I have replaced all the LEDs on my boxen with blue LEDs....to match the blue colour of the box. I just bought them at ELFA (Local store in Oslo) and they are very common and does not cost any more than "ordinary" LEDs.
This silly analogy pisses me off! Selling a computer without the cover is like selling a house without a roof. Selling it without an OS would be like a house without furniture. And who the fuck wants her / his house to be pre-installed without furniture? Especially furniture that breaks down when you use it and that can't be moved around if you don't like it!
As a citizen of Norway, I have to wait approx. 3/4 year for American movies to come out on DVD after they are released in the US. I think that sucks! And so does everybody else here, so they order from the US. But what about the Zones? Good question! Nobody (sic) here cares. I haven't ever seen a DVD player that has the zone system intact here. Every store, including the big chains, have to advertise with zone-free players or else they can't sell any! If the player isn't modified from the import agency, they do it at the store or ship it off to a repair shop that modifies it. Personally, I have a Harman / Kardon DVD-player that is zone-free from the factory (You just enter Pi with 6 digits and the zone to emulate or 0 for zone free).
Torvalds committed commercial suicide and conjured up a copyright that would prohibit anyone--including himself--from using his creation for capital gain.
As this statement proves, this list is mainly for the people that gained financially from IT in the '90s, not the people that actually did something for IT...
Well, at my work, we use (kick-ass cool) digital cameras with compact flash upwards to 128 MB. The readers for the CF are PCMCIA only, so we have a PCMCIA reader hooked up to the USB of the image processing computers. Surely, there's a similar solution to this little problem?
I would really like this thing to be tested here in Oslo, where we can get a shitloadd of snow from time to time.
Unless the canister is heated, mounted on a pole or the lasers are 10 Watts (Strong enough to melt the snow;) ), it's going to have a real problem. I don't think the net. admin is oging to be happy if he has to climb up on the roof each day to scrape snow off the $ 100 000 gadget...
I must say, I have a Jornada 420, and it started out with 256 colours (I think). But HP decided to release the "vibrant display driver" which is supposed give it 16 bit colour. It would be strange to release the new version with _less_ colours than the 420. Oh, I forgot to tell: Wince is REALLY bad. It is, truly. I have a Palm III, it beats the Wince device hands down in speed, size, battery time, usability etc.
I work at a large newspaper, and can remember that 10 years ago, the testing with digital photograhpy started. It is still not acceptable for every day use. And have _the_ best cameras.
The cameras are modified Canon EOS 1's. I think the type is Canon EOS 1 D-P (Digital, press edition.) They are fitted with a SCSI interface and a HDD. And they are expensive. Really expensive. The paper bought some for approx. 150 000 NOK, about 18 750 USD. But the reuslt is very impressive, although for enlargements, the 35 mm is superior (Even to APS and Advantix) and will remain so for quite a time.
Well, I give up on the Jornada 420, and go back to Palm III. I guess that what I like best about the Palm is that is does what it's supposed to do, fast and is reliable. The wince system _tries_ to do so much, with sound, video etc, but it all ends with a system that is prone to failures. I will look into other handwriting software, but if I have to buy it, I'll just buy a Palm keyboard...
Well, Jot isn't really far from Grafitti, it's just worse. Grafitti resembles the way you write in 70% of the time, and manages to keep a high recognition of the characters. Jot is _supposed_ to be recognising yout handwriting, but I end up having to improvise a "Jot-grafitti", because you _still_ have to do it the _Jot_ way. Get it? That's why Grafitti is better. And the hour I spent learning Grafitti is a better use of time than the hour I used trying to salvage data from the Jornada (420) when Wince screwed up the system _and_ the backup (Crashed during backup, I guess it cruel poetic justice.). If you write Grafitti style on paper, you're in trouble. It's like saying when I learn English, I forget my primary language. (Norwegian) Also, where the hell is the international support? I can't believe that MS put the Æ and the Å characters there but _forgot_ the Ø (No, not the symbol for diameter.). This renders the device useless in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
I want to rant a bit over this subject. MS is fooling a lot of potentional customers with this comparing, I think. I have a Palm III and a Jornada, both given to me from my employer. There's a HUGE difference between them, in RAM, display, battery etc. And guess what! The Palm comes out on top every time! Because it can do what I want three times as fast as the Jornada! Without crashing. It's a scam to compare them the way MS did, e.g. claiming that "user must learn Grafitti". True, but handwriting recognition in Wince really, really blows. Really! When I use Jot (Handwriting rec. for Jornada) I give up quickly and use the annoyingly little keyboard instead. Grafitti is a true blessing, and it takes just an hour to learn... Just an example. I don't care about the speed of the processor, I just want to access my e-mail in under 30 seconds. And Wince thinks that's a steep demand...
try askin mr. Jeeves any quiestion that's sex related, like "Where can I get sex in Denmark?" and he'll giv maps of Denmark, where the tourist offices are etc... gives a strange view of this country.
Well, the police here in Norway were fooled. The MPAA seem to have told them that this guy made a program that allowed DVDs to be copied en masse on your home computer, and also that he distributed DVDs. None of this is true, so the Økokrim (Economical / Enviromental crimes division) of the Norwegian police are a bit embarrased....
The RDS TP (Traffic Programme) CAN be turned off. My home tuner has this feature, my car deck and my DTS reciever also has it. It's very standard in Norway. Whenever this feature is turned on, it says TP in the display.
Also, there's a restriction here, a radio station cannot use this feature, unless it really involves a critical traffic situation.
There are several other interesting features to RDS, here's an example of what the Norwegian Broadcasting company (NRK) programme 2 contains: FM modulated sound (Duh!), GPS ground beacon time correction signal (For the naval traffic, it's used to adjust the signal from the satelites.), RDS (With RDS Text for displaying what the channel contains, RDS time, RDS PTY Programme Type (It can be Pop, Opera, Talk etc.), Channel ID and other digital control signals for special pagers etc..
Quite a lot, that is. I'm actually amazed that USA still use AM radio....and NTSC for that matter.;)
...the demo disk from QNX (www.qnx.com). A really good ssytem, but the small version looks like shit. And why does the developers _have_ to make the program launch button be a windows rip-off?
Why? The reason is the simple theories of of forces and counter-forces. If the W3 ever would have a system that worked as a universial moderator and access granter to the 'net, the workaround (and there's alway workarounds!) would be known to all people with a fair knowledge of the basic functions of the 'net within days, of even hours. The W3 would jest be spending their time smashing their heads in a wall, and they know that.
After the debate over who gets the credit, the blame-debate begins. There's not much question about the blame when the computers of today screw up, but what if the future AI computer made the error by it self? Makes you think....
Nice, but for my half-geek grrrl (check out this! ) who is 1662 kilometers away from me (And an ex now) I sent her a homemade Christmas calendar with hand wrapped (me, of course) candy. She's lovely and good Christmas traditions are worth hanging on to, even if you split up. My "first" ex (before this one ) gets only coal in her sock...

Ikke helt bra formulert, jeg glemte våre nordiske naboer... :) Jeg skal forandre .sigen snart.
So... What does it mean? :)

But a new HDD, man! They are dirt cheap anyway now.
