    Even if steam or your internet connection is offline you can still play the game in offline mode. But if steam or your internet connection is down when you want to activate the game (to play it on another PC), then you are fucked.

    There are people running high resolution at 120Hz, to enjoy this type of graphics at insane fluidity you need to pay the price. Worth it? Depends who you ask.

    PC expensive? Not so much if you factor the game cost. After you buy 10-20 games I bet the consoles are more expensive.

    But anyway, you buy the hardware to play the games you like, and I don't like console games.

    Only if you like the games on the consoles. I don't.

    I'll avoid the whole graphical differences that PC can bring.

    Some like to waste their money on cars, booze, ..... I like to spend 400Eur on the PC every year.

    In the early day of the internet we didn't even bother with DHCP, all the PCs in the lab had static internet IPs.

    Linux and windows 95 with static internet IP4 address with no firewalls.

    Pull something like that now and you are fucked up in 2 minutes. :)

    Or just use a firewall / router to block access to your PC from the outside. And if you don't do this already you are a zombie (botnet).

    But I do agree with you, the extra features available through the service are most of the time not needed and I have no idea why they insist on forcing us to have this crap running in the background.

    Disclaimer: I'm a sysadmin so my experience may not relate to your wok.

    Think how much time it will take and multiply it by 3.

    But then again I have an incredible feeling for time. If I wake at night to take a piss I can tell what time it is (-/+ 10 min). And I decided to be without watch 20 years ago, yet I'm never late.

    You completely missed the point.

    Some of us also like to play games using the latest hardware. There are still a lot of games using UT3 engine that will run just fine on older hardware. There is no need for the whole game industry to wait for every single Joe to buy new hardware.

    Anyway, it's not like the game will rot or anything, it will still be there when you finally get a new machine and then you can play the game using your new PC at his best.
