    Author Jerry Mander presented the same argument 35 years ago in his great book "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television".

    He never talks about programming. (It is a given that it is crap.) Instead he discusses the physiological side of TV and how it is affecting us... badly.

    Yeah, that was said about 2007 and it DID make a difference. It made a number of people i know finally dump MS and move to OO.

    Exactly! This is a very cheap "out". Look at all the money spent on those ridiculous "scooters" from the Scooter Store and similar soak-the-insurance schemes.

    Car safety problems come from the jerk behind the wheel...

    Who is programming his iPod, eating is lunch, fiddling with his Bluetooth earpiece while dialing his cellphone and booting his laptop to get the latest updates into his GPS... and so on.

    In other words he is doing everything but "driving" which is ALL he should be doing.

    Instead, the marketers have sold the public on the car-as-comfortable-living-room as a vehicle that should be as anti-brainworthy as possible.

    Get rid of all the complicated systems. Reduce the machine to its simplest functions. Oh, and it probably wouldn't hurt to plug in some personal responsibility while unplugging all the extraneous crap.

    The safest car I ever owned was my old MG. Why? Because I could feel the road and I knew that everyone was trying to kill me so I kept my guard up while driving it!

    Good on Sergey & Google. To those clods who will joke about how a six year old can be influenced let me just say I remember when the Berlin Wall was erected. I was six years old and although I don't remember the political details I vividly recall seeing a front page photo in the Detroit News that showed what Woodward Avenue (the main street in downtown Detroit) would look like if the Wall had been built right down the center. It scared the crap out of me then even without knowing why and it remains an image that has stayed with me. Of *course* Sergey was affected.

    Sorry, but you're delusional if you tjhink the economy is going to recover. There was no surplus in the 1990s. Clinton, like the Presidents before and after him (from both sides of the aisle) simply stole the FICA tax receipts, replacing them with non-marketable bonds.

    First off, this isn't health care reform. It doesn't change all that much about the health care system. It's health insurance reform.

    Exactly. This has nothing to do with "reforming" anything except who is going to be pocketing money. Here's a reality check for you - and let's not even consider ANY so-called "healthcare" reform bill...

    If every American were taxed at 100% *from now on* that STILL wouldn't be enough to retire the Federal deficit OR pay for all the programs that the Gubmint has instituted. Social Security is FINALLY at that point where what is paid out is greater than what is being taken in.

    If someone can demonstrate a way that this so-called healthcare reform bill will save us money as the promoters suggest I'd love to hear it. I quite frankly am looking forward to the upcoming financial collapse when the Ponzi scheme finally, tragically and inevitably fails.
