GP was talking about the iTunes play counts, not the Last.fm play counts. Every app/plugin I've tried (including the official Last.fm app) either scrobbles at 50% or allows the user to configure the percentage. Yet another reason to be free to use whichever media player one prefers...
In many US universities, over the past decade, there has been deliberate effort to integrate and encourage women and girls to get more involved in the 'hard' sciences, engineering, and math. However, instead of the proportion of women to men increasing, in Computer Science the opposite is actually true.
There's no real victory here. At least, not what we on Slashdot would call a victory. The judgement still stands. The only thing that's been revoked is the penalty of 2500 euro per day the ISP does not actively block illegal downloads on its network.
The judge explicitly asked Scarlet to keep looking for "a technical solution to suit the decision of the court".
The final decision (and our last chance at a real victory) is scheduled for October 2009.
Because addons.mozilla.org doesn't allow us to call our add-ons compatible with future versions of Firefox. We have to wait till Firefox releases a new version and then update the compatibility.
It kind of forces developers to check whether their add-ons are actually compatible with the new version. But not really.
They learnt that nobody in their (presumably not very scientific sample) has any idea of what KDE4 looks like...
It is implied in the video that is something they already knew.
It's a bit obvious, really. Most people have no idea what KDE is.
I'd be more interested in seeing the people's reaction when it's explained to them that what they were watching isn't Windows or Mac OS at all.

The company surpassed Pandora and others largely due to its unique datamining features
I would think that being available outside of the USA may have helped quite a bit as well.

Incredible stuff, he rides a bike and everything!
What isn't explained though is how he's playing video games?
Sorry to post so late, I can't believe I didn't think of this before.
You'll find some excellent freeware games over at http://www.reloaded.org/ and http://www.freehare.com./

Update: 12/16 21:11 GMT by KD : Microsoft will issue an emergency critical update for IE tomorrow.
If it's fixed in IE 7, why wouldn't it be in IE 8?

Here's a download site for the game + the English translation patch: http://www.cavestory.org/downloads_1.php
You could also throw in GTA(2), which are now freely available as Rockstar Classics: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/
"Reply to This" and "Parent" are actually four words. Maybe you meant to say "Two buttons;"?

Reverse psychology has worked!
I'm at a loss to think of any two-limbed complex organisms.

You're not very familiar with Sabam, are you? They've been acting "all American" for as long as I can remember.
I'm afraid you've been misinformed.

Try Urban Dicationary.
I'm sorry, but you try too hard.
I'm confused. When was Photo Tourism ever OSS?
Moreover, the Photo Tourism web site seems to suggest that it has been supported by Microsoft Research from the start.
I have tried it. The GP is right.
