Because, if I recall correctly, Microsoft hasn't revealed any of these patents until now. They've basically gone: "We're Microsoft. We're huge. You KNOW we have a warchest full of patents, and it would be an awful shame if something happened to your business that kept you from making any profit due to these patents. We can make this little problem go away, just give us [X]"
These companies don't want to put up the fight, and believe it's probably going to be cheaper, and easier just to pay Microsoft their protection money.
Now that these patents are out in the open, Microsoft licensees may just be rethinking their stance.
fad phase? Tell that to Samsung, the largest mobile phone producer in the world who uses AMOLED screens in all of their top of the line devices. Many people won't even buy a device without an AMOLED screen anymore...
More polygons does not mean more work for artists at all. 3D models are created in full resolution and poly count reduced to fit the poly budget of the machine they are targeting. In fact, it might actually mean less work for artists due to less optimization needed. Even 2D sprite games with large item counts (Diablo II, etc) are now created in 3D and rendered as 2D sprites to save on time.
How so? Mars is red because of Iron Oxide. Oxide = Oxygen. Mars is similar to earth in basic composition. Just need a way to extract oxygen from rust reliably and efficiently and I see no reason that it would be impossible. Plants can also be genetically engineered to behave differently or to tolerate certain environments better. There is no reason at all to say that this is impossible. Improbable, maybe. Impossible...not at all.
iCloud for music is excellent. Especially with the service that scans your MP3 stash and allows you to download AAC files on the go. This functionality is something Android lacks
Actually, Google has Google Music which does basically the same thing. You just select the files/playlists, etc for "offline use" and it caches them to your device. Or you can just stream it while on the go. Google Music has been available for...uh, 6ish months now.
Also, Google+ auto uploads any taken pictures to your G+ account, set to private, so you can share them at-whim. So, Android has that feature too...again, has for months.
Actually, the reason the nightly development changelog and builds had stopped was because of the kernel.org breach. Development has resumed at an even faster pace and nightlies, as well as changelogs are available on a daily basis again. CyanogenMod is not "all but dead" as claimed...
If anyone bothered to read the patent, you'd notice one major difference: the patent is for an 'Absolute' pointing system, as in the cursor would be directly where the remote points (like a lightgun).
The Wii uses a relative system, relative to the lights on the sensor bar. You often find the cursor is nowhere near where the remote points, specially near the edges of the screen. The only way to get the system to work as an 'Absolute pointing device' would be to have the exact size of display that the Wii is tuned for, and that is far from the only size of TV the Wii works on.
If the iPhone never existed, Android wouldn't be where it is today. It would be more of a blackberry clone. -- so I have to agree. Even secondhand, Steve Jobs is responsible for the direction the market has taken.
#1 is providing protection to Google. By letting Yahoo/Bing become the default search engine on some devices, you can argue that it doesn't have a monopoly across Android. With the recent push by Microsoft and Apple to get Google into an antitrust suit, they don't need to change this at all.
#2 is likely to happen. Even more likely to happen is that Motorola will start building reference designs for other manufacturers to build off of. Saves everyone money, gets more Android devices out there quicker and easier.
#3 Not going to happen. There is already enough fragmentation without a dumbphone OS entering the fray as well.
#4 This is pretty much implied with the purchase of Motorola. These companies don't openly communicate threats, there's enough silent communication going on right now between Microsoft, Apple, and Google.
Actually, jailbreaking is called such because under iOS you have to break out of a CHROOT JAIL. You don't jailbreak an Android because there is no chroot jail to break out of. It's called rooting because you're doing that...obtaining root.
HTC devices are supported, you just need to be running an AOSP based ROM. In the stock sense-based ROMs, HTC uses a different (incompatible) bluetooth driver.
Most games recently just kind of suck and rest upon the shoulders of innovative graphics. This does not make me hopeful for the future of gaming.
However, if this technology isn't a scam like I suspect, I still welcome it. It could change the face of computer graphics as we currently know it forever.
Look at the *entire spectrum this time* -- The visible spectrum is just a small portion of the overall spectrum hitting the earth. The energy over the wider spectum produces more energy when accounting for the entire spectrum.

CyanogenMod 9. They're skipping 8 because 8 was supposed to be for Honeycomb.
A = Alpha
B = Beta

In soviet russia...blah blah blah...

Just take a look at zget's UID and post history. It's quite obvious he's one of the clowns sent here by either Facebook, Apple, or Microsoft.

with WiFi APs/Cell Towers/MAC addresses.
The java performance myth disappeared long ago dude.
Countersuing IS using them. Countersuing is a defensive move and has nothing to do with patent trolling, troll.
Java has absolutely nothing to do with javascript.
And then every purchased market app suddenly goes byebye...
Back when Blu-Ray players first came out, that wasn't the case at all. You could either buy a $300 Blu-ray player, or a $300 PS3...
The other problem is that the tablet market was created out of nowhere by Apple less than 18 months ago
Hey, at least it's Android 50.0 and not Android 360.
