That is a slight misconception. The similar movies result from script writers shopping their scripts to different studios. Every once in a while a producer will think "That's a great idea, but why pay this dude hundreds of thousands of dollars when I can have my own staff hack write a similar story for peanuts?"
It's interesting to note that according to this first-hand source, President Carter started the first serious look into the technology espionage program. Nixon and Ford's administration largely ignored it.
Columbus actually secured a pretty sizable percentage of the income from the New World for him and his descendants as part of his deal with the crown of Spain. Needless to say he and they didn't see a dime. Once he had set up the first colony, he didn't have any value.
The same would happen to Lunar Industries Inc. They would build the first factory at great expense to the stockholders, and then Megacorp Inc would move in, "steal" the technology, and take over by sheer size.
You wouldn't even need tethers, since there's little gravity out there. You could push the stuff off of the top of the earth elevator and have it drift over to the moon elevator. However, there is little incentive to build a moon elevator, since the escape velocity is so low.
Job is my favorite Heinlein book. Very interesting on the philosophical level. And for those posters who wonder what Heinlein and Adams are talking about in heaven now, you probably haven't read this book!:D
It was never about the engine though, was it? It was the stories/quests, the great 2D artwork, and all the hard work that went into those. Black Isle will be missed. Now there's only BioWare left.
It's an outrage. Every day, criminals use a network known as "the phone system" to commit crimes such as blackmail, theft, fraud, and planning to do other even worse crimes. The owners of this "phone system" should be held liable!
I can't believe you are buying that guy's bogus claims. He sent a letter to the UN, and having received no reply he sees that as tacit approval. Try sending a letter to the UN claiming that the whole world belongs to you, and see if you get a reply. He has absolutely zero legal legs to stand on.

Doesn't it bother you that they are basically forcing you to break the law if you want to take reasonable precautions?
Yea, and long live the urban legends!

That's the EverQuest rate, so every online game service in the world must have the same rate. Duh!
If you look at the oldest maps from Europe, they actually are inverted, i.e. south is at the top of the map.

The states sued the tobacco companies for the health care costs the states had incurred as an effect of smoking. Carry on.
?! NASA's annual budget is 17 billion AFAIK. Are you saying that 6.8 billion a year is generated from their royalties?

Tell them that Thomas (the programmer) sent you!

Which says more about the human brain than about Mars, probably.
The moon isn't in geosynchronous position.
OTOH, most of Pakistan's inhabited region is within 280 km of India.
I believe the Xbox games actually cache some stuff on the harddrive.

I think New World went into bankruptcy not too long ago and M&M was sold off as an asset for around a million dollars.

Let me paraphrase; never attribute to a conspiracy what can adequately be explained by stupidity.
If we are not supposed to eat humans, then why are they made out of meat? Just wondering...

I think you may have redefined the word "faith" to suit your conclusions.
They're firing back with bullets made of air.
What they're not saying is that it's the new "Microsoft L++", which doesn't run any applications except The Gimp. Especially not Apache, no sir.
