I hate to be a me-too here, but you beat me to making a comment.

I see all these people going "Waa waa they won't let prisoners play D&D in prisoner." What the fuck? It's prison. It's punishment. You're crying about not being able to play a game? What if another story came along and said "Prisoners are banned from playing Grand Theft Auto because it encourages gangs." It doesn't matter the fucking justification, it's prison. Prison isn't supposed to be fun.

I believe I stated that since MGS4 was not constrained by the 360 hardware the developers were able to make a very good looking game. Another gorgeous game that was released only on the PS3 is Valkyria Chronicles, though some people may not appreciate the graphical style.

Also, Black & White 2 only came out about a month before the launch of the 360. So to say that it runs on hardware that should be worse than a consoles is pretty disingenuous.

  19. Re:Ubuntu and anime? on Ubuntu Reaching Out To 16,000 Anime Lovers · · Score: 2, Interesting

What it means is that the video playing problems of Ubuntu, and other *nix distros in general, is acting as a barrier to bringing in the one group that relies heavily on video players. These users utilize more complex video (even if they don't know it). By bringing them in and getting a good solid player that works for them, you would -in theory- improve the video player for all users.

What bothers me is that a lot of slashdotters hold an elitist attitude about linux and it trickles down into an elitist attitude about who uses it.

Stalingrad was one of Hitler's biggest mistakes. He committed too many resources to taking that city when it was of very little strategic importance. I am still convince Hitler wanted Stalingrad just to piss of Stalin and Stalin was just as determined not to let the city fall. Had the Germans swept through the city and moved on instead of trying to take it over 100% thus spending months there, Hitler would have been in a far better position to crush Moscow and force a Soviet surrender. Instead Hitler got bogged down there which allowed the Soviets to finally bring the east of the nation into the fight and push back the Germans.

Stalingrad is a prime example where hubris played a part in Germany's defeat. More than anything, Hitler's hubris defeated Germany.
