Google responds to take down requests, sometimes reluctantly if the take down is clearly unfair but nonetheless legal (as with the Scientologists), but they do do it. Google also isn't trying to make it easy for freeloaders to download copyrighted material without authorization.
Google (download software) download.com, Tucows, bothersoft, download3k, filehippo, Grants.gov, ZDNet, softpedia, Cisco, and oh look ThePirateBay.Org at bottom of first page of hits.
So Google, makes it easy for me to download copyrighted material without authorization, by searching websites (and caching), and directing me where to go. They give me a link, to a link to a file that gives me a link to download a packet that is part of a larger file, which can be combined with larger files.
I CAN create the worlds greatest and last O/S that it will ever need that works on ANYTHING, and give it away for free crushing the MS & Apple Empires.

or
I CAN download a copy of a movie that I am not allowed to buy (Region), can not afford to buy (My Welfare Check isn't in yet) , and is broadcasting freely over the airwaves. (HD TV / RADIO)
Not to mention there is a ton of stuff the poor staving exec's who have done nothing and create nothing, they resell someone elses work. Refuse to produce (Old Movies, Games, Programs)
That cant be gotten anywhere else. I still have ton of old NES games. I am the legal owner of those games, but because the hardware failed I can not able to play. And I still have a ton of old games & programs on floppy disk and CD which state I can copy all I want as long as only 1 copy is running at the same time.
Oh Yes I almost forgot for the past couple decades, the big selling point of VCR's and Cassette Players have always been things such as Dual Decks, Synchro Start, and High Speed Dubbing.
U.S. Laws ends at its borders, so if I'm not from the United States I have no reason to follow them, And the same can be said for the laws of the U.K. which means that a group of people used their morality at that point in time and said this or that is not right. What Group A says is Cool in the year 2000, Group B thinks is Evil in the year 1900, Law is subjective, self-serving, and at this point in time, bloated crap! Laws get added or added to all the time, but almost never get taken off. Everyone by now has seen some of the stupid laws, like no spitting on the sidewalk on Tuesdays. Or its illegal to sleep with your wife on a Monday before 8pm, Their both real laws, in someones dinky little circle, and I'm sure at the time they might have made some kind of sense, granted sick and twisted but sense to them at that time.

If it was an apartment building, chances are rather than having overhead lighting the rooms all have a switch to control that one plug that is supposed to be used for plugging lighting into.
These plugs which are never in a location you would actually want to put a floor or table light often come back to bite you in the arse. For most likely they end up being the location of your Computer / Entertainment center, alarm clock, and out of shear habit everyone always flips that switch on you including yourself.
I was screaming PGP until I got to the Open source part, removing funding from the equation Truecrypt is the only thing that will really do what your asking for. Its not bad & I like it, but its not PGP. And if you have been using something since the BBS days, your really not likely to change now so I am bias towards it. But from my limited (3 month) run with Truecrypt I had no problems and it was very stable, and little to no real performance difference from PGP's.
I just did that last night (a few times), spent 4 1/2 hours on the phone with Time Warner, My service was with a 15Mbps Commcast, when Time Warner took over it was supposed to upgraded to "22Mbps" however I currently have 3 months worth of logs of speed tests ranging between 3Mbps and 6Mbps and mind you the normal package is 5Mbps.
To make matters worse, Tajji errr I mean Mr. John Smith's little head exploded anytime when I told him anything that wasn't in the same order of his queue card. Tier 1 - Tier 3 I had different names/clones of Johnny, all of which I had to call back and use a reference number because they concept of VoIP.
They also could not understand that if the problem exists using Cisco Catalyst 3750, D-link 4500, and Linksys WRT, the problem was not in the router. I was asked to perform a (tracert -d)without a address (at tier 1 & 2 I really had to explain the concept of how tracert works, before I could get the target they wanted me to hit)
Anyway long story shortened, I got promoted to tier 4 FOUR AND A HALF HOURS LATER (maybe 5 i don't know at this point) who I get the privilege of calling back today.
The story of "I'm Sorry Sir Nothing I Can Do" doesn't fly, because the second they say that, my response is yes there is, you can downgrade me to the basic 5mbps package that I am receiving, and we can start talking about you paying me retroactively for at a bare minimum at least the 3 months I have logs for proving I'm not receiving said service while you bump me to the next tier.
