I don't believe that Hollywood has improved the state of culture of the US over the last 100 years. Any entertainment produced by a certain group of people is going to be propaganda for that culture's view of the word and if I were viewing the US from outside... there isn't really any chance I'd want my people exposed to unlimited downward spiral of debasement and misanthropy that is US entertainment.
I attempted this over the weekend. The first season didn't age all that well... the production quality just isn't what I was braced for when I started the show. I'm sure as it progresses that will improve.
This is ultimate result of abandoning things lofty things like beauty and truth as foundations of society and replacing it with what... consumerism? Capitalism? I've spent my whole life as a hard-core republican but lately, the old free market this and libertarian that mantras just leave me feeling empty and dissatisfied.
If there is one western organization (well other than the UK) I fear abusing AI and directing it in an oppressive manner against its citizens it is the EU. I trust we haven't forgotten about Article 11 and Article 13 recently in the news.
There is no way that you can maintain even an modicum of appearance of a first world country with our current demographics without either huge prison populations or routine executions for a broad range of felony offenses.
I have a friend that had one and has had major issues with his testosterone ever since. He won't take TRT so essentially is a different person these days, unable to make decisions and kind of mewling in his affect. It's really depressing because he used to be such a cool guy.. I can't prove it was the vasectomy but I've seen a few studies correlating it with lower testosterone even in procedures without complications. No thanks.
I'd say their big competition will be Disney streaming and Netflix and... Netflix despite their strong position I see in more of a longterm downward trend from here. Amazon should be a contender and things may change but for now just those two primarily. If they start bundling the TV service free with 3 months when purchasing hardware, seems like it could go well for them.
Yeah pretty much. They're a mess. They have huge floods and tons of waterfall but haven't been working to retain any of it (no new dams / reservoirs) so it drained out into the oceans. Yeah drought free after flooding but no ability to plan for the future.
It's actually the exact opposite. The input cost on beef is the feedlots but you can get beef to slaughter weight on pasture... I even manage it with finicky sickly holstein calves discarded from dairies and they are some of the worst breeds to raise on pasture. Sheep and decent cattle breeds can be run in ways that are positive for the environment. At least soil and water retention.
I'm not sure why they aren't collecting data on this in the background anyway... not sure why any company would rely on self reporting for this type of stuff these days.
I'm not a comic book fan but every post I've read from that community complaining about Captain Marvel has been from fans that liked Wonder Woman quite a bit. This response from you is more of a rhetorical device than anything else. A great deal of the protest for this movie took the place of people trying to pump up Alita and seeing it multiple times... i've not seen either myself.
I think we've had a ton of strong female heroines in movies for quite a while and the same people being accused of insecurity and sexism toward Captain Marvel nerded out over those... Think everything from Alien movies to Underworld to Wonder Woman. I don't think it's a fair or accurate characterization of the response from the fan community and the title of this slashdot article as well as the article it cites strikes me as trolling more than anything else.

What I find most irritating about the feminist movies coming out of Hollywood and an area maybe where both sides can find some common ground is this approach of making females strong by making them more masculine. I think this is flawed and damaging. One way to view the message of this "feminist" movie seems to be that to be "feminine" is to be weak. -Then there is the whole Mary Sue angle of attack but I'd rather not get into that.
There are explicit references to past sexism in the movie but I am not sure where the "comically-over-the-top sexist men"...
I've not seen the movie but recall in the trailer the myriad instances of men yelling versions of "you'll never amount to anything" type comments in her flashback.
The population loves to pretend they are super-heroes, while gobbling up extra large coke with extra margarine popcorn.
As someone from the US...that's a fair statement. I guess it is a combination of secularization creating a vacuum that has to be filled and all we can come up with at the moment is this this type of fluff and the breakdown of the traditional milestones and roles for young men. The result is 30 something adolescents obsessed with escapist fantasy.... I don't think any of us are 100% immune to it, we're all on a spectrum of infantilization these days.
I was under the impression that London was seeing record levels of violence. Are you saying that while it hasn't improved and in fact has gotten worse, youth services are working and the problem would be even worse without them? Seems like a lot of overhead necessary to accommodate certain groups new to the UK...
The reason we have the 2nd highest homicide rate in the first world (I'm assuming you're correct about that) has to do with demographics. We have a historically first world European society that prior to the 70s was 90% European heritage but is rapidly being replaced. Ignore wealth and control simply by percentage of each peoples and I think the reasons for this will be very clear.
That's a nice thought but it isn't the case in practice. There are many feedlots that feed all their animals CTC Crumbles for instance and I can tell you that inject able antibiotics are routinely used as a preventative and not to treat anything... you just need a vet signoff but when your business is feedlot beef, that is just paperwork. This is in the states. God knows what it is like in China.
They seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. Perhaps they can reimburse us for the weapons grade uranium they stole from the US and the 400 million in damages trying to clean the site up.
