Because the car metaphor was meant to be humor not literal. If you want to actually learn something, then read the gfs paper. Being a former googler, I can tell you first hand that gfs is truly unique. Consider for a minute that the google infrastructure is designed to run like a single system. When something breaks in California, systems in Ireland know about it and adjust things automatically until things are fixed in Cali. EXT3, NTFS, XFS, and even the new BTrFS can't do that.

Please. I work for Motorola AirDefense and our products are much more developed, much more thorough, and higher rated in the industry. Considering that Cisco *BOUGHT* Aironet, they did not create it and they certainly have not improved it. They tried to partner with us and we turned them down, because they admitted up front what they intended to do with us. They should just stick with what they know, what has got them this far. 7 vulnerabilities in the past 2 months on their Wireless Management products proves that they do not have what it takes to cut it in the Wireless market.

Personal experience is the only citation I have. Don't be blinded because you happen to use the products that they do well (i.e. Infrastructure and Backbone). But when it comes to R&D in other arena they severely lack what it takes due to their over-inflated ego. Have you ever dealt directly with a Cisco Sales rep?

Seriously must be kidding. This has got to be the most complicated way of doing this. I can't quote prices, but I can say that there are Home Networking routers with USB ports built in for just this purpose. Simply attach any external drive and mount it via the built in Samba FS. Personally I used a more expensive one by Secure Computing called the Snapgear 565 (this is the WiFi version). Basically it is a Netgear with Secure Computing's stateful firewall/ids built in. It has a USB port which happily mounts any recognizable file system that Linux/Unix supports. I use mine for backing up all my systems, including my MacBookPro with the new Time Machine. I can't believe some of the answers I have read in this ... You people such amatures.