Yes, I really do have 3 months of logs (avg test speeds between 3 and 6, with 3 whole hits coming back 12 and 1 single hit at 21mbps) twice daily (6am est / 11pm est roughly) I would test twice against NY, TX, CA, MI, IL, GA, write my numbers down, complain to myself about it, and postpone calling them until a later date because I knew it was going to be a nightmare again.
Loosing G4/Tech TV and a pair of the kids channels only in the room with the cablebox is why I broke down and let loose the flood gates.
I had a aunt that was a personal trainer and a total health freak, dead at 42 of lung cancer, never smoked a day in her life. (Her choice in preventing or causing the cancer 0% and in all honestly that woman did EVERYTHING you could ever do to prevent any illness)
My Best friends dad, never smoked a day in his life, dead at 46 of lung cancer because he worked in a plant that was covered in asbestos. (His choice in preventing or causing it 0%)
Now HIV I cant speak personally but I know large numbers of infected are so due to blood transfusions and being born.
I'm 32 years old, I can remember smoking on TV & Movies, Races sponsored by Smoking, Smoking Ad's on everything and anything, Clothing and gear from turning in cigarette upc's. I remember smoking in the malls & workplace, smoking in restaurants only ended 3 years ago, It wasnt until after 2000 it "bad for you" before that was something that "could" be bad and it wasnt very public, a far cry from the unholy crusade that it is today. And Yes I used to smoke for 15 years before I managed to quit. (My choice in preventing or causing it about 75%)
Cancer is something you are either genetically prone towards or not. I worked in health care for years and I've seen more people 80 to 100 that still smoked or used to smoked than those that never did. If your whole family dies from multiple forms of cancer, chances are smoker or not your going to die from it.
Yes you can try in do things in order to help increase the odds of preventing some types of sickness and illness, but in the end you really have no control, unless of course you have personally figured out how to correctly manipulate your own genetic structure.
This is why we receive band aides and treatments instead of cures for anything, after all which is more profitable a pill you take once and cures you of your sickness, or 30 pills a month, 12 months a year, for the rest of your life?
Heard the new one does that video calling deal. Video is just want I want when my boss calls or at 3 in the morning. Then again on second though with every telemarketer seeing me in my boxers. It might work better than the "do not call" list...lol
I believe your missing my point, my point was that everyone now days is in such a hurry to blame others for their misdeeds, after all its always someone else's fault, they didn't get hugged enough as a kid, whatever rather than placing blame where it belongs, in this case the Kid that did it, and the posted it to the hosting site.
I used the car co's and Beretta simply because I knew them off hand and A. They belonging to company's in Italy and B. Their products exist in and do damage or even death in the united states.
With the exception of guns for some odd reason. You (the guilty party)are at fault for anything you do with someone else s product. If you ran from the police in a Ferrari doing 160MPH and killed a family of four. YOU DON'T PASS GO, YOU GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL, you don't run off and try to sue Ferrari because someone used their product to break multiple laws. The car much like the website, does not care, it simply performs the function it was designed for, plain and simple.
Google's product in this case is Video hosting. Person B uploads anything from his coworker sleeping on the job to little billy singing in the school play. Anyone that looks for it, goes to their Website and watches. That is their product. They have no control over what Person's B-Z upload, all they can do is respond after the fact.
Unlike with a real physical product though you want to place the blame here. That is my problem with it.
Once you start a legal precedent there is no going back, and your essentially trying to blame Person A from Company A, for Something Person B did, taped, transferred to their computer and then uploaded to Company A's website, mostly without Company A's or Person A's knowledge.
You can not legislate morality, either a person does something, or doesn't. Law is simply something to discourage, deter, and/or punish. Because if one doesn't obey the laws, then why would they care if their breaking yet another? And after the fact its a bit late.
Mirage, Wideload, Bluestreak, Soundwave are some of the servers I hit every day. And to be honest its a whole lot easier to remember than DOM083, WEBSVR083, or POSTOFFICE083 ever was.
2.) Technically didnt the posters break the law by violating the TOS or EULA (Whichever Google uses, and thanks to whatever court decided these were legal binding not too long ago)In a ideal world your correct, but in the real world he who has the money makes the rules and gets away with it 9/10 times.
I'm sorry but if this is really that big of a problem in Italy, then you have bigger problems internally than where your children are doing their video hosting, and might be better off dealing with the problem in your own backyard than trying yet again to blame someone or something else.
