The music industry is suing a sovereign government in a court of law because of a law that does not exist ? What next, sue voters for not ensuring their revenue stream... hang on... that is what they ARE doing ?!!?
So in their eyes I can be guilty for not successfully electing a government that ensures their income !!!
I am painting it every which way to try and make sense of this...
I wish we could outlaw lawyers but considering that they would be enforcing that law, it may end the universe H2G2 style and replace it with something more bizarre.
1. Some "criminal" bot net grabs my private data. 2. Microsoft infiltrates bot net. 3. Microsoft hands the data to government in real time. They are not responsible on what the data contains. 4. Government has my data legally ?
Does this not sound like the police getting criminals to do their dirty work ? What would be the intensive to bring down the bot ? How do I know who set up the original bot ? Should I trust Microsoft ? Should I trust the government ?
A 30 year old working device has gone through the natural selection and survived. There is a scrap heap somewhere of devices that where made 30 years ago that didn't last a week.
Modern devices are a lot more reliable, but picking the 30 year survivor in it's first month is not very easy.
NYT could simply post their articles behind a pay wall, or setup a robots.txt or only publish their articles in print.
They are simply struggling with a new reality. Once portrait painters made a mint and wealthy families got them selves a portrait every year. That job moved onto photographers. Then it moved onto home cameras and film and now it is gone, eroding every step of the way. Now all that is left is the Santa photo at Christmas. The do some product placement by including the shopping center logo, you pay a small fee, and you walk away with a photo of your precious pulling at a fake beard.
It sucks to be them, but if they don't innovate and adapt somebody else will.
Israel having nukes is a threat to the US because that pushes Iran to get nukes. In fact the whole conflict in the middle east is a threat to the US and the west, but we may be sacrificing our security for the sake of Israels security.
You sound great, but the US will be considered m ore and more of an ass hole by more and more of the world. You guys where "awesome" at Iraq for killing hundreds of thousands on a lie and we "the rest of the world" did not forget. Please stay in your America or wear a Canadian flag on your backpack when you travel.
You conflict, wouldn't you help avoid war if you waste as much petrol as possible ? If I stop using petrol, I will create make Iran's oil redundant and hence make the war more likely.
If I can download the song from youtube, am I breaking the law. The whole game is that it is now up to the artist to find a motive to make music, and selling copies is no longer viable in today's technology. He/She may have to do product placement in his songs or perform live music. There was a time that with little effort you could exploit your talent and make millions and screw teenage groupies and snort a truckload of blow. This is no longer the case. There are a lot of talented people such as poets and painters and sculptors and kids party clowns and magicians that cannot make millions any more. The singers are slowly joining that group. It is sad for them, but the world moves on... there is no stopping it, maybe they can slow it down but it is game over. The new generation is learning a different value for music.
In the context of Music, I love google music. I upload my songs, I clean up the metadata on line, I upload the album art work and it just works.
My android phone instantly gets the updates and correction. If I loose the phone, my next one has the whole library before I leave the store. I guess Google TV has the same effect, for the desktop. I hope a desktop client comes out.
It is not quite what you are asking, but it may be part of what you are asking.
Yes... their is the Android OS as well as Google apps, which are amongst the most popular. Google have managed to opensource the OS, but stay in relative control considering the full experience requires the Google apps.
Now if you where the only person using it, that would be pretty good but if everybody needed to use it on their way to Montreal, that would be a mitey big que.
I am sick and tired of every teacher givging excuses why they are home by 3:30 and have such excessive holidays. The are the ultimate think of the children meme in pushing for pay increases and reduced work for them selves.

Wait until Apple makes an LCD TV... it will be prettier, more expensive, and have an Apple logo on it which won't glow except to let you know that it's off. It will also have a single sheet of laser cut something or other somewhere on it, and probably laser pin holes so you can't see the LEDs unless they're on.

-- Terry
</quote>
Yes, and then Apple will sue every LCD TV manufacturer for copying their form.
Israel developed nuclear weapons and nobody is doing anything about it. We are all OK about it. Iran is trying the same thing, and we are not OK with it...
O look... an elephant in the corner over there, did you notice that ?!?
What if you create something, and I add to your creation. Then you demand to delete your work, does that mean you have power on my creation ? Imagine what that would do to open source...
Some of the most important stuff is the propulsion system and the aerodynamics which are both copyable, the sensors would be handy and if they publish everything they find on the net, that will get the CIA nervous.
Amm... actually they did... we joke about the SJ distortion field, but it is a real event. I know of somebody that works in an apple store, and he so believes in apple he speaks as if he works in a church.
In the same context Steve Jobs effectively hasten his own death by believing he can think him self out of cancer.
Group think is a wonderful thing, from pearl harbor to a couple of chicks telling each other they have beautiful eyes nobody is too big not to suffer from it.
Even better considering that apple was caught flogging off their patents to a patent troll, hoping to hurt as many "competitors" as possible. Every article written will hopefully include all the stories together to paint the apple darling in a new light.
What is the business sense for IBM to do so, or the patent department ? We as a society should insist the patent business gets cleaned up dramatically because innovation is getting bogged down. Soon I would not be able to make a toast because it is somewhat rectangular with rounded edges and flat.

So you went out on your first date, don't be so dramatic.

So if every song ever made is available in youtube, and I can download a youtube song as an MP3 ... then how did I pirate the music ?
In that case the law in broken when you are convicted. Until then I can download all I want

No the shouldn't ... we should not depend on laws for this stuff, it is such a slippery slope.
.. it is no longer mine.
If I publish something
On the other hand, I want to know what you know about me.

Or making this the first step. IN the next patent, 35 USC 287(c)(1) will be excluded
