Except its not basic hardware, the cheapest Mac Pro is $2300.
    For that 2300 you get
    the case
A motherboard supporting a single Quad Core CPU (default is 500 more with 2 Quad core CPUs)
    2 GB of RAM
    a 320GB HDD
    OSX

A comparable PC system would cost maybe 1500 from a quick run through of parts on Newegg. But lets say he didn't want to purchase a quad core CPU, that would knock off a few hundred more. It sounds like he wanted something similar to a macbook (spec wise) in a case that can have upgrades added. Not a workstation.

A gun is a tool. Guns are not evil. They can be used to do evil things, so they are outlawed because it makes it easier to do evil things.

You can say the same about knives. They make it easier to kill people as well.

Or pencils. Or cars. They're all just tools. That make it easier to kill people or do bad things.

He is raising the point, that someone intending to break the law in an act such as a mugging, they wouldn't care if they were breaking another law at the same time.

If knives/guns are outlawed, you can't use a knife/gun to defend yourself from someone attempting to mug you using a knife/gun.

I feel the same way about email. I keep my email application closed except when I feel like emailing people. I don't have email so people can email me whenever they feel like it. Its so I can email them. And when I send emails, I don't even check what people have sent me.

Hopefully, the people I email don't work the same way. Then every one would turn off their phones^w email and no one would ever be able talk to each other.

It is obviously your choice, but if you think about, why would you have a cell phone at all? If its there for your own convenience, and all of your friends phones are for their convenience, and you don't expect them to answer when you call. The only reason you would have for a cell phone is to call businesses.

Or I suppose you could arrange phone calls over email....
