I'm pretty sure that Amazon just eats the loss as part of an effort to gain greater customer satisfaction, as I've been in a similar situation prior (except I was on the losing end because I dealt directly with the vendor who would not take the return vs. Amazon whose customers reported they were able to get a refund on return). I wish that more companies would follow Amazon's model in this regard (and many others), but Amazon has the upper hand because they make *so much* that they can afford losses like this.
Why would Google acquire anyone with a website ( http://agnilux.com/ ) that currently states "This Web site is coming soon." Are we supposed to be capitalizing the word Web in website, and why can't it be one word? This acquisition is causing us to reassess fundamental assumptions about spelling and capitalization of common terms! Aha- now I realize why they acquired them.
"Let's work with Gizmodo to make a big deal out of this new iPhone. This is top secret stuff, and people are going to salivate over it like nobody's business." Maybe.
Mozilla/FF should focus on making it the best place to develop plugins and making the browser fast and stable. I don't care about anything else really.
Why are we using non-mathematical language to describe numbers? Just use powers of ten, etc. and be done with it! I like base 2 better, though. Base 10 is a flight-of-fancy.;)
Libertarianism is about the minimum government and rules required for people to live freely. A Libertarian would have the tendency would be towards letting the cable companies do whatever they want in terms of bandwidth caps, etc. as the market would sort itself out. Usually I lean Libertarian (actually probably closer to Constitution party), and I am all for getting government out of the way of business, reducing the complexity of our tax code, and letting migrants do whatever the heck they want as long as it doesn't hurt us. However, I think Libertarians need to "wake up" and smell the coffee on the issue of net neutrality. I think most moderate Libertarians would be in favor of basic regulation of utilities, such as water and power. There are certain necessities that affect our livelihoods in a way that if there is any government at all, it should be involved in just enough to make sure that we don't live in a wasteland. Internet connectivity is really a utility that is "coming into being" as more products and services rely on it. It is becoming something people require to do there day to day business. The spirit of freedom of government sought by Libertarians is embodied in a free internet. As such, even as a Libertarian is concerned, internet access should be classified as a utility and treated as such.
This isn't about keeping government out of industry's way, this is about freedom of internet use, which companies should not be allowed to control, and neither should the government. I think we need a constitutional amendment personally. Internet usage should be treated as a utility, not entertainment, and usage should not and cannot be controlled by telecom/cable/satellite companies anymore.
Privacy is a misguided concept introduced at the same time as when cavemen tried to hide behind trees whilst relieving themselves. It is public data ergo it is public data. Case solved.
It also has an optional carrying case and jack for headphones so you never have to listen to an un-altered version of "Believe" by Cher ever again. I blame that song for all the trouble that Auto-Tune caused, but I can't stop listening to the unaltered version!
Many here may not remember, but years ago Muzak was played on elevators. Since then people associated Muzak with having to wait to get to your floor...
It is just like anything else. You practice, you get feedback, and you keep trying. That method should apply to getting better at both high-level and task-level estimation for any task (not just development). The methods that help you produce better estimates will develop based on experience and feedback. Historical reporting and adequate (but quick) data collection are key. While there are tools out there to help you determine where people are spending time, nothing substitutes for people estimating their work or the work of their team. Unfortunately, estimation is not valued in all environments, and can turn some developers off.
clever technical cleavering.
But they help make such great mini MAME cabinets! And they are useful as head racquets.
This reads to me like "download CMSMS and try it out" rather than a book review.
Freedom Fries! look it up if you don't believe me. It is filed under F in a card catalog in the Library of Congress in the special Tesla section.
Just a guess, but typically that's how things roll in politics...

Step 1: Setup multiple dummy corporations to buy up all of the world's floppy disks. Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit!
Now if carriers would just lower the cost of their data plans, maybe we could afford to try it out!
Government should be there to give us freedom, not to be our mother.
...oh to hell with it.

This Lunchable has real ham in it, not the processed kind offered by Microsoft.

Drop IE6 support but not IE7 support if your company (like most) are short on resources these days.
