    I saved a quote by Jim Miller from the site it used to point to:

    hmm. "have agreed"? Verbal? Written? A spit and handshake?

    I havn't read AUP, so I can't compare him to Stevens.

    Get paid to create information, not own it. Once it is distributed you cannot control it anymore.
    Copyright law is hindering the world, not helping.

    but you are right.. it won't happen unless there is a major social change.

    Good points.. just thought I would add that the value of information is artificially created by copyright law. Without the government, music wouldn't have intrinsic value once distributed.

    People want stuff because it has value. If it didn't have value, people wouldn't want it.

    I disagree. J.S. Bach's music doesn't have intrinsic value anymore, yet people still want to listen to it.

    I don't see anything there about Physical property. Seems to me intelectual property can be considered theft.

    From what I've gathered, the phrase "Intelectual Property" isn't acurate. It's used by copyright/patent/trademark owners to make it sound like they own property. Legally, information is treated differently than property. though.. IANAL.

    not going to trust Microsoft. Especially when
    they become backed into a corner by gnu/linux.

    I think we need to mirror any apps developed with mono. Mirrored in a "safe" language.

    They must be _insane_ to trust Microsoft.

    It looks like they can even "embrace and extend" your modifications without giving their modifications back.
    Prediction: Microsoft will release their stable kernel under this Shared Source license within the next two years. What do they have to lose?

    Except for the person paying for the creation. They're paying money for something that everyone else gets for free.

    I don't think it will be just one person. To keep from going too far off topic;
    imagine a group of Universities (hundreds) funding the creation of copylefted text books.

    The only reason it's "the way it is", is because the government says so.
    suggestion: People make money for creating information, not "owning" it.
    If there is a need for something, people will pay to have it created.
    Once created, everyone benefits.

    But it makes sense too - it gives content creators a reason to CREATE content!

    IMO, people should be paid for creating information, not owning information.

    If the universities want better text books, then they should get together and pay someone to create those textbooks.
    See? Copyright isn't necessary.
