All the while we were running a 16 node beowolf cluster for web log processing, also usinge linux for web, dns, chat, app, mailrelay, ids and developement servers. I believe he was fired. Our currnet CEO still doesn't know because it doesn't know because it doesn't show up on expenditures.

Executives of "Fortune 500" companies don't know anything about what really happens on the lines besides what VP's tell them and what finance shows them. Linux isn't on either of those lists in most cases.

The reason why it's not a good seller is either people don't know about it or they think it isn't as important as $100 cost. We just bought 50 seats a couple months ago and were just about to buy 50 more and a key server. All due to people sending passwords in plain in email. The product has good email integration (with outlook anyway) and makes even the laziest person able to use it effectively.

MS would be smart to buy and bundle it w/ outlook but modify it a bit so it's not openpgp compatible.

If B aquires A's tradesecret through improper means and turns it over to C, C has a duty not to disclose or use it if he/she has notice that it's a trade secret and was obtained through improper means.

    • Notice: Cwill be deemed to have notice if a reasonalble person under the same circumstances would know or would be led to inquire further and a reasonable investigation would uncover these facts.

In other words If you were to obtaine a copy of some source that had been stolen from MS that a reasonable person would realize was MS source code, it could be found actionable if you were to use this code in whole, part or as reference in another project.

The "as reference" part is where it get a little more tricky. MS would have to prove that the resulting project had been substantially derived . So just having looked at code from MS or even having better understood a problem, doesn't necessarily mean that you're in trouble. All of this is dificult to prove

Just remember that MS only has a burden of proof in a preponderance of the evidence, Not "beyond a reasonable doubt" or "clear and convincing".

    • Meaningful encryption would push the 512 byte limit of dns udp packet to a much smaller payload, making the use of tcp for common dns activities necessary thereby tremendously reducing dns performance.
    • Meaningful encryption would cause CPU load - period. Imagine the com root servers having to encrypt every answer. This would probably end up requiring an Origin 2000 and remember that 8.2.2 isn't able to take advantage of SMP.

I have nameservers that can get well over a 1000 requests per second (not that they actually answer them all:). I'm not going to encrypt every response, it's just not that important.
