WHY? Because it's damn funny!! If you can laugh at the jokes made at MS (which I assume you do), then take a little...everyone on /. knows that Mac users give a lot of lip. Take a joke and enjoy it. This was better done than anything I've ever seen come from the Apple basher club.

  3. Pros/Cons of potential energy storage? on Batteries To Store Wind Energy · · Score: 1

As I read this about batteries, I'd love for someone with a lot more experience and knowledge to chime in on potential energy storage as opposed to these chemical/electrical? I would assume it to be a lot less expensive to build/install and maintain over the long term to have the wind (for example) pump water up a tower and then use gravity and water the water coming down to generate electricity. Seems like using the wind to create potential energy could be cheaper (and simple) if we had some ingenious concepts working on that. It would also be better for exporting to real polluting nations like India and China.

  6. Re:Still needs backlight on HP and ASU Demo Prototype Flexible Display · · Score: 1

That could work in theory. I imagine you would have to have micro-layers to channel the light from the source out to the pixls and have each column of pixels be in an incrimentally lower depth so as to be hit by a fresh beam of light and not obstructed by the light source from a column of pixels between it and the source.

You are basically getting to the point of creating a sheet of fiber-optics, if you take it this far. That would be better than a disruption of light. You shoot the light straight out at the viewer. Now we're talk big bucks!!

It looks like this is only the color filtering aspect of a display and not the light source. Still have to hold it up to a flashlight while you try to use it or hang it from your window. In these cases, it would be easier if it were not so flexible.

Now if they had this display providing light and being still thin and flexible, then you got the whole package.

OK. I like the idea and concept. Have any of you actually seen the wind farms in person? Have you seen the solar stations in person? Where on Hawaii are you planning to put up 1000 propellers and a sea of black-glass?

I can see the postcards coming out someday from the OLD DAYS when Hawaii used to be a beautiful landscape. It works on the mainland because we got Montana (where I live) and Wyoming. There is so much open land up here, you could power the whole US off the land up here and nobody would even see a single tower from the highway...but in Hawaii?
