I think you have swallowed the nightmare global warming disaster scenario. If the world is heating up by a couple of degrees its not going to mean the end of humanity. And if its a natural process, then what is there to 'fix'? What is the optimal temperature for the environment, and how do we know if the fix in the long run is going to end up worse than if we just leave it alone.
Humans already have the ability to survive in the harshest climates, from the eskimo's to desert bedouin, a changing climate just means we will need to adapt to it which we can, not try to fix it, and it won't break us so much that we need to flee to leave the planet.
I agree with you to a point, there is a changing climate, and it is having negative effects, but what if climate change is a natural process and can't be ameliorated?
And if climate change is not man made, i think there is an enormous amount of hubris to think that we can change it.
The reason is that there is one Attorney General in South Australia who is still under the misguided impression that only children play games and should be protected. He is the only person blocking the change in legislation that would allow a R18 rating to be introduced for gaming. It has been pointed out to him how wrong his position is, then he falls back to the 'If we allow games of this nature in, then the kids will get their hands on them' argument.
However, he has recently agreed to open up the debate to allowing a R18 rating (IIRC) through public submissions into an enquiry, but going by his track record, he won't look at the actual results from that and just keep his head in the sand.
Selectively picking sports to support your argument, does not a good argument make. Your right that its not ALL sports, but plenty of other mainstream sports have variable scoring if you lose the US centric focus. Off the top of my head...
Rugby Union. Try +5 points, covert the try by kicking it through the uprights +2, penalty (same as conversion but not preceded by a try) +3, field goal +3. Interestingly its the only game that i know of in my life time where they have changed the scoring of it. A try was lifted from 4 to 5 points in 1992.
Rugby League, Try +4 points, conversion and penalty +2, field goal +1.
AFL, 6 points for a goal, 1 point for a 'behind'.
Gealic Football also has different scoring depending on where the ball goes.
Also, the list you give there is only one way to score. Soccer, kick a goal, baseball, cross the home plate, tennis, don't hit the ball out, hockey, ball in the goal and so on. If there is more than one way to score in a given game, there there generally is a variable scoring system which depends on the difficulty of whats required to do it..
True, but the same problem holds for the imperial units, is an area 2 ft^2 the same as 2 square feet?
So now instead of 1 problem, there are 2 problems!
Isn't this the plot of Human Readable by Cory Doctorow? Human Readable
But i want it nowwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!11!
And the Eternal September begins again.
Have you had a look at OmniGraphSketcher as a quick way to sketch graphs?
On a related note, any form of seafood in the microwave is a huge no no.
Thats what they first thought about the zombies.
Tho Ruby programmers still consider themselves superior to everyone else.
He even won an Ig Noble for the research.
The exact same thought crossed my mind. The worse thing is that i chuckled when I saw it.
Not you buddy!
There is a difference there.
Tho im sure if the pregnancy has been fine and there are no complications, then a midwife could probably perform the same job for significantly less.
1) Better tools... improve EPIC. Perl lacks a good IDE
Have you seen Padre?. A Perl IDE written in Perl.
The funny thing is that we are talking about Nine here. Those times are accurate.

Maybe if you used a decent measuring, say, ohhh, like metric, you wouldn't need to worry about problems like that.
It probably came up in the same way that we get confused between the US and Canada.
Bah, thats a light weight vacancy rate. Down here in Australian capital cities, the rental vacancy rate is less than 1%.
