It's not technically behind. NZ is a day ahead (more or less). So it's already happened here, we're just waiting for the rest of the world to catch up. By the time you read this, it will already be tomorrow in NZ and we'll have moved onto something just as bizarre and misunderstood by lawmakers.
BTW, the for those of you in the past the numbers were 11, 19, 27, 32, 41, 47 (39). Enjoy your new winnings!
/.'s karma system and stack's rep. points both have real web uses. It would be cool to see a standardization of this idea and have it follow you across the net. Granted it could be abused, gamed, misused and just worthless to some. But no system is 100% useful. I could easily see where a standardized web karma could be very useful.
I'm still trying to figure out if this would be make for a utopian or dystopian internet.
I thought carbon credits would have someone parked on the poles with a couple of ice making machines (perhaps like they use in a hotel but not as loud) and they'd be scooping fresh ice out to keep it topped off... why is this not happening? Have we been lied to? Where did all that carbon credit money go to? Just when I thought for sure I could sit in my apt and do something really fucking meaningful from a distance to help save all those future generations by buying offset credit every time I got on WOW and played for two days... this just has destroyed my entire weekend and trust in humanity.
Practices like this are plus good. Benefits to our society are double plus good. Plus handling of language can pare it down to the 6k essential words, all else are plus minus and should be removed.
The average English speaker knows roughly 35k words in their lifetime. However they only use 1200 (average) in any given week. With just over a million words the nuances of our language may already be lost in common everyday speech. Lowest common denominator prevails and testing like this will mitigate people shooting for dead center to ensure perfect scores.
I dunno, I'm not so sure I'd call those diseases tragic. I find the rest of the world's 16 hr waking days terribly boring and pity their lack of creativity and productivity. Granted some people don't cope well with BP and Schizophrenia and they make the news (so to speak) but many people manage well and use it to their advantage.
I do hope that only sleeping 3.5 hrs a day (on average) for my entire life won't have the detrimental payback of Alzheimer's. But, then again, there is a price to pay for everything. I enjoy the longer days. The quiet when you sleep and I can work in peace is wonderful. I've never seen any ill effects of low sleep. I only feel fatigued or tired if I get less than 2 hrs. Anything over 5 hrs and I feel like shit for the next day (EG: listless, slower motor response time, impaired cognition).
For a country that bitches a fair amount about global warming and the responsibilities We (humans et al) have to our home... Tonga seems to want to make up lost time and really help break the camel's back.
This is why I don't see the sense in having kids. To hell with responsibility!
Really, it's impossible to believe? Fed. Reserve is owned by a single family. ISBN system is owned by a single family. There are many "regulatory" institutions that are completely owned by a family or organization. Net Sol is just following suit.
If you really want to restore faith in your customers how about completely unlocking their kindles and let them decide what they do and do not delete? Or perhaps that's too much heart for Bezos.
I doubt he'd have a single "heartfelt" thing to say if he wasn't dragged over the hot coals of the net.
Most people will never understand and basic exploits like this will always work against them. At what point is it the browser's (and app support staff) responsibility to protect the ignorant? The simple fix for this and many things similar is to not cache, don't keep a history, lock your browser down. If you're too stupid to do that... it's kind of your own fault.
Does a car manufacturer have a responsibility to make you drive safe? They make the car and if you're too stupid to learn how to use it properly you'll be weeded out.
Let's go back to the old NES days. The only thing that ever made people do was eat mushrooms and beat the shit outta turtles. Those were the days, young prepubescent CGI girls could safely wander the streets.
So when I receive a twit from my bank about someone else's account will a judge order my account disabled?
I cannot wait to see how many twitter IP addresses start originating from Nigeria.

This is the same govt. that put a guy in jail on child pornography charges for having a Simpson's parody porno on his computer.
Ignorance and arrogance seem to always walk hand in hand.

Burn your house to the ground, rape your woman, eat your babies and salt the earth.
It would be the only proactive way to be sure their mistake was covered up and erased.
You could do better... if you were born in June.

Thank god something living is willing to move back into Michigan. There is hope to save this state!

The tree is just keeping in step with it's environment.
After the 2nd season, I found it boring. And honestly NASA, tapes? Use a dvr if you're going to record Lost.
Few will get this, sadly. damn funny though.
Great minds and all that. =)
The moment they react to: "Get your stinkin' paws off me you damn dirty ape." Then we need to panic.
The monkeys or the babies?
Put your copyright in,
take your copyright out,
put your copyright in,
and you shake it all about
you do the Cory bullshit speak
and you twist some words around,
that's what it's all about.

Sorry, the moment I read "Cory Doctorow" I just get a dull hum in my head and lose not only focus but interest.
Zz.. . . . .

It because you have Asperger's.
