Why is everyone so uptight about increasing the resolution of camera/phones? I for one would love to have a decent quality camera phone. Why is everyone afraid of technological advancement? You do know that in a few years, a camera will fit into your shirt button, just like in the old spy movies of lore...
Why, its raining, as has been all week. You have a problem with that. Look on the bright side - its way to cold and wet for the criminals to even bother stepping outside...
You are forgetting one importing fact when talking about refresh rates of new TV's. They can show pictures either in a progressive mode (720p, 576p @25Hz or @30Hz), or double that interlaced (1080i @50Hz or @60Hz). Some TV's will even double that to @100Hz. But here is the kicker - they buffer the frame internally, do their preprocessing, and then display them (how else do they reconstruct the nonexistant frame). The real issue is LAG - try watching some HDTV and notice how the audio is a frame or two ahead of the picture - it's driving me nuts on my 34" HDTV. Go to any electronics store, and you'll see it on all HDTV's. Plasma's are almost as bad.
In gaming terms, that means that you're not looking at where you are, but where you were 2-3 frames ago. Add the lag to mouse/keyboard/gamepad, and suddenly you no longer can hit anything with a railgun, and become 0wn3d by pimple faced teenagers playing on a 17" monitor in their bedroom, even though your home theatre PC gig costs over $5000.
Trust me, I know:-( Used to be #1 or #2 in Battlefield 1942, but then went into the lounge room, have a wireless networking setup (extra lag), and now I'm #3- #4 playing the same game, all due to lag.
I still prefer Opera 7.x to Firebird. Opera seems faster, has more keyboard shortcuts which I use, seems to be more compliant (with the pages I visit), has better Java integration (for coorporate Intranet sites), seems to remember customized layouts better, looks better, etc. In my book, Opera 7.x is still #1 browser.
But for BeOS/Zeta (my #2 platform), I dont get Opera, so Firebird is my only option there. I can live with it, but I miss Opera.
Still compiling!#! You lucky sod, I've typed emerge press-release, and now I'm waiting for 2381 libraries to download, which are needed by a simple text reader. Should probably start compiling this time next week...
When I upgraded my GeForce3 to an ATI 9800, I went immediately from the middle of the pack player to a top 3 player in UT2004. This is what a great system will do for playability. Bitch all you want about eyecandy, but I'm a better shot at 1280x1024 then at 640x480.
When one set of indicators flash faster than the other set (left in your case), it means that you have a blown light bulb (she's dead, Jim) on the left side of the car. Rocket science, you see.
The main reason CIO's and managers dislike Linux is that there is no entity to wine them and dine them, slip money under the table so that they purchase Microsoft solutions (Windows, Office, Servers, Exchange etc). When Microsoft sales guys take out the managers to sporting events, cultural events, give them lots of freebies, ofcourse they'll accept a Microsoft solution - they've received kickbacks for making the purchasing decision.
When searching for a camcorder, you'll be given a choice between Digital Image Stabilisation (DIS) or Optical Image Stabilsation (OIS), with the optical being much more expensive. If you ever wish to shoot image from a moving source (a car, train etc), then definately go for optical image stabilsation. It uses mirrors to stabilise the image instead of software, and produces a less jerky image, especially when you zoom in. Canon's are pretty good in that respect.

Having a supermodel girlfriend is exciting for the first 4-6 months (with unbelievable bragging rights), but after that you also get tired of her shit, bugs in her head and personality flaws, and realise that they're just like everyone else (but with super looks). But then you're given crap for being overweight (she works with stick figures all day), not hunky enough (she works with male models), not seducive or witty enough (hey, everyone is trying to seduce her), etc. so you're always trying 100% of the time to keep her.
After months of this, you just want a normal witty girl who is fun to be with, looks be damned.
Well, if you were running BeOS, then you would be able to drop an Apple formatted hard drive into a PC running BeOS and have full read/write access to the hard drive. But who uses BeOS these days?
The general consensus of code reviews is - well, since it already works, ship it as-is, but do use the following advice for future products. Refactoring the new buzzword which we should be pushing.
You do realise that there is a section of the Slashdot crowd who have girlfriends / wives, and shag every second or 3rd night. Just because you're a loser, it doesn't mean everyone is.
It helps to have a filesystem designed with Database features in mind (ie. just like the BeOS file system). Emails are stored as normal files, with attributes like To, From, Title etc stored in the database. The same concept can be used for media files (MP3 attributes are stored into the database). When you wish to search your data, you can write queries, which are live on the BeOS, and have the results displayed in a directory window.
It's rather awkward to explain, but it works amazingly well in practice. Once you've tried it, you realise that there is no need to store data in directories, just make sure that the attributes are up-to-date, and finding any file is a query away. Rumour has it that Windows will adopt a similar system in Longhorn. Yeah, we BeOS users (all 20 of us:-) have been using this feature for years now...
Well if you actually bothered to read the article, you would have seen that thats exactly what they talk about. Jeez, why do I even bother visiting this site...
Are you nuts. With a name similar to Dirk Diggler, its probably the most sure-fire way of scoring with chicks. Ie. "Hi, I'm Dirk". "Dirk, as in Dirk Diggler?" "Funny you should say that. Allmy ex-girlfriends used to call me that."
No woman can resist the curiosity to find out if its true . . .

What you're talking about is Refactoring - please read the book from Martin Fowler, it will open your eyes.
Trust me, Aristocrat Technologies have plenty of good engineers who specialise in embedded systems (hence we haven't got a shortage of experienced developers). Programming slot machines is like programming game consoles, you need to squeeze as much from the hardware as possible. Although I work on the Australian side of Aristocrat, I've never had to deal with the TurboPower team. Best wishes to all TurboPower employees.

Clever :-) Pity most /.-ers will miss the reference.

YellowTab's Zeta (the successor to BeOS) has Centrino drivers which just work. Sometimes, closed source can be beneficial...

The $4000 difference didn't exactly disappear from the face of the Earth. It's already invested into the economy, so your whole example is a bullocks.
