  1. Here's an idea on Gonorrhea As the Next Superbug · · Score: 3, Insightful

Howsabout people stop having unprotected sex with people with gonorrhea? I realize that people may lie about not having it or something similar, but one's policy should be use a rubber unless one is very, very certain it's safe.

  2. Grad school on Best Way To Land Entry-Level Job? · · Score: 1

Why not apply to grad school? A master's degree plus the experience gained from doing even a little of your own research will look great in a few years.

  4. Too close to April on Nintendo Announces 3D Successor of Nintendo DS · · Score: 1

It's just too close to April for an announcement this weird. I'll believe it when I see more details.

  5. $5 maybe on EA To Charge For Game Demos · · Score: 1

I can see paying $5 for 3 - 5 hours of potentially buggier than usual game content. $10-$15 is just ridiculous. I'll wait until the full game, thank you.

  7. Re:Props to Pink Floyd... on EMI Cannot Unbundle Pink Floyd Songs · · Score: 2, Interesting

Plenty of musicians have made their fortunes and still have no artistic integrity. Credit where credit is due, and for a while now that's meant acknowledging when a musician has any artistic integrity at all.

  8. Props to Pink Floyd... on EMI Cannot Unbundle Pink Floyd Songs · · Score: 1

...for sticking to their guns. Artistic integrity isn't generally a concern of popular musicians.

  9. Re:I smell a lawsuit... on Accidental Wii Suicide · · Score: 1

Follow up question: When the hell is leaving a loaded weapon in reach of toddlers going to be against the law?

  10. I smell a lawsuit... on Accidental Wii Suicide · · Score: 1

If this gets a lot of attention, I can see Nintendo suing the parents. To my knowledge, there isn't a single Wii accessory that looks like a realistic gun. And aren't there laws about certain features toy guns need to have (bright orange plastic, et cetera) anyway?

Also, when is this idiot (the stepfather) going to be charged with manslaughter?

Why the child was inactive turns out to be a number of other reasons. depression, stress, bad house hold habits. and so on.

Or, you know, the child is just naturally more laid-back than his or her peers. It's not always something bad.

These sorts of bugs have a tendency to repeat themselves. I fully expect this to happen in 2014. After all, 2010 was the first even non-leap year since the PS3's release.

This is enforced with a legal and failing that literal gun to my head.

I've yet to hear of anyone having a gun actually held to his or her head over violating a EULA or otherwise doing things one isn't supposed to with proprietary software. You may want to reexamine your use of the word "literal."

  18. Shadow of the Colossus on The Grown-Up Video Game · · Score: 1

Fitting that SotC would be the first game he mentions. It was the first to pop into my head. Also, props to whoever tagged this story "Mother 3." Definitely a grown up game, and it's a damn shame it never officially left Japan.

  24. Strong Bad said it best on Studies Reveal Why Kids Get Bullied and Rejected · · Score: 1

Kids can be so cruel. (Just the first minute or so.)

This article doesn't reveal a whole lot of why kids get bullied in general, but it does at least help identify which kids are more likely to get bullied.

  25. Formal language as an argument deterrent on Students Failing Because of Poor Grammar · · Score: 1

I used to tutor as an undergrad. Mostly math, but occasionally I'd proofread English papers. A very large number of them were written the same way that the student would write a text message or e-mail to a friend. What's worse is that very few of them understood why they had gotten such bad grades. These people had somehow made it to college without realizing that English has rules that are followed in formal writing. You should not have graduated high school if you can't write a decently formal paper, barring disabilities and such.

I do realize that language is arbitrary so long as ideas can be communicated. However, as social animals I would argue that there is a need for formal language. We need a way to communicate with others in a way that is regarded as polite and civil. We need a way to express differing opinions without being insulting or starting arguments, and everyone should know how to communicate in this way.
