    BMI is a bogus and misleading measure. Try percent body fat instead.

    for the vast majority of people who aren't body builders it's fine and it's easier to calculate than body fat percentage.

    Everything is copyrighted by default. Online papers might want ad revenue from clicks, but how on earth will I reach them if it's never linked anywhere(assuming I don't know their url off the top of my head)

    If nobody cares then why are they taking the pictures? Perhaps for popular tourist attractions it makes sense, but what legitimate use would someone have for viewing a residential neighborhood? I don't know whether it should be illegal but I can see why people wouldn't want their private residence plastered on the internet in an easily searched database.

    To give parents who don't have time to play video games a general idea of the type of content in them so they can make a somewhat informed decision about whether they want their children to play the game. If nothing else it certainly wasn't made so the government could fine children $25 unconstitutionally.

    why would MS open source their software? If they open source it that means it can be ported and people will be more likely to leaving windows if they can use their windows apps on another operating system. Open source code does nothing to benefit MS especially when 99.99% of their customers don't even know what source code is. Sure it would be nice, but I just don't think it stands a snowballs chance in hell.

    botnets are for people with little computing power to try and take over a bunch of computers for more power. The government already has super computers and ungodly bandwidth plus we control the root of the internet. Why waste cash on botnets when we could easily DOS anyone or just delete them from the internet altogether

    I think round 1 was when google set the stipulations and then decided not to put a reasonable bid on the auction. Even though I would like for the spectrum to be neutral I definitely think it was a sucker punch on google's part

    even MS can use linux. They'd only violate the gpl if they took code from an existing gpl'ed project and made their own without releasing the source.

    XP users will still get security fixes until 2014. By then MS will probably have put out windows 8 and everyone will be complaining about that. Just like everyone complained about 95, 98, ME, 2000, xp, and vista when they came out, and yet continued to buy MS's operating systems.

    Be realistic 13 years of support is amazing long, and if that's not enough XP for you there isn't any rule that says you can't continue to use it after they stop patching it.

    Although the only way for him to become president is for McCain and Huckabee to drop dead. and Romney, obama, hillary, and Gavel. Face it when most voters think Ron Paul they think insane and would probably vote for just about anyone else. Love him or hate him Ron Paul never stood a snowballs chance in hell and this announcement should come has no shock to anyone.

    The idea that Torvalds is a rebel leading in the fight for freedom against the powers that be never really had any solid grounding. Linus never really cared about freedom and has said before that you should use the best tool for the job whether proprietary or not, and He sees nothing wrong with digital rights management. He's a good developer but he really only speaks for the kernel. Besides no one could possibly speak for all linux users because no matter how much everyone tries to call it a single community there are vast differences in what everyone wants(which is why there are nearly as many distros as there are users)

    aren't they violating the be fruitful and multiply clause? I think the catholic church should focus on religion, every time the pope tries to tell the world and it's governments what they should do in their personal lives they just end up looking backwards and foolish.

    I doubt there will ever be "The year for the linux desktop." with each year linux's market share continues to increase. I imagine users will continue to trickle toward linux but i doubt we'll ever see the day when it breaks 50% market share. The article is of course common sense. The problem is: hardware vendors won't support linux because it doesn't have users, and users won't go to linux until it plays their crap, then hardware vendors won't support linux because it doesn't have users, and users won't go to linux until it plays their crap, and hardware vendors won't support linux because it doesn't have users, and users won't go to linux until it plays their crap, and harware vendors...... this is the vicious cycle that linux will need to get out of if it ever wants to be treated like a desktop OS. Granted it's come a long way, but it's still got a long way to go.

    They were Open source to begin with(with the exception of their windows port) they just went to GPLv3. They probably opened the windows source because they knew someone would probalby just fork off and port the gpled linux code over to windows anyway.

    I know a lot of people are against cloning human embryos extracting the stem cells and then aborting them. So how on earth could splicing humans cells with animals, harvesting it, and then aborting it possibly be construed as better? Personally I don't care either way, but I can't see how you could be happier with cross species embryos than with good old cloning from a moral standpoint

    This won't work for all of the above reasons. I think parents are going to have to learn that if they want their children to not do bad things on the computer that they are going to have to monitor their children themselves. There simply isn't anyway to pull anything like this off without some major governmental privacy violations. So I think we should stop wasting millions and let parents raise their children. I'm sure parenting children is a tough job, but I think it's one best left to those that made them.

    The cost of vista and office 2007 are pretty significant without much benefit over what's already out there. Vista doesn't have any extras that I imagine would be beneficial for an education environment unless they're running some really old crap. If they switch to something like open office, which is a fine word processor, their students can work on their documents at home for free without buying MS Office.

    I doubt that, quite a few linux boxes are used for servers which most people take special care to keep secure. It also may be a little bias, but I think most linux users are more likely to get updates since installing linux is a conscious choice and they probalby have a little more knowledge than the average Windows

    Since the XO was based upon Open source software they can't make her sign any agreements not to use the software. About the only thing they could stop her from doing would be using their hardware, and since she intents to make laptops even cheaper she probably won't be using any of that knowledge. Well that's my non-legal background guess anyway.

    ya any modern windows version will eat up most of the 1gig hard drive. not only that but I imagine with it's processor of about 400mhz and only 256mb or ram I doubt that it will run smoothly with windows(I imagine it doesn't even run that smoothly with linux)
