  1. Demand? on Tesla Reports Second-Consecutive Profit; CFO Retires Again · · Score: 1

How is the demand side looking for Tesla? Out of curiosity, I went to the order page to see how long the wait is for a Model 3. The wait is.. none? What happened to the wait list of orders? Is this going to be an issue going forward, or do they see enough on demand orders to absorb their ramped up production?

  2. "I wrote where I summarized six strange facts about 'Oumuamua." Fact #5 is that it looks JUST like a Mon Calamari star cruiser.

  3. That created a paradox: How could a passcode be treated differently to a finger or face, when any of the three could be used to unlock a device and expose a user’s private life?

Paradox? That's an asinine statement. They are treated differently BECAUSE they are in fact different.

A word/phrase passcode is something that you have to say. Between that and the possibility that you don't know or don't remember the password, it made perfect sense to deny jailing people for not giving out their password.

You fingerprint and face are just... there. Cops take mug shots. Cops take fingerprints. Hell, cops can take DNA samples. Because they are just there and don't require you to incriminate yourself. I usually praise our court system for protecting our rights and privacy from overreach, but this one seems to make no logical sense to me.

  4. The problem is his harasser probably doesn't have as much money as Grindr. He cares more about getting a bunch of money in a lawsuit than actually, you know, going after the problem. He can sue Grindr into oblivion, but if he doesn't actually go after his harasser, then the problem will just pop up on another platform.

  5. and "Broadcast TV" fees were mandated by the government and not controlled by Comcast itself. T

I still don't know how they have gotten away with this one for so long. A cable TV company... whose sole purpose is to broadcast TV... having a 'broadcast TV fee' on top of it's existing fee is like a gas station charging an extra 'petroleum pumping fee'.

So, how are they better if they have to slash benefits as well? Plus, good luck slashing them once they are in place. Can you say tax increase and service decrease? That is the only LEGAL way to fulfill the pension obligations in many states.

My favorite quote about Oregon public pensions was an economist that declared decades ago, "The only way Oregon is getting out of this mess is if they are hit by a giant gold asteroid from the planet Tiffanys."

  10. Turns out that hating white males, which is a larger group than all the gays + trans + blacks combined, won't win you elections.

If you want to see a clear example of how much the democrats hate white men, all you had to do was go to Hillary's campaign website. If you looked near the bottom, you saw links for:

    Women for Hillary

    African Americans for Hillary

    Latinos for Hillary

    Asian Americans for Hillary

    Millennials for Hillary

I have no idea what the links went to, or what they were for. But the intent was clear. White men and whatever problems they have weren't worth the time or effort to even put a link on a website up for.

I hate this idea that we need to keep cramming more people into this world because older people want to have someone to take care of them. We have enough people already, housing prices are going through the roof, water supplies are getting scarcer by the day. Let's not create more of a population problem so that grandma and grampa will have a nice retirement.

Because there is no reason to. Since it's just a few days to travel back home, why would you try to setup a permanent community? The difference with Mars is that travel back and forth is so long and costly, you would HAVE to setup a permanent colony if you wanted to do any long term exploration of Mars.

because a consensual relationship (and at no point was there even the slightest hint that the relationship was anything less than consensual) is simply not a legitimate reason to investigate a sitting POTUS

That was NOT the reason for the investigation or questioning. He was questioned in relation to a claim of sexual harassment, and they were trying to establish that he engaged in workplace affairs. It had nothing to do with being consensual or him being married and cheating on his wife.

  18. the broadcast TV surcharge will rise to $9.95 from $8.85 a month

This the single dumbest thing, and is proof positive that the industry 'regulators' do no such thing. Having a 'broadcast TV surcharge' for cable... who's entire purpose is to broadcast TV over their cables... is like having a 'flour surcharge' at a cake store. It's just another way for cable companies to advertise $29.99/mo... but it's only for 12 months... plus fees... plus taxes... plus surcharges... plus cable box rental. So after the 12th month, it's actually double or maybe triple the cost they advertise.

  21. the value of a home in CA is mostly based on the price of the land

Not based on the property assessments I've received for my homes over the years. The structure value is several times the land value on the homes I've had in the North Bay Area. I also had a home near Lake Tahoe, where they were about equal (200k vs. 190k). Since most homes are in higher price areas (Bay area, So Cal, etc.), I'd be shocked if most homes have a higher land assessment than structure assessment.

If you're low income but your neighborhood is being scouted by a developer your house may well not be low value at all.

If you moved into a home that was low value when you purchased it, your property value assessment stays at that low value (can only increase by 2% a year), so it doesn't matter how many developers are scouting your neighborhood. It has zero affect on your current assessment.

  22. Pass a new law that gives a deep tax break for low-income residents only, and makes that tax break not limited to a specific parcel.

No. They ALREADY have a deep tax break. If you are low-income, you more than likely have a low-value home, and you pay lower taxes.

Oooooh-kay. Not sure why this has devolved into 'asshole' territory already. Anyways, it's not just how much land there is, but how much usable land, and land where people actually want to live. Everybody likes living on the coasts, but fewer people like living in the middle, flat cold parts of the country. Also, you need more than just land to live. Water, food, utilities, transit, jobs, etc.

What's happening is you liberals won't issue building permits because you want to see deer fuck in their natural habitat.

Then what's to stop non-liberal states/cities from building like crazy to keep house prices low?

  24. It's all rent control and low income housing which do nothing to solve our massive housing shortage and in some ways exacerbates the problem.

Amen. I'm always amazed every time rent control is brought up as some type of 'solution' to a housing shortage. Number of new housing units created by rent control? Zero. Absolutely NO new housing gets created. And in fact, it TAKES housing units off the market, because it just makes an incentive for people to never move from their rent controlled unit, even when it would make sense...

There is also the opposite, BETTER solution: Stop encouraging more people to be born and immigrating here. You can't keep building more homes forever. Even if you can, there are lots of other resources that are becoming scares. Water. Transportation (just try driving around almost any area of California now days). I know that older people want more younger people so that their Social Security and pension ponzi schemes will be solvent, but they are just sticking us (and future generations) with the bill.
