Every Xbox sold, whether it is used for gaming or not, increases Microsofts perceived market share in the console market. They're using those numbers to convince developers to make games for their console. I think that they'd love for you to buy their units and make them into toasters, or whatever.

  2. Re:The problem is not developers or publishers... on Can Independent Game Developers Survive? · · Score: 1

I agree with your goals, but you have to realize that a publisher is going to want to give you the exact same bad deal even if you've managed to finance the development without them.

You also have to realize that most published games don't sell very well. Publishers manage by turning out a large number of games a year, and counting on a few of them to be hits. A third party funding the development would also need to fund a large number of projects, and make sure they get enough of the revenues to cover the flops (or make sure sure they only pick winners?).

The funny thing is that Waterworld actually was pretty enjoyable. But on the other hand, I guess my taste in movies isn't the same as that of Joe Sixpack. Titanic had the same type of negative hype, and see where that one went.

"Rational"/"common-sense" as conservatives often say, is in my opinion in fact populism.

And the posters on here labeling CNN as left-wing seem more than a bit deluded. I've had to stop watching them, because whenever they bring on pundits, they get one centrist to advocate the leftist view, and at least one, often a whole gaggle, of hard-core conservatives, some which I consider lunatic fringe. CNN seems hell-bent on out-Foxing Fox, which have long had the same policies. If you're gonna bring on Falwell et al, you better bring on someone equally leftist if you want real (not fake) balance.
