  1. Re:Ipod Touch fulfills that function and many more on When Internet Radios Get Affordable · · Score: 1

Exactly, I'm a paying pandora user and have many other internet radio stations that I use regularly. The answer to this is my Android phone, there are multiple apps for internet radio (shoutcast and others) and there is a dedicated Pandora app. With a touchscreen, and a very close price (i got my phone for $200 Ebay), i see no need for a device like this.

  2. Already a DOTA replacement on Heroes of Newerth Open Beta About To Start · · Score: 2, Interesting

Not trying to advertise but League of Legends is a very solid clone of DOTA. There is no Linux (sorry slashdot) but it is fairly well balanced.

  3. No UI programming on The Best First Language For a Young Programmer · · Score: 1

My personal preference would be visual basic. I know its not as good as some others, but it is very simple to make something tangible. Trying to teach a young person to program the UI is only going to detract from the art of programming. For this reason i would advise a language with a drag and drop ui. Also my Uni teaches Visual Basic to the IT majors as their first language (so it really cant be very hard).

  4. Too Bad on Jumpgate Evolution Delayed · · Score: 2, Informative

Being a college student I was looking for a game to suck away my summertime (when im not working), so i was going to pick this up as soon as it released. I haven't actually been excited about a mmo since i used to play WoW. Being that this game will not be released during summer i will likely never pick it up, as i will be busy with school when this releases. I really hope that the late launch will not effect them, but assume they will be fine if they release around christmas.

  5. Former wow addict on How To Help a Friend With an MMO Addiction? · · Score: 1

I used to play WoW with all of my extra time, except for work and sleeping. I realize your friend is worse off than i was, but there are two major steps i had to take to quit. First the account needs to be gotten rid of, many sites will buy accounts, this will not allow him to as easily go back. Second you must find a way to fill his time.I forced myself to hang out with friends and also do more schoolwork when i had it. Its stil a hard road to not be tempted back in, but as long as these two criteria are met it will be much easier to stay off.

  6. Mobile = bluetooth on Bluetooth Versus Wireless Mice · · Score: 1

I have used multiple mice, from high-end logitech gaming mice to the cheapest available bluetooth mouse. I prefer a wired mouse for desk use, but for a portable platform such as a macbook i would definitely recommend a bluetooth mouse. In my experience they have not been laggy or jumped. Also you dont realize how annoying the dongle is until you have to deal with it while on the road.

  7. Unskippable Cutscenes on What Spoils a Game For You? · · Score: 1

Seriously game makers, is it hurting your game at all if i am allowed to skip the cutscene. I your game involves half hour long cutscenes (metal gear solid) i expect to be able to skip them. The fact that i am forced to watch them on each play through means i will likely not ever play it again or even finish in some cases.

  8. Goddamnit on Senate Approves 4-Month Delay In Digital TV Switch · · Score: 0, Redundant

Seriously senate, wev all seen the commercials and tv specials on our local news about this switch. And all of us in the tech know have been ready for months. Just do the switch and force those who were too lazy, to finally get their converter boxes.

  9. Re:I wish... on Apple Declares DRM War On Sneaker Hackers · · Score: 2, Interesting

Its only sort of hacking, but i had to mention how open Nintendo has been with their DS system. By buying a mod chip you are basically allowed to build any type of program you want, with no opposition. If you need an example simply look at the ds homebrew community that has sprung up, you will find an almost completely open platform ready to be modded.

  10. Re:Courts are Public on Nonprofit Group Sends Filesharing Propaganda To Students · · Score: 1

Very true, due to some unfortunate events i had to go to court a while ago (Underage drinking, no big deal). It was an eye opening experience for me and i will now be much more careful when i drink.

  11. Re:Lack of demos. on Game Developer Asks To Hear From Pirates · · Score: 1

this is a good point, and is one of the reasons xbox live is so successful(demos of almost all games). But this is much more difficult with pc games as as the file sizes are often huge due to often needing to have the entire game engine, even if only to play a few minutes.

  12. TV used to be so relaxing on Consumer 3D Television Moving Forward · · Score: 3, Interesting

When I sit down at my computer i am engaged and am accomplishing something(most of the time), but when i sit down to watch TV i want to be completely relaxed and just watch. If this means i will have to be more aware of my TV then im not for it. Also my TV is often on in the background, which means I'll have to wear the special glasses all the time which isn't gonna happen.

  13. Interesting on Japanese Government to Regulate Online Communication · · Score: 1

How can this possibly happen, by blocking piracy, blogs, and youtube i would have no reason to go online
Just a question, can this ban or monitor IRC?

  14. Portable Firefox on Student Given Detention For Using Firefox [UPDATED] · · Score: 1

The kid may still be at fault for not obeying what the teacher requested, but he may have been running a portable version of firefox. There has been a portable version available since 1.x . Also the kid might have changed the .exe name to foxfire which would account for the concieved misspelling (used to do that all the time to play quake on network, just named it something harmless like iexplore.exe)
