This volume follows the shareware model, absolutely.
I wonder if Reznor looked at the model for Doom / Quake and realized how fast it spread. I wonder if him and Carmack ever bounced the idea back and forth way back in the Quake days.
Correct. The xbox360 only sees FAT32 drives. I tried hooking up my USB drive formatted with NTFS to the 360, no luck.
The 360 does work with FAT32. Just keep in mind that you have a limit of 4GB per file. This forces you to split movie files into multiple chunks if you're looking to play movies from the drive.
I happen to have an Xbox 360 that does 720p perfectly fine to my HD set. The reason I was asking this, is because I actually am a clueless wanker who stayed up a little too late and ended up writing composite instead of component without proofing. Oops. Well, so much for actually getting my real question answered.
I've been looking at my share of 1080p televisions, however, I noticed that most of the TVs that are 1080p but only accept a 1080i signal. Since I wouldn't mind having a TV that doubles as a huge living room monitor, something that does 1080p/60 would be ideal.
But what would be even nicer than having a list of nice HD movies, how about a nice guide of HD sets that accept 1080p via composite input or VGA input?
After all, what good is having a 360 HD drive when you're only going to be watching the stuff at 720p or 1080i anyhow?
See, although this is fantastic for individual bands looking to make money, this still won't curb piracy, and it still won't address any of the primary music that people listen to in general.
What the slashdot crowd fails to see is that the majority of people out there are NOT aware of issues like DRM, and are NOT anti-RIAA. The RIAA still has a huge impact with stuff such as MTV and Radio, so it doesn't really change the model of how things work that much... it just chips away at it.
Music and Hollywood have the same mode of operation. There are a TON of talented actors out there who never make it to the big screen and never make million dollar salaries. In fact, many of these actors are more talented than the ones who are rich and famous. It's just the fact that the actors who are rich and famous are the ones that are in demand, and therefore can demand 10 million / movie. Much in the same way that Britney Spears could get 100 million for pushing pepsi, when there are thousands of women out there who look just as good, and can sing better than she can.
The problem is society in general. People want to see movies with specific actors. People want to listen to specific musicians, not bands that are just like them.
I believe his point was to expose kids to lesser viruses and bacteria earlier to train the immune system to handle the greater threats later in life.
All this fear of bird flu out there... If your body is well adept to handling a common form of flu, you'll be less likely to die when you run into a worse infection.
"Listen, if you kill all the germs around you and live a completely sterile life, then when germs do come along, you're not gonna be prepared.
And nevermind ordinary germs, what are you gonna do when some supervirus comes along that turns your vital organs into liquid shit?
I'll tell you what you're gonna do. You're gonna get sick, you're gonna die, and you're gonna deserve it cause you're fucking weak and you've got fucking weak immune system."
I can only see this working along with Microsoft's monopolist strategy:
Bundle this itunes clone in with windows vista
Have free music available from new artists for download (myspace style) through the service along with paid songs
Make sure the device they have under development is as easy to use as the ipod, and that their ad campaign makes them as stylish and trendy
Find a way to grandfather in support for the ipod for people who have ipod hardware already, but wouldn't mind transitioning software, not hardware
The odds of Microsoft successfully pulling this off successfully are practically zero. One of these key components are bound not to show up, so I imagine people will have a copy itunes installed on their machine along with whatever Microsoft has.
The machines I tried to get migrated to PHP5 back in 2004 included work on Jack In the Box, and Curves. They weren't smalltime clients by any means. I suppose the whole "mileage may vary" depending on who you're dealing with, when it comes to accepting hosts.
I ran into two separate situations. The first one, which involved working for a firm that had larger clientelle (like listed above). I had no dictation on the version that could be used, where the sites would be hosted, etc. Quite simply, I was required to code for a certain platform. No PHP5, no MySQLi, nothing.
At my current day job doing online newspaper software, I attempted to make a version of our online classifieds engine that was PHP5 only. One place that hosts many of our client's sites (Townnews) refused to upgrade to PHP5 for the same sort of migration woes that I talked about earlier. Townnews uses a massive server cluster which houses all their clientelle for high availability. After they refused to upgrade, I had to take out all my PHP5 specific code, or write wrappers for everything.
I also wrote an adult content management system in my spare time. It originally was made to be PHP5 only. There are a ton of hosts that WILL NOT run PHP5. I had dealt with a host a few months back that wouldn't turn off safe_mode on a dedicated machine either (even though I rationalized that safe_mode is going away in PHP6).
See, here's the thing you're assuming. You're assuming that everyone will bend to the will of a programmer or the system requirements of the software. They won't. Look at compiled software on Windows. Most of the executable files out there aren't made to run exclusively on Windows XP. Most of the time, they're made to run on Win98 or even 95 as well, even though I'm sure Microsoft would looove for everyone to be on XP or Vista soon.
I love PHP5 and would love nothing more than to have PHP4 go away. However, the code I write for my day job has to be as portable as possible, and run on as many platforms as possible (sadly, I need to support IIS and PHP together).
I think the difference between yours and my experience (apart from the guys at Apollo that wouldn't migrate over JITB) is that I'm doing vendor software. Nowadays I'm writing [not-so] crappy third-party apps (that are tested for PHP5) that my company in turn sells to clients. I get the feeling the code you've been writing is directly for that company (and them only). That's where the difference in power and control is on platform choices.
As for Warp99, that was my venture. I actually started a hosting company for the purpose of being able to host my smalltime freelance clientele myself. Why? Because I wanted to code stuff in PHP5 using XSL, and the most certain way to guarantee that (and save hours on the phone with other hosts) was to host the sites myself. Sad huh?
Seriously... Writing an open source project was my foot in the door for doing web development for a living.
Would you like some grapes? Bitches.

Anyhow, good show.
If you think about it, Milton was committing a terrorist act when he set the building on fire.
Sir, that would imply that CmdrTaco is a deity among men. I will not stand for such heresy!
I think the holyshit tag would be appropriate here.

It'll blow you for $1000, but your friend can't watch or else he has to pay $100.
Waylon Smithers, is that you? ;)
(Yes, I'm a bastard)
I wonder what that means about my demeanor...

Best of luck with your hangover.

Anyone?
If I surf craigslist for random crap, I'll be tempered in raw shit!
Somehow, I get the feeling it wasn't Linus who originally said that.
But HA! Look! Now I have a legitimate use for my nickname on here!
And since I'm on Slashdot, let me reword one of my more famous quotes:
Windows will always win because Linux is dumb!

Hmm... if she could be turned... she could become a powerful asset...
You really shouldn't link to pictures of yourself on Slashdot... The pending marriage offers will probably chase you off the site, now.
Besides, it kind of takes away from her being a level designer, game designer, and overall nice person.
But since Slashdot revolves around Self Indulging (tm), I might as well Karma whore and get noticed:

Look everybody! I can be "informative" too!

P.S: Doesn't Amazon mostly run Mason stuff now?
