What I don't get is why the government bothered to fight the suit in the first place. It's been going on for 6 years, which means it probably came up right around the time they were designing their "new" bills in the first place. They added color, watermarks and everything, why couldn't they have made some improvements so the blind could identify their own bills? It's a good, solid improvement, and if the lawyers weren't allowed to follow their first instincts, they could have fixed the bills without much fuss.

And don't say that they can use debit cards, that's a cop-out. Debit cards are not accepted everywhere, and are especially useless in the more personal interactions that people who are dependent on help are likely to encounter. Say you're blind...you'll probably have someone do your grocery shopping for you. Finding the price of apples on a chalk sign would be impossible, not to mention checking nutritional labels, or inspecting the produce. So you want to give them some money to do it? Better hope you filed it correctly into your wallet the last time. Count the change you got back? Good luck, you'd better hope your assistant is trustworthy, because it is absolutely impossible to differentiate one denomination from another without seeing it. Why don't you just give them your card and tell them your PIN?

My in-laws taught their daughter sign-language (not official American sign-language, just some made-up but consistent signs) when she was very small (somewhere between 9-12 months). She was able to express her basic needs relatively clearly - diaper-change, types of food and drink, and simple "hold-me" expressions. My sister-in-law said it made it much easier to work with her, and it diminished tantrums (whose tantrums, I never asked). I thought it might delay her actually learning the words, but it didn't. Part of it might have been that my in-laws are really great about talking to their kids. Also, seeing her "ask" for things and respond favorably when she got them made her seem less childish, and you would feel strange talking baby-talk to her. She's talking up a storm now, and she's a really smart kid, even if she has forgotten all of the signs.

His rhetoric and passion are undeniable. But what do we really need in a president? What is the exact value of experience? The fact of the matter is that none of the candidates have been president, so really, none of them have any experience. We're probably all too caught up with the need for experience, because when we apply for jobs or hire others, the only thing we can really look at to sort people are their records. But for a president, the ability to convince, inspire, and lead might not be wrapped up in a neat package of experience. Hillary, you look nice on paper, but Obama's message sings.

They've changed their envelopes before, and they'll have no problem changing them again. What I find interesting is that the US Post Office has suffered in silence for 2 years, charging up costs in something that could easily be remedied. If post office stock was available, that's the one I would drop.
