I haven't hand written letters since I got my C-64. When a recent job application required a hand written section (who ever heard of such a thing!) I had to type it out and then write it. That gave me time to think about the wording and of course, check the spelling.
Of course, now that everyone I want to communicate with has email, I don't send letters at all unless it is a cover letter with a resume. Even those are being submitted on line these days.
I didn't read the article:) so I don't know if it talked about life of the system, but if it will last more than 10 years, I want to put one in my garage. I has to be better than coal, my neighbors keep complaining about the ash from my coal fired power plant landing on their cars...
I'm all for exposure to the public of this type of data, but, can we trust them not to filter the data to forward their own political agenda. I think not. Like every group in Washington, they will filter out the sins of the people whose views they support while exposing the sins of those whose views they oppose.
Also, can we trust that the "Crowd" they attract to sift out this data will not be partisan in what they record. Again, I think not.
I've been watching this crap play out for half a century and studied the games that went on for the half century before that and it is always the same old crap. The design of our system of government perpetuates it.
If you had a database with say, 100k original images, plus each of those images saved with various levels of compression. Then scan through the files looking for differences between the known higher and lower quality images building a database of what "artifacts" look like. You could then use the database of "artifacts" that occur most frenquently to scan unknown images for matches. After visually reviewing the "artifacts" found in a thousand or so unknown images for validity (is it really something that lowers the quality of the image), you can determine if this method is valid. If determined to be valid, just bounce images off the database of known "artifacts" and rate them for image quality on some scale. The ones with the highest (or lowest depending on the design of the scale) is the better image.
Now, go write that grant (I'm guessing DOD would be interested in funding something like this), put together a staff of 10 or so (20 if you use undergrads) to build and visually analyze the database. Write some analysis software and have a field day.
Oh, by the way, I get 5% of the grant amount as consultant on the initial project design...:-)
Consider simple transistor circuits. There is a book out there called The Encyclopedia of Electronic Circuits that has hundreds of simple circuits.
Look at circuit design software like AutoTrax (Kovac Software). He has some great education pricing. They can design circuits, run SPICE analysis and then build them and verify the results.
I have to believe there are hundreds of universities that already have working payroll systems. Look at as many as you can, select the one that works best, purchase the basic product, pay the university in question for their mods and steal their configuration. Get a bunch of work study students and a decent consultant or two to migrate your data. Project complete!
These people are just pissing money away on junk!
I worked for a company (large company, thousands of employees, worldwide sales and marketing, multiple manufacturing operations in multiple countries) that had a horrible 5+ year SAP implementation with obscene amounts of customization and they spent less that that!
A developer built a building in Seattle a few years ago with some 300 sq ft units. They sold for about $125k. Maybe we could get TATA to come over here and do a development!
I respectfully suggest that if tens of thousands of businesses continue to demand sales and support for XP, Microsoft will follow the path they have thus far and continue to sell and support XP.
Order 4 simple (cheap) identical systems, but only get XP on two of them. The others are for spare parts and won't need an OS. Put the spares in a closet still in the boxes. In all likelihood, the displays will fail before the computers.
The thing is, he doesn't have a circuit, he has some idea about how some object might act (let's call it a spec.), but now idea how to make it act that way. He needs someone to design the product for him and he will write the software (or rather, modify software that someone else has written). Until both of those are done, nothing is truly invented.
Just imagine a guitar teaching you how to place your fingers on the strings. A little negative feedback for misplaced fingers maybe? As long as the current is limited, it shouldn't kill anyone.:)
Yeah, that's the ticket. Then they won't know where they are and won't know if they should start shooting and blowing things up. That's much better than working on a world were people aren't inspired to shoot each other and blow people up.
If this is their attitude, submit a new letter of resignation giving them 2 weeks from the time of the original letter.
All the company is going to do if called by a prospective employer is verify employment dates. They will not provide you with either a good or bad reference or open up your employment file. To do so risks lawsuits. If they give a bad reference, you will sue them. If they give a good reference and you don't work out with the new employer, your new employer will sue them.
If they are going to be dicks, leave sooner so you don't have to spend any more time there than needed.
Parents are either unwilling or unable to parent. Teachers aren't allowed to use that paddle any more, the one with the holes drilled in it to reduce the air cushion that made such a loud smack sound. How the hell else are you supposed to get their attention. Basically, the only thing left when students refuse to follow instructions is to call a cop and charge them with something.

Yet...
Like there isn't already enough crap floating around up there that someone needs to clean up!

Too late, Cheney took care of that during is first week running the country from some bunker under the naval observatory.

The last Ford I owned was a 75 Pinto. If I had to by a Ford, a 69 Mustang would be much better. :)

Any bets on if XP will still be available from Dell by then?
ACM offers many online courses in project management. Most of these are free to members.

I really hope there were pitchforks and torches involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck to you, I honestly hope you both make millions. A good idea combined with technical expertise can make a great product.
Jobs had Woz, need I say more...

Why would anyone post such a quality comment as "Anonymous Coward"? I'd mod it +5 Insightful were it in my power!

This is a question you should be asking a patent attorney, not a bunch of geeks. I guess if you can find a geek patent attorney that would be ok...
