  1. Eaugh - Must we? on RedOffice 4.0 Beta Updates OpenOffice UI · · Score: 1

Seriously, I loathe the damn menus in office 2007. Must we copy them? At least tell me we can/will be able to revert.

I'm not the only person - even some of my less 'open source friendly' co-workers and friends switched to open office right after discovering the new office menu system.

I find it unintuitive and cumbersome.

    How dare you be logical.

Such an idea couldn't possibly work! Someone could pay the $X, download our entire collection and share it all on bittorrent for everyone else!!

TBH, I think that's a great idea - I havn't downloaded a single mp3 in over 3 years (sorry, but nothing good has come out recently - yes that's how bad your music is, I won't even go to the effort of downloading it for free). Making me pay $x per month on my ISP bill would be wrong - unless you were giving it to the porn industry.

However, if you made a site with a monthly subscription that let you download limitless or X per month songs (be reasonable about it - remember you have to compete with free) and made it easy to search/use with no DRM. People will generally prefer to use such a site as it'll be faster and easier then most of the other methods of downloading such files.

    RE ALP quote.

Yeh that's how they sell it so that everyone who opposes it looks like a porn addict. If that's all they block with it, I really don't have a problem (outside of the fact that it's going to break my internet - and I have this thing called self control - and I think the money could be better used for education/medical - and...).

The biggest problem I have with it is they (and the media) keep trying to sell it as a method for protecting children. Both from predators and "accidental exposure" then when you don't support it they fall back to calling you a hard core porn addict or a child porn viewer. When in reality if sold and installed as the ALP say on their website it will do much sweet FA for protecting children.

I frankly don't care at all for the discussion of censorship - if you can do it and 100% don't effect my regular use of the internet without spending my money or my taxes on it (because I'll never use it and would rather see my money/taxes go to education/etc) then go for it but I know you can't so this is why I'm opposed.

I have to laugh tho, it shows what the game is worth if you think about it. I have no problems going out and buying GTA games (PC only I don't believe in consoles), in fact I own every one that's come out on PC - I even bought 1&2 before they were released free. I have no intention to buy CoD4 because Activision jacked the prices to screw up us Aussies - When it first came out you could buy it for 50 odd USD, now it's 80 odd USD - It makes me want to pirate it to spite them, I know I can get it from the US far far far far cheaper. When was the last time Americans payed $80+ in any currency for a game? I could go into the list of crap games I've paid for without 'trying' first - or buying after playing a demo that made things look better then they are (BF*.* for starters) but the fact remains, I'm not going to spend $80usd (not $80aud) on a game that the Americans can get for less then 50 usd. (Note, I don't have a copy of CoD4 but I have considered it.) You also seem to forget that PIRACY is just as much of a problem on consoles, a quick survey online shows that almost all the most recent games can be downloaded - for example Mass Effect (Was the only one I could think of - isn't panic media marketing great?). I don't have a problem buying a good game at a good price (In the case of GTA, I would pay 80usd because I get months of game play out of it, not hours - but then, I'd hope they charge the Americans 80usd for it also.)
