Because from what I've heard is next year is the year of the PVR on the cable box. Companies like ncube ( http://www.ncube.com ) are exploding in growth because cable companies all over the country are demanding their services. Ncube delivers content through the wire to your set top box, which will also have PVR capability.
Perhaps the poster went to some rogue conference where all the meanie cable operators hang out? by 2004 most people will have PVR capability whether they get a cable set top box, or a satellite box, for no extra charges. The competition between sat and cable is really goes to fire up next year.
It should be the consumer's. Consumers that are taxed for removal makes more sense, since they are the ones throwing the waste out. It would make people think twice about buying and then removing their consumeables. "Returning to the manufacturer" makes little sense, they are unlikely to use the x year-old-design, so now you are seeing shipping PC's back and forth between distribution points just to avoid waste, but causing waste in other ways...
I'm a Windows2000 admin and had a Red Hat server up, (squid proxy, apache, and samba all working on a DELL 933 OEM that we wiped W2K off of all running within days of install, with only a tad bit of assistance from my bro. (apparently some of the default swuid directories needed permission modding to get working. Free Red hat saved us $2000+ in "IAS taxes" on our 100% windows network.
Permissions are persnickity on linux, but that's how it's supposed to be, and I like it.
Looking at wireless over the last two years is just mind boggling. There's no way to stay up to date on the latest security hacks and updates and firmware and make sure your mac addresses are in a database and this and that. It hardly seems worth the effort. Hell it's easier just bringing a spindle of cat6 and wiring up 1000bt or better around with you than deal with the networking mess.
In one firmware update last year, the "WAN UPDATE" setting was defaulted to yes. This would enable anyone to connect to a linksys router and update the configuration to their hearts content, or write a script to scan through an IP range and automate it.
I reported this to linksys, they quickly gave me another firmware update, but other users reported the same thing.
Now, is there a 10 Things IE Can Do That Mozilla Can Not such as run ActiveX properly if at all so one can go to most msn.com sponsored sites such as MSN Chat? Msn sites breach your privacy. ActiveX is an inherently insecure technology.
Or how about properly running the Java plugin so Yahoo! Chat doesn't crash after a few minutes. I'm not making this up. This happens everytime.

I bill a minimum of an hour if I'm so much as called off hours once for a question. My employer understands this. It's a tool, it's an emergency tool, they realize that to keep their employees, and to pay for the service, you have to compromise!
Take a thick black marker, and all along the edges, the inside, and the back of the disk, cover the disk in ink. This will uphold your right to "stay legal" and never copy a copyrighted work. The unexpected and delightful side effect is you cannot use the disk ever again, eiher.
Then take them to small claims court, where you have the upper hand:

If you jus open a case on a small matter, it's a huge investment for a company just to respond to the court proceedings. If 50,000 of us respond... Well, it's not worth their time or money now, is it?
To fight business you must think like business, and the bottom line will always win.
You will have the same problems on Linux. The problem is your process and design. Sounds like you do not know what you are doing for running a secure shop, nor do you have even the beginnings of an IDS installed, which can detect attacks without patching boxes.
There are W2K shops with thousands of servers that do not install patches, and just let signatures and patterns from IDS's get the exploits. This gives the famed uptimes, and saves a lot of time overall for hosting firms.
My point is that often I will have composed a significant amount of text elsewhere and am copying/pasting it in for posting. The automation of the system is a hindrance. They can limit spamming posts in other ways without having it effect my typing speed.

We don't block anything. We respect user's privacy rights, until OTHER signs of abuse show up.
As an admin that is the first course we take on suspicion of abuse. We don't have time to look through logs, because many legitamate uses of sites will contain illegitamate links, such as pop-up porm on a non-porn page. This way we directly taget the person and do not interfere with other's privacy as a result.
I doubt this could be done in a large corporate environment, but the users are happier overall that we trust them and aren't condecsending about what they can and cannot see.
Is the "World's Largest Casino" popup ad also XHTML compliant?
I know, I know, I should be using moz, but I'm lazy today and IE it is...

Amazing what about 10 seconds of searching, a "financial" link, and a browser, will provide you.

uh newsflash.
This is one of those laws where most people ignore it. Like Jaywalking, Speeding, and Sodomy!
It's difficult to enforce, due to the lack of similar laws in neighboring cities and townships.

this is standard first thing, along with alerter and telnet services, that most NT admins do when they build a new box.
You even got a score of 4! :)

So, wait it out for 2-3 months when other offerings at cheaper prices will abound.

uhhh that's great and all, but the review is for a different Seagate drive. Storagereview is correct, the drive is very quiet (for a SCSI)

They will use a license key that is generated on the first PC and can me easily transferred to the second PC.
ALthough, if past experience is any indication, you'll be stuck with one file and 20,000 that may or may not work.
Will be cracked in hours.
Any decent router or firewall (which you will likely need to purchase or lease anyway.) Will have this capability built in.
