yeah, i installed freebsd on some spare space on my hd. and it has the same issues with the my geforce that linux did before i installed the closed source nvidia drivers on my machine. i was ready to jump ship to another card because my video would go bonkers after a random amount of time. forcing me to reboot to fix it. felt a lot like windows.
so pretty much, till i either have another machine, or there are nvidia bsd drivers... i won't be using it much. which is to bad.
question: how many of you belive that linus can't spell his own last name?

XFree 4.0.3 Released

i upgrade whenever i do a new install. i hand install the binararies, and install the nvidia drivers. i just don't like how most distro's package x (dependancies of xdm?!?)
isn't one of progeny's big things that everything they're doing will be released back to the world in gpl? so that if wanted, it could be added to debian proper? (everything code wise i mean, not support of course)
i'm guessing they just a *few* more packages to worry about than just mozilla. the galeon homepage has some good mozilla 0.8 debs if you want to keep them in your package tree.
"If you join Debian mailing lists, demanding support for Progeny, you won't be pleased with the results. If you go on Debian IRC channels and demand support for Progeny, you'll get flamed."
if you join ANY irc channel and DEMAND support for somthing, you'll probably get flamed. but, the truth of the matter is, most of the system will be debian. same with storm that i've used in the past. if they're smart and don't totally alter the structure, so that they only add to debian, instead of alter.
but, i have a sneaking feeling that, if you came into #debian, or the mailing lists and asked politely for help. that you would still get flamed for using somthing "watered down", and not as "hardcore" as debian.
i'm a debian user, i love it, i recommend it to all my friends. but, the attitudes that you get from a lot of debian users really suck.
not sure where i was going with all that. but, i think you can expect to actually have a fair amount of help from debian users work just fine. like, howto configure an ethernet card, or how apt works, or similar questions.
because *obviously*, we don't deserve it. i do a working mans 40 hour week, and make under $11k a year... *obviously* i'm just slime.
i say tax the rich. i say, if i'm rich, go ahead and tax me, i'd deserve it. and i'd still be better off. but, this is a joke. i don't care at all how many hours a paycheck i get. because you know what? the more hours i work, it matters very little because of taxes. so, whats the point? i still get enough to pay rent, and dsl no matter what i do.
Who's definition of 'dangerous' do we use, and who watches the watchers? i'd say the police are the dangerous ones. i've nearly been hit with a dumb fuck cop on a motercycle trying to hit people at a protest. this just isn't ok. and it will be used to hurt people who have done no wrong.
ok, so, there's an engine. it controls the framework of the game, rendering things, etc etc....
that engine can handle pretty much any texturing and modeling that you want to throw at it (within reason of course, it is only a game). but, it could be used to make things look like anything.
if things are cartoonish, that was a choice of the developers of the game, not the developers of the engine itself.
i even took my laptop with me when i visited a friend in seattle, so i could play alpha centauri. just TRY not to be adicted...
p.s. it's been coming for linux forever. when is it gonna be here...

Kernel 2.4.2 Released

the linux kernel is in a constant state of development. people know exactly what they are getting into if they choose to use a 2.4.0 release. there were no promises made that it was the most stable thing on the planet, or that it would have no bugs. it's never even finished.
windows 2000 is a finished, final product. they said, hey, we're done. this to me seem a promise, that it is finished. i understand of course that nothing is ever bug free, and patches are expected. but.... i doubt that microsoft tells you, 'hey, this is still under development, expect major bugfixes all the time!'.
"hello, I love you, won't you tell me your name"
those are the lines from a doors song. sorry dude. and that was a fairly weird song. much more than you make it out to be.
as far as the beatles go... their early stuff is fairly wish washy. but, at least it's music. now, there's no way you can say the white album is anything like the current crop of chart topping crap. well, you can say that. but, you'd be a fool.

weird, my month old nightly build crashes every few days. but, thats it. i remember mozilla used to be a mess, plain and simple. now, i don't use anything but mozilla, and it's derivitives (skipstone, galeon). mozilla is still a memory hog, but, the pages are much nicer than in ns 4.7, with css, and the fonts are readable.
the 10/10 build broke css. the 10/11, and 12 builds have it. M18, doesn't. it doesn't make sense. wouldn't they want to include that in a milestone?!?!
note: for anyone who is complaining about CSS stuff, grab the 2000/10/12 nightly. it has it. i just went back to it after trying the milestone.
Amazing books. thats the first thing i thought of when i saw this article. if you are intrerested in the subject, definitly worth a read. well, maybe not blue. but, the first 2 are great reads, belivable science, and a good take on the political ramifications i belive.
well, i am a newbie still, and i sure do compile things, so i think you MAY want to reconsider that pretty stupid statement. i'm sure i'm not the only one.
