    I'm talking about consumers not businesses.

    You represent 1% of the nation? I just checked my area and the MAX(FIOS) is 150d/35u which is STILL 6 times slower then what they claim they want for 4G wireless. And I can't even get FIOS, only Comcast which only offers 105d/10u which by a weird coincidence is about 10 times less then the 4G standard... so it seems maybe more likely that your just blowing smoke...

    True but the "standard" being pushed by some for 4g is just plain stupid.

    --------The formal standard for 4G status has not even been formally ratified, but speeds of 150mbps on the uplink and 1gbps on the downlink are likely milestones---

    So they want speeds 10 times WIRED speeds for wireless? LOL

    Magic solves everyone's problems. In this case the first layer (sediment filtration) is probably the only feasible layer on any scale. If the other two would even be possible the cost would grow exponentially, leaving you a pool costing more than a space shuttle.

    FYI, this really doesn't affect the diagnostics. 98%+ of it has to do with billing. Just because there was only one code for amputating a finger doesn't have anything to with the doctor doing his job. He does cuts it off describes what was done in the chart(or EMR) then after the person is discharged a person in a little room called a "coder" goes through the chart and enters the billing code(ICD-9 currently) in the bill that gets sent off to the insurance company.

    You don't work in the medical field do you? ICD codes are built into a lot of medical applications. For a famous slash dot car analogy, this is like trying to convert a U.S. car manufacturing plant over to use all metric.

    That's because PvP is extremely cheap to develop for compared to PvE. Its the same old story that has affected most industries. Take for example the classic "outfitter store" cycle. A new outfitter store opens with great camping, climbing, and general outdoor stuff. In one corner is a couple racks of clothes. After a few years some "genius" account looks and the profit margins, sees that the mark up on clothes is huge compared to the other stuff. So in go more clothes racks. After a couple more years you have clothes store with a "outfitter" name. People stop going and profits plummet... The store closes and management is scratching its head trying to figure out what went wrong....

    Sounds like a OE problem to me, I've had a Incredible for over a year and never had problems like that... Tell your friend to stop blaming his phone for his drunk shenanigans? (BTW there's even an app in the google market to stop him from drunk dialing search for "drunkblocker")

    Time frame matters, in WP's days NOTHING could format large amounts of text properly. Reveal-codes at least gave you a way to "fix" things properly. Word you sat for 20 minutes fighting with it until you got lucky or gave up.

    Watch the movie "Gattaca". Social, religious, and moral objections aside I find it a very plausible "future" for human control of our genome. Whether we are "smart" enough as a race to control our own evolution(with a favorable outcome at least) is another discussion.

    Stupid people do stupid things. How many people do you think died back when they crossed those areas in a wagon? or in cars back in the 40-50's? People are no more stupid today then they were "back then" because of gadgets. It just makes "good" (i.e. sells papers) to print sensationalistic crap like that.

    How many people died when the US was being settled? If you read books and accounts from that era, it was common for more knowledgeable people in the trading outposts and such to make fun of people heading up into the wilderness unprepared. This isn't "new" and is isn't because of "gadgets" stupid people get themselves killed all the time.

    If I remember correctly they (the US Army) also switched out several key components with cheaper versions. i.e. I'm pretty sure the original design had a stainless steel receiver which switched to plain steel.

    That said, claiming any mechanical system never needs maintenance is just stupid. especially one taken into dirty,wet environments.

    The best definition of "Faith" that I've ever heard is "To be fully persuaded." As in, if you'd bet *everything* on a belief being right, then you have *faith* in that belief.

    In that sense, "science" is a matter of faith. What is supposed to be different is /why/ and /how/ one becomes "fully persuaded".

    you don't understand Science. If you're ever, "To be fully persuaded.", you're no longer in the world of Science and you've entered the world of Religion. The two are mutually exclusive. Just because you trust the theory that gravitational acceleration on Earth = 9.82 m/s2 DOES NOT mean you have faith. You can at anytime go PROVE this theory to yourself or someone else.

    Everyone is missing the point.

    People who do not have the expertise and experience in any given area of science can only trust that those who do are providing accurate and reliable information. They could rig the experiments, fudge the numbers, etc. and your average person would not be in a position to know it. All they can know is that this/these guys are experts so what they say must be true.

    That is pretty much the same thing as Faith.

    No you've missed the point and so did the article.

    FAITH CAN'T BE PROVEN. period and of discussion. Scientific experiments CAN be proven OR dis-proven, whether by yourself or someone else is completely irrelevant.

    While, I know it popular to Flame MS. If Nokia isn't just taking MS's money, and is planning really throw everything they have into it. This "may" just save MS(mobile) and Nokia. Nokia has a history finding and growing niches and finding what customers want. As long as they don't just play follow the leader to what Android and Iphone do, AND (this is a big if) MS listens to them when the need want changes to WP7. I think may at least be able to compete. I don't see them taking over but they may put up a decent showing.