Anyone reading/. knows there is a way around EVERYTHING, and there have been 1001 different free video hosting sites for a very long time, While I do not trust Google with my privacy, what we are really talking about here is USER CONTENT, i.e. anything anyone feels like tossing up, there is no way to control this. We have all seen characters placed before and after the title, way wrong tags, and etc used to post TV Shows, and Movies that are still in the theaters.
Just considering the shear volume, a 24hr take down is pretty damn good. Now mind you it is not that I mind seeing any corporate type heading off to jail, matter of fact the only thing that puts a bigger smile on my face is seeing some clueless politician going to jail.
But by using your logic we could lock up just about every suit from Lamborghini, Ferrari, De Tomaso, and Pagani because A. Every single car they make is created with first and foremost with breaking every known speed limit in mind and B. Their cars are responsible for more deaths than all the guns Beretta as manufactured.
Lord knows we have enough stupid kids here posting video's of themselves doing dumb stuff like beating their friends up or jumping off anything looking for those few seconds of fame or infamy. But truth be told, it was nobody from Google that went out with a camera and started video taping themselves. It was a few Italian brats that wanted their few seconds of fleeting fame / infamy. People need to start owning up for their own mistakes and problems and quit trying to place their own blame on others and the whole planet might be a better place.
I'm not sure who is stupider, the Italian prosecutor for bringing this case, or the guy who went to a country where there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The latter.
It's about time Americans realised that the rest of the world is comprised of sovereign states not subject to their jurisdiction. I consider this a bit of a trivial case, but there are much more extreme manifestations of this attitude, such as rendition and detention without charge.
It's not an acceptable excuse to say "it's OK for us to do it because we're the Good Guys", because much of the world has good reason to doubt that.
Funny, since us Americans say about the same thing (The UN, NATO, USG, etc the list goes on and on...)
Just about anyone 30+ can remember using Lycos, Alta vista, Yahoo, or Excite long before Google, and can remember typing in a single word, and having what you want in the first 10 results.
So yea basically before there were ad pages that contain nothing but keywords that were registered with the search engines.
but as camperdave said "The trick is that your ads must not get in the way of the consumer getting to the information that they want. If you break that popularity feedback loop, you'll drive consumers away. It has to be subtle enough to not interfere."
This is very much the reason google is nearing the end of its life cycle, and reason behind the need and great importance for them to hook you on email, web apps, etc.... Just as Yahoo and others did before. History really does repeat itself.
In the USA its more of a problem of greed, over-selling and business model.
While contracts have changed over the years, Mine with timewarner states it as being always on and always available.
For which I will be over charged a vast amount for my 10Mbps connection that will never really run at full 10Mbps.
So out of the box, they already broke their contract, (Yes I'm aware that the wording is more complex and they no longer read anything like the old ones that some of us still have)
Their business model is based on selling more bandwidth than they have because nobody will really use all of what they are paying for would they.
Even the biggest pirate, still only gets his 10mbps down and/512kbps up so if they sold what they really had in the first place, it wouldn't be a problem in the first place.
Personally over the years, my premium package has gotten upgraded over the years, and I believe it is supposed to be 20Mbps or something near that speed tests put it between 3 Mbps & 21 Mbps at any give point in time, yet anytime I download Its a freaking miracle if its faster than 500/800Kbps and on a happy day I see that coveted 1.2Mbps, while I can go to or remote in to work on their full lines and pull down from the same server to my workstation at speeds of around 3-4 Mbps
Anyway, Administrator accounts are the default and therefore what 99% of users are going to be using.
And only when Microsoft change this will Windows be half way towards being secure.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the default IS limited user account when creating a account.
Now the account created during install is an admin account, but I believe it safe to say if your the one installing the operating system, your responsible for the administration of that computer.
Still it could be better, but you have to have a admin account before you can really have anything else.
But what alternative is there other than admin account named root with a general knowledge password of Microsoft, that the average user will never change?
Either way i'd still like to see an end to the "If someone breaks into your house you must delete all of this stuff within 24hrs" levels of BS we see in EULAs.
Have you told that to your local representative, assuming that you live in a representative democracy?
I would but it would do no good, considering that I live in the United States of America which is republic.
It will however be available as a torrent :)

Even the biggest pirate, still only gets his 10mbps down and /512kbps up so if they sold what they really had in the first place, it wouldn't be a problem in the first place.
Played Eve Online for 5 years, Never once paid for any of the expansions, Nor did I have to pay to move my toon to a new server.
Yeah, but his friends call him "Raj".
My gods man, have you never placed a call to tech support, his name is (Tom, Mike, George, or Larry)
