Well said! I'm a big Opera fan (although I don't use the mail client) and I really don't understand the 'down' some people have on this most excellent browser. Perhaps he's a Microsoft whore.

Didn't I see an hilarious piece on You Tube recently about redesigning the Stop Sign? Well these things look the same! What a waste of time and money. I don't even need one...I know who I am.

  9. Death by Archimedes? on NASA Uses Rubber Ducks In Climate Study · · Score: 1

Hasn't anyone considered the low-lying Pacific islands that will get swamped by the rising sea level that all these floating/bouyant objects will cause. I calculate that one rubber duck displaces 0.1 cubic centimetre of water, so it will only need 2,000,000,000 or so to drown the islands of the Maldives.
P.S. I made the figures up, but I'm sure there's some sad clod out there who can do the math for real...

  13. Influence on IBM Threatens To Leave ISO Over OOXML Brouhaha · · Score: 5, Insightful

Surely IBM will have more influence over future ISO decisions if it remains a member. This is particularly true of a 'Big Player' like IBM who will carry a lot of clout.
'Outsiders' can be discounted far more easily as they are simply not part of the process, and could therefore be said to be irrelevant.
IBM should collaborate with other large firms (but presumably not Microsoft) to enforce due diligence in future decisions.

Nope, they don't run Linux, but they do have a shell which in this case is a tortoise/atmosphere interface. OK so it's hardware rather than software but it's suprising how much a tortoise and a computer have in common. If you've got a tired old Celeron like me, you'll even find they 'run' about as fast!

  17. Re:Whale of a time? on Japanese Begin Working On Space Elevator · · Score: 1

As your nickname is clearly derived from Frank Herbert, I assume that your comment re my post is ironic. I was just trying to make an amusing point about the (to me) deplorable way the Japanese view whales (ie as food) and extrapolate that into an appropriately space/sci-fi framework.
