them nearly 2 months ago. They're the japanese ones, but GameBoy doesn't do regional lockout (never has) so all your old US games work fine (my friend has seen minor graphic glitches in some, but I doubt the US version will fix that). American games are on sale now; I got Tony Hawk 2 yesterday (from a "legit" game store that wouldn't import GBAs) and my jaw drops every time I play it.
