It is in their business interests to threaten torrents of content that people have permission to download (e.g., Linux, independent musicians, movie projects like "Sintel." The copyright cartels business model is based upon "you want to publish your stuff? We own the channels. Sign over the rights to us and become our serf." Having an independent distribution vector threatens that business model.
I am really not understanding this. We use Win32API in Wine. The reason being that it is just an API and not Windows code. But the kernel API is different? Is this some sort of extension of the "statically link" clause in the GPL?
they patent a sensor that responds to a whack? Fine.
They patent the idea of whacking the phone? Not fine. Patents are supposed to cover IMPLEMENTATIONS, not ideas.
I am not a lawyer, but it sounds like this foreman was acting as an expert witness, one whom the jury was forced to listen to and one side could not question or rebut or even question.
Chromatic abberations are probably going to be a mess. As soon as I saw the summary, I said to myself "they are probably using an absorptive layer to do the phase changes." I read it, and... yup... gold. This means it will respond very strongly to wavelength. However, if they are trying to make lenses for lasers, it will probably do just fine.
Novell already said that Linux does not infringe on UNIX copyrights. It would be pretty hard for someone to buy the copyrights with that out there and then turn around and say "oh... wait... we bought it from people who said Linux didn't violate UNIX Copyrights... but after we bought it we changed our minds."
My office has an adjustable, motorized desk. When I work I can sit, or stand. And switching back and forth is good.
However, please note that you should not maintain any posture static for an extended period of time. Make sure to take micro- and macro breaks, and walk away from the desk every once in a while. This is critical if you do long hours. I would recommend looking into an ergo timer such as the open source Workrave.
No country "admits" they made the software. The linked article is to another slashdot article quoting a washington post article with "anonymous" sources. That's pretty far from "a country" admitting they made the software.
The reasoning is this: If you have a false positive, you just take another, more expensive, slower test to confirm. If you have a false negative, someone will die.
Yes, a resonator is an essential feator of a laser. The acronym is a bit of a misnomer. A light amplifier itself does not make a laser. A Laser must make coherent light, and that happens through 1) a gain medium and 2) an oscillator.
You would need some pretty strong magnets, I would think. Strong magnetic fields can be very hazardous to people with pacemakers.

You could have to wear special boots?

Matthew 13. Plus He was always saying how his teachings would be scorned and rejected and people would be persecuted for believing in them.
I would totally have to disagree with this.
I learned my logical thinking skills from programming.

Daryl and his cronies, who made a shitload of money while The SCO Group burned.

Yahoo is an OpenID provider.
I always want to be able to make a fast exit from whereever I am.
Because fish need porn too.

Anything that doesn't get them more money, right or wrong, deserved or not, is "theft" in their eyes.
Remember when they said selling used CD's was theft, and they were owed a cut of used sales?
Just a guess, but maybe they want the unit to remain secretive?
All the better to serve the MPAA/RIAA.
Not watching commercials is NOT violation of copyright.
"Oh of course."
Up yours, BSA.

Oregon has so much hydroelectric power available that Mr. Burns' shoddy Nuclear plant would never have been built... let alone survive.
It's basically the legislature trying to make entropy illegal....
