I was planning on picking up the book on Saturday morning and I was going to avoid the Web, TV, and radio till I finished. Now I've got to start the self-imposed media blackout now.
So when will the army release the video game for this to give all those teenagers a head start on the training they need to be a part of the new military?
Or the video game will BE part of the new military. ("Ender's Game"):-)
Leo was one of the hardest working men on television back in those ZDTV days.
Now he's one of the hardest working men in podcasts / radio. Check out http://www.twit.tv/ (i.e. This Week In Tech) - his podcast empire. Leo helps make my daily commute tolerable.
Ammonia is used as an industrial precursor. For instance it's used to make fertilizer. Why dump it in Lake Michigan rather than purifying and selling it?
You left out the "Goat Sacrifice" event to promote "God of War II". And just about every recent public pronouncement of Ken "PS3 is too cheap" Kutaragi.
It's a bluff - if Microsoft went after say, Red Hat, they'd have to name the patents that were being "infringed". That would cause:
1) Many of the patents to be invalidated due to prior art. 2) OSS programmers to code around the "infringing" patents. 3) IBM (and it's huge patent portfolio) to come after Microsoft. Since
IBM has a huge vested interested in Linux. 4) Enormously BAD publicity for Microsoft, and call for actual enforcement
of the antitrust ruling against them.
It would be an extremely self-destructive move. By talking about infringement (but not doing anything), they cast doubt over the competition and even get some gullible corporations to cough up some cash (woah! free money!). It's a FUD play, fairly standard in Microsoft's (anti-) competitive playbook.
"All through the winter of '43 we had translators working, in joke-proof conditions, to try and produce a German version of the joke. They worked on one word each for greater safety. One of them saw two words of the joke and spent several weeks in hospital. But apart from that things went pretty quickly, and we soon had the joke by January, in a form which our troops couldn't understand but which the Germans could".
As a bunch of people said, create an account and get on source forge. You can work as part of a team OR you can develop your own project. If you choose the latter, pick something that interests you. Think of an application that you'd like to have. A tool that you could use. A software library that you wish was available. Then develop it and put it on source forge. You'll learn a lot and it will be a lot more enjoyable if it's something that you have a real interest in.
Denying them the ability to release for the console is silly
Companies spend years and millions of dollars promoting a brand image. Nintendo is the only pure-play console maker left and they've actively cultivated an image of a 'family friendly' gaming platform. This positions Nintendo as a safe choice for parents to choose their console and games as holiday and birthday gifts for their children. Nintendo is currently pursuing a 'blue ocean' strategy of going after casual gamers. This has led to the wildly successful DS handheld and Wii console and non-traditional games like Brain-age, Nintendogs, and Cooking Mama. But they've apparently decided that going after the 'adult' game market would damage their existing brand image for relatively small market gain. I think they made the correct business decision.
I'm using an old Shuttle SK43G (silver) which looks fine in the living room. A slightly more pertinent concern is finding a unit with a quiet fan for the living room.
I use a Windows based PVR that works with the Web site titantv.com Clicking on the 'record' button on the Web site sends a small file that a helper app converts to a Windows scheduler entry. I can't believe it would be that hard to adapt to Linux.
The Titan TV web site includes advertising and also does tracking. While personally, I don't care if anyone knows I watch StarGate and Myth Busters, privacy issues may be a concern for some.
Yeah, and Linux is "violating" 265 of their patents. Which they won't show us. Beginning to see a pattern here? They are the great all powerful Microsoft. We should just blindly accept what they say. Well, MS won't be the first company brought down by corporate hubris.
My understanding is that there was no love lost between Kutaragi and Stringer. Kutaragi had expected to be made CEO, but instead the board picked an outsider. Problems with the PS3 gave Stringer an excuse to ease Kutaragi out.
Bought a new video card so that I could enjoy the fantastic graphic experience of Doom 3. Which I'm sure would have been truly fantastic if any of the levels actually had lighting. And don't get me started on futuristic flashlight tech.

You have our gratitude!
Give him a hand!"

Has ESA actually launched any of the Galileo satellites yet? Last I heard the program was having management and budget problems.

Thirty Second Bunny Theatre had been condensing movies to thirty seconds for a while.

Yep, as in "Avast ye scurvy dogs! Hand o'er that chest o' third party ink cartridges! Arrrrrrrr!"
You hit the nail on the head. It's all about exercising total control of the distribution channel.
Glad they didn't use the words "Uwe Boll".
There are probably environmental factors going on here
Yet another problem caused by Global Warming.

The real (legal) test will come when someone puts up a PNG containing key Scientology documents or Windows Vista source code.
So, I'm wondering whose doing the demanding such that the legislators are responding
Follow the money.

the box may not looks so good in the living room

Uh...cite a source? I've searched the web and can't seem to find your source for Soviet shoot-down attempts

Heh, fact-rich materials that they won't show us
