Actually, no, this is not automatically legal. For instance, in South Carolina, filming porn is illegal. Luther Campbell from 2 Live Crew was arrested a couple of years ago for it. It violates the laws regarding "OFFENSES AGAINST MORALITY AND DECENCY".
Why oh why do you always find it so freakin necessary to point to the NY Times article?!?!? A simple search on Google News turned up 4 different non-login necessary sites with (essentially) the same freakin article!!

Another problem I see here that no one has yet pointed out is with the voters themselves. If it was truly a problem that people were voting in the wrong districts/precincts, then that means they would have been voting for the wrong LIST of candidates.
Were voters walking into the election so blindly that they didn't even notice THE WRONG PEOPLE on the ballot?!?! I know it's probably on the difference in something like "Sanitation Commisioner" or some crap, but come on! No wonder the school boards here in South Carolina are filled with people who have last names beginning with a letter before M. They're alphabetically the first people on the ballot!
While it's important to keep the write-up suitable for manager types who want quick overviews, please also remember to include at least references to places where I can find more technical information.
Sometimes some of my biggest battles in adopting OSS in the gov't/DoD are convincing my fellow engineers. These are old school engineer types who are very scared of change. Even if it sounds reasonable, there better be a damn good reason to change to something new, especially something as "untested" as OSS.
Very good point. Also consider that beer is alcoholic, and alcohol causes problems with hormone levels. Lower testosterone levels (specifically T3) lead to higher fat cell retention. One beer can lower testosterone levels for up to 24 hours.
So not only are you putting something into your body that's not good for it nutritionally, you're adding something to it that encourages the body to keep it around.
Admitting to myself that I have ADHD was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. It's really not as bad as most people think.
What you're talking about sounds exactly what I was going through before I did some research on the topic. What most people don't realize is that, as an adult, the proper approach to solving ADHD is medication AND behavioral. Without the behavioral approach, the medication will eventually just be a crutch that only gets you by for a couple of hours.
Do yourself a favor. Go see your physician. Tell him exactly what you've told us. Ask for an ADHD evaluation, and make sure it's being done by a psychologist that specializes with ADD/ADHD. Even if you don't get medicated, the psychologist can help you work on your attitudes and habits to solve the difficulties you are having with concentration and effectiveness. As an adult, you are much better equiped to make the changes necessary to change.
Realize that while the Seven Habits are good, what is best is WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. And you can only learn that through trial and error. Seeing what work for you and what doesn't.
It's all about calories. It's simple: If you take in more than you burn per day, no matter what the source, you gain weight.
Actually, no... there's a lot more to it than that. There is insulin, and how the levels affect the way your body handles storage of fat and use of calories. There are also hormones, which can be affected by the types and amount of food you eat, such as leptin.
Testosterone Magazine has everything you could ever need to know about getting in shape and staying that way. And it's not bullshit "Denise Austin" type pandering to fat, lazy housewives and husbands. It's not bullshit "buy this gizmo for 29.99 and have a six pack in 4 quick hours!!". It doesn't pull punches and will tell you straight up what you need to do to get off your fat ass and get in shape. They have archived every on-line issue from the last 5 years and it's all free. They admit up front that yes, they own a supplement company, but they are honest about how it affects the mag.
They have a very active forum with many experienced bodybuilders (not fitness weenies) that live real lives and have real jobs. Many of them are also students. Every one of them was a newbie at some point, and remembers it, so they are very tolerant and very helpful.
They also have a large following of women who take a no-holds-barred approach to getting in shape. They believe that the same approach (in general) for having a good body applies to men and women. Like it or not, nutritional principles are universal.
*WARNING* - These guys are very open-minded, and might be considered offensive to those of you who are overly sensitive androgenized blobs that used to be men. They are not opposed to the use of steroids, when done it a rational, researched manner. They also like to talk about their penises a lot, so get used to it. Approach everything with an open mind and be willing to form YOUR OWN OPINIONS. You might just learn something.
> No, the best way to survive a tornado is not > to live in a trailer park... hurricane magnet.
To be completely fair, during Hurricane Hugo in 1989, there were no double-wide trailers lost in South Carolina. So, while single wide trailers are the bane of hurricane and tornado areas, a properly secured double-wide is pretty much just as safe as a standard home.
There are even more benefits to having an accountant than that. Do you sit around and learn about tax law regularly? I know I don't, but my account sure does. It's their job to learn all the nuances of keeping Uncle Sam from screwing you out of your money.
Think of it like this: they're paid to sit around and think shit up to save you money. They can also provide you advice on how to arrange your business and finances to get even less screwed next year.
If you don't believe that stealing mp3's is actually stealing or unethical, or any of the other things it has been called, consider this:
If you were to actually meet the people who have written this music, and tour the country playing just to make money to put food on their family's plates, would you fess up to doing this? Would you tell them: "No, I didn't buy I your CD. I downloaded it off Napster. I didn't even have to pay for it."
You've essentially just told them that you stole the money right out of their pockets. Most of these people are honest, hardworking musicians who want to make enough to play without having to get another job.
Would you stand behind your own actions?
I don't know exactly how it's done, but I do know that one of the networks did a bit on it on the nightly news last week. They said it costs $20,000 per game to have that line drawn. The costs come from having to "move in the laptops." If you ask me, someone is really getting taken to the cleaners on that one.
A great example of good business if I've ever seen it. Ordered the movie "Spaceballs" from Bigstar.com a couple of weeks ago. They said it would be back-ordered until the 28th. Others obviously have good taste as well. Got an email from them yesterday saying it was being shipped that day. We paid for UPS ground, but Bigstar paid the balance for UPS overnight or same day. It showed up yesterday afternoon. With service like that, the other companies have no excuse.
Also known as the State Lewd and Indecent Acts Law.

You can read more than you ever wanted to know in this article by John Berardi.
Like he says, it's never as simple as people would like to believe it is.
