  1. use hardware addersses with that many machines. on Server Naming Conventions? · · Score: 1

    Give them the same name as their hardware address. Sure, it will be ugly at first, but there are some great benefits. Setting up routers and debugging networking toubles will be a breeze since most swithches label the machine attached to each port by hardware address, not IP. Maintaining dhcp tables will also be much easier. Another benefit is the ability to tell which platform you are using just by the HW address, since each NIC manufacturer has their own block of MAC address space.

    Also, I bet Sony's hardware division would just love it if everybody's everything had to be redesigned to support DRM (the M stands for mDenial) because it would remove many competitors and older (yet better in a price/performance comparison) products out of the market.

    Good, because here's a script I wrote that factors any prime number in constant time:

    print "Please enter a prime number";

    chomp($prime = <STDIN>) ;

    print "The factors of $prime are $prime and 1";

    Of course, you really DO need to input a prime for it to work.

  5. This review is bullshit on Two Approaches to the Next-Generation Desktop · · Score: 1

    Tom's hardware is completely shafting AMD and the benchmarks are horribly misleading. Look at marks for the AMD XP 2000+ vs. the P42200. The Athlon kicks it's ass! Rating for rating, AMD is clearly on top if you look at the comparable chips in the middle of the chart.

    Also, the 2666mhz P4 is using rambus's 533mhz rimms-a product that is essentially vaporware at this point since Tom's is apparently the only place with a chipset for it. But look! The athlon is using DDR 2100!!!! I mean, seriously, what the fuck? There is absolutly no excuse for not using DDR 2700 except to provide misleading benchmarks. PC-333 ram exists! Look it up on pricewatch, you can get some today, 533mhz RIMMs won't be available for months!

    I think we should petition slashdot to give Tom's Hardware it's own catagory so I can just block it like I did to Katz.

Slap some efficient electric motors on the propellors and you would be able to provide 100% uptime for a completely mobile platform to mount uber lasers on. Now imagine a beowulf cluster of these flying death squadrons equiped with eschelon/carnivore style listening equipment that has the distributed capacity to monitor, filter, digitize, and catagorize anything that the govornment had the slightest interest in.
