Ok, so if a "hardcore" gamer goes into a store, looking to purchase a wii but they end up having to come back over and over again in hopes of getting one they are going to really consider if the ps3 or 360 are really that bad. That makes sense to some degree but I don't really see too many people that were on the fence waiting a good year to change their minds. It seems like if someone was just waiting to get a wii since launch, they would have broken down by now. I know a lot of people who want wiis but wouldn't even consider another console because it's not what they want. If grandma or soccermom goes looking for a wii but doesn't find it, they aren't going to grab another console no matter how cool gears of war is. I'd say a fair share of the casual gamers that are after the wii aren't going to buy another console if they can't get a wii, they are just going to either wait or go spend that money else, completely outside of the gaming market.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Jerome Niedermeier ruled that a man charged with transporting child pornography on his laptop across the Canadian border has a Fifth Amendment right not to turn over the passphrase to prosecutors. I can see the spin on this one getting pretty bad. Privacy advocates are surely going to catch grief for defending a filthy child pornographer (who hasn't even been found guilty yet, I assume). Still, innocent until proven guilty, justice for all, I hope this doesn't deter people from speaking out about the privacy issues in question here.
No, the day some unsuspecting crook tries to stick up the place, now THAT'S gonna be funny. I hope that gets on court tv. "I now present evidence 1-p, videofeed #16"
I think you should feel pride that you have created comments insightful enough to be copied. Surely, the reason you posted them was to spread insightful knowledge and not merely to appear intelligent so your goal is still being accomplished right?
Higher gas prices don't have to harm the poor. It means the poor drive to work in cars with smaller engines. Big deal. You are wrong there. The poor will keep driving their insanely inefficient cars because they can't afford another car so instead of feeding their kids they will be feeding their car just to make it to their job.
hey! I managed to string words together into a joke without the help of the words "FAG", "NOOB" or "ROXORS." Doesn't that classify as above their heads?
You can tell them no. Explain to them that you do that sort of thing for a living and it's not something you care to do without compensation. The only reason your family treats you like a doormat is because you seem to let them walk all over you. Thank you! I hate when people, even friend I just met, after learning I fix computers for a livng, ask me to help them with their problems!
If I ask someone what they do for a living and they say waiter, I'm not going to ask them to go get me a beer. You don't ask a mechanic to come out and take a quick look at your car if you are hanging out, why would you expect anything different from someone in another profession?
"Society may see the action I took as unacceptable in the eyes of 'normal' people," Oliver said. "I felt that by not taking evasive action as a father in the right direction, I might as well have taken my child to some swamp filled with alligators and had them tear him to pieces. It's no different." I love his usage of the term "evasive action."
I was under the impression that XOs could only be used in a certain area or they'd be useless. man, I never thought I'd see the day when/. approves of bricking technology.....
Ok, so I gotta say, this is too much vista hating in the comments. I think the community should be congratulating MS for backing off of their anti-piracy campaign a little bit. They are changing a feature to help users, like the legit users who are having issues with this. I agree that they should do away with more of it but hey, you have to start somewhere. This isn't like an article just saying they are thinking about it, they are going to implement it. Doesn't that deserve a bit of praise? Just to keep the record straight, I am not a windows fanboy. I am typing this from a macbook and I have no intentions of going back to windows anytime soon. If anything I am a mac fanboy but seriosuly, the majority of the other posts I have seen are just bashing vista in such an offtopic manner that it bothers even me.
Here's the reason, there are so many news articles about government mistakes. When the vast majority that you speak of do their job right, it isn't news worthy because they are doing their job. We don't have news articles proclaming the garbage man sucessfully collected the trash today in the same sense that we don't have articles claiming that X senator didn't receive a bribe. We expect these things. On the other hand, when officials, especially public ones, make mistakes the press covers these things. Since most of us don't live next to public officials, our only source of information is the press in general, therefore giving the general public a sckewed view on how most officials are. As far as justified criticism vs unjustified, I think that's more of a matter of opinion. People hold different standards on what is to be expected but given the bias I mentioned above it's hard to blame the general public for having a negative view in general.
and actually RTFA. The article's focus is not on how they are paying too much to get rid of their tracks like half of the comments are about. the real issue is that a higher-up called a private business to handle it for him instead of using his own IT department. Yes, they ran a 7-level wipe on it but he claims he wasn't trying to remove data. His reason for the call was a virus, or so he claims. Suspicious? Sure, it's possible that something like that is required by regulations for his department but I would think there would be something against people using private IT businesses for company machinery, especially considering the hefty pricetag (charged as a business expense no less)
He also directed Geeks on Call to erase laptop computers that had been used by his two top political deputies, who had recently left the agency.
Jeff Phelps, who runs Washington's Geeks on Call franchise, declined to talk about specific clients, but said calls placed directly by government officials are unusual. He also said erasing a drive is an unusual virus treatment. "We don't do a seven-level wipe for a virus," he said. Those just puts the icing on the cake as far as suspicious activities in my book.
You say "we" but how many of those experiments have you run? How many did you witness? Ok, so you watched a baking soda volcano in science class, I'm positive that you must have had independent verification that your senses are acurate right? What?!?! You don't even know if those are realiable? you take a lot of things on faith.
so from this logic, I should publish an article about/. eating babies, because as far as I can tell from their website they don't have any policies against eating babies. Yes, I know that's an extreme situation but the point remains that you shouldn't drag a corporation through the mud so that they have to report their policies just to clear their name. Responsible journalism is to investigate first and then report about what was discovered instead of the other way around. Besides, wouldn't you rather a 3rd party company tell you how environmentally friendly a company is instead of the company itself?
I don't think they are saying they aren't making a profit. I think the "problem" is that they aren't making the same amount of money they were when they were selling boatloads of cds instead of music download money. While your breakdown does make it seem favorable for the label I bet they made more from selling cds, maybe not per song but with the increased number of songs sold due to selling only as albums i bet they make a nice chunk of change.
I know washington hasn't heard those words in a while but it's glad to see they still exist somewhere every once in a while. This is why the founding fathers of the US made three branches instead of just 1 blunt club. I just wish we would see this sort of thing happen more often..
Ok, I know this is offtopic but this seems to be the place to ask. I have this friend *cough* who illegally downloaded some albums. Some of them he really enjoys and wants to support the artist but he is unsure how to do this. I suggested he buy cds but he said he didn't want the environmental footprint of that method, plus he already has the music and listens to it in a digital format that he prefers. He was curious about which of the online music stores give the largest cuts to the artists. Obviously the indie download sites will give a larger percent but what about bands like... Tool or Gorillaz? What is a good music download site to download these so as to support the artist?
the thousands of mammalian species that's not a large number when you consider the 100% that use sex to prolong the existance of their species.
defense of young from predators I would imagine that even if no mothers were to protect their young, at least one would survive. How many of those young would exist without sex?
