People, don't negativly moderate! Nobody really reads at 0 anyway. I mean, if a guy posts at 3 by default and it's a baaaaad post, then maybe, but not an AC! If you moderate good posts up rather than bad posts down, all the people reading at 3 or more will be better off, and I don't think many read at less than that (unless they're moderating).

qw (QuakeWorld) is still being played in both europe and the states. Tournaments are held once an year, maybe more... It's not a huge following but it definately exists... The Q1 physics were much different and it is still the 'fastest' game in the quake series (i think, maybe q3), so for some people it's much better.

Of course this is compeditive gaming, and not actually playing q1 start to finish with all the monsters. I'd think that the lighting might be something they'd rather not have because when you game compeditivly you don't want any distractions so you take the 'detail' of the game down dramatically as a trade off for speed. I'm not sure if this is relevant for q1 cause I would assume that most computer it's being played on right now could easily handle it (unlike my 486 which positivly GROANED).

If you try to run quake3 or any other 3D game under Linux, you'll run into the same things.

Never had ANY trouble setting up quake3 in linux. Not a GeForce either, a G400 Max. Couple of kernel options and a few tweaks to XF86Config and it was the first "application" I had working on my new Gentoo Linux install besides X

And since I'm already WAY offtopic, I'll mention that the Gentoo Linux install is long but worth it and not difficult at all. The instructions on the website are FANTASTIC. I have never seen better installation instructions in my entire life. I was a hardcore slack user for a while, and this came to be as a bit of a shock. System is nice too :P

Anyway, play q3! and to a lesser extent rtcw! Support your local Cache! Cause computer games are damn fun

Ok. Let's say there's a company out there who makes locks for doors. They release a new lock to the public with the statement that this lock will keep your door closed no matter what somebody tries.

Then some lockpick figures out how to pick the lock, and instead of using his knowledge to open doors, he tells everybody how to do it in the hope that the company will release a better lock.

Does the lockpick get arrested? Of course not. He's performed a public service, showing that these locks are, in fact, not undefeatable and forces the company to produce a better lock.

The DMCA is retarded because it targets the very people who are pushing for better products. DeCSS, for example, was SHIT. Say it with me, security through obscurity DOESN'T WORK. You know it and I know it.

Our recently arrested Russian friend figured out a way to crack Adobe's protection. What did he do? He wrote papers, did presentations. All in hope that Adobe would get a better protection scheme. What did he get?

    Arrested.

Your description tells me NOTHING about what it is. Reusable code is modular, which makes me think C++ or Java. Compound documents? Sounds like documents that combine different specifications.

So I may not be on the same technical level as you, does that make you better than me? Does that give you the right to be so bloody sarcastic? People are asking an honest question, don't be an ass about it.
